‘Counting On’ Stars Jessa & Ben Seewald Have Announced Their Second Son’s Name

“We cooked up a good name for this baby!”

From the people who brought you Spurgeon…here comes Henry Wilberforce!

Jessa and Ben Seewald have announced that they have chosen the name Henry Wilberforce for their second son, who was born last week. The Counting On stars waited nearly seven days to come up with and announce the name they had chosen for their baby.

In a video message posted on Monday, Jessa and Ben revealed why they chose the unique moniker for their son.

That face you make when you learn your brother got the name ‘Henry’ while you got saddled with ‘Spurgeon’…

“William Wilberforce was a British politician in the 1700s and he was very instrumental in abolishing the slave trade in the British empire, as well as doing a lot of other great things,” Ben explained. “He’s a real hero of ours. He’s someone who really walked with God.”

It was Jessa who chose the name Henry, because it was cute and after Matthew Henry, whom Ben says was a “great man of God” who wrote a series of commentaries on the Bible.

Jessa and Ben have said that they will continue to name their children after great Christian leaders. Their first son, Spurgeon, was named after Christian preacher Charles Spurgeon.

Jessa recently talked to People about Baby Henry’s birth last week. Jessa had the baby at home, with her sister Jill Dillard helping her. Jessa’s mother Michelle and sister Jana arrived right before Jessa pushed out Henry. The entire birth went “so fast” that Jessa said her mom and sister nearly missed the whole thing.

Of course, in true Duggar style, Jessa is planning on having a huge brood.

‘We definitely want a lot of kids.’ she told People. “It will be a little while since we just had a baby, but adopting and fostering to adopt is very much in our hearts.”

Next up in the stirrups is Jessa’s older sister, Jill, who is pregnant with her second baby. She’s due to give birth to a baby boy in July.

  1. Weird names aside, they both seem like good parents, especially for being so young. Hopefully they will continue to let their kids get a taste of the real world and not be as religiously strict as their parents were.

  2. These two idiots will probably call him Wilberforce. Henry just seems too normal after you’ve already named one child Spurgeon.

  3. Ugh! Their names aren’t important, they can always be changed.

Poor kids, born at into a cult of ignorance, arrogance, and mysoginst.

  4. I feel so bad for Spurgeon because his brother has a nice normal first name and he gets saddled with a name that sounds like something stuck to the bottom of your shoe. I also don’t believe for a minute that they “couldn’t decide” on a name. They had nine whole months to decide, they waited so long to keep everyone interested. The Duggars may be idiots but they are savvy at working their fans and publicity.

  5. Google Henry Wilberforce. You will find it hilarious given their opinion on us Catholics. Forgot to google the whole name, guys?

  6. At least they decided to put the ugly name in the middle this time. I wish they would’ve named their first kid Elliot Spurgeon. Elliot and Henry sound great together. Spurgeon and Henry? Not so much.
I can’t wait for Jill to have her second child, little Jerusalem Dillard.

  7. I have issues with these two. Jill and Derick seem to be in love and seem to have a good marriage but Jessa seems to tolerate Ben. They don’t seem to have any chemistry and Jinger and Jeremy have tons. And she seems desperate to stay in the spotlight. Plus, you’re never going to adopt! You won’t stop having babies long enough. Henry is cute but stop with the unique names. Poor Spurgeon.

  8. Pretty sure domestic adoptions/foster agencies prefer to not place children in a home with infants/young toddlers. Unless they’re desperate

  9. Eye rolling!!!! Seriously you name your first kid Spurgeon and then give your second kid a normal name like Henry. Wilberforce? Really? They have never said anything about African American rights. Do they even know any African Americans besides that Christian rapper? Funny they start up a friendship with him and then all of a sudden Ben is all I m white but try to act “stereotypical” black? I guarantee their next kid (which will be soon) will be named after some phase they are going through. Oh and too I am waiting for the “We are going to adopt, after we have this other baby” broken record to start.

    1. When Spurgeon was born, I was shocked that they didn’t name him Elliot Spurgeon… but then to name your second kid Henry.. that makes Spurgeon worse!
