‘Dance Moms’ Star Abby Lee Miller Reflects on One-Year Cancer Journey: “Maybe with a Miracle Someday I’ll Walk”

It’s been one year since Abby Lee Miller‘s life was turned completely upside down by an emergency surgery and cancer diagnosis. On Wednesday, the Dance Moms star opened up about her brutal battle with Burkitt Lymphoma and showed off her spinal cord surgery scar in an emotional Instagram post.

“One year ago today ~ I underwent emergency surgery for an infection in my spine,” Abby wrote as the caption of a photo showing her back scar. “This mass/tumor choking my spinal cord turned out to be Burkitt Lymphoma.

“I endured ten rounds of chemo therapy (each lasting 6 days with 4/ 24hr bags pumping poison into my body ending with a spinal tap in 3 spots, plus another shot of Chemo into my tailbone area up the spinal cord around my brain cavity) Ten times! Another spine surgery was needed & I have one more still to go.”

Another spine surgery was needed & I have one more still to go. I struggled thru months of physical therapy to learn to sit up again, to crawl and maybe with a miracle someday I’ll walk. Why didn’t the ER Doctors on duty do their jobs? I came in twice with the same symptoms? Why didn’t somebody listen to me, the patient? I finally found the right team that’s why I lived to tell my story, I have a lot to say! Thank you to all wonderful top notch professionals who continue to help me heal. For those who missed it, misdiagnosed me, and the so called Federal “Doctor” who took me off medication cold turkey and the other ER “Doctor Hollywood” who told me to go home and take it easy for 10 days – STOP practicing! Please 🙏🏻

As The Ashley previously reported, Abby Lee had just been released from prison and was staying at a halfway house when she was rushed to the hospital in April 2018. She had become temporarily paralyzed and doctors thought she had an infection in her spine, only to later find out that it was Burkitt Lymphoma.

Abby has chronicled her cancer journey on her social media. She is currently wheelchair-bound, but has hope that she will be able to walk again.

“I struggled thru months of physical therapy to learn to sit up again, to crawl and maybe with a miracle someday I’ll walk,” she wrote.

She also blasted the doctors who discounted her complaints of pain early on, and those who misdiagnosed her.

“Why didn’t the ER Doctors on duty do their jobs?” she wrote. “I came in twice with the same symptoms? Why didn’t somebody listen to me, the patient? I finally found the right team that’s why I lived to tell my story, I have a lot to say! Thank you to all wonderful top notch professionals who continue to help me heal.

“For those who missed it, misdiagnosed me, and the so called Federal ‘Doctor’ who took me off medication cold turkey and the other ER ‘Doctor Hollywood’ who told me to go home and take it easy for 10 days – STOP practicing! Please.”

Abby has not let her cancer battle stop her from returning to reality TV. Later this year, ‘Dance Moms’ will return to the air, featuring Abby and a whole new team of dancers.

‘Dance Moms’ premieres June 4 on Lifetime.

  1. I am excited to see Abby come back. Hopefully she will continue to do well and make progress. I would love to see her new show be a great success and see her attain some real happiness – especially after the way those mothers and original ungrateful dancers that she helped train and make into dancers and “somebody’s” turn on Abby and desert her in her time if need. Karma…I would absolutely love to see Abby doing well and finding the happiness she needs and should have while those ungrateful brats sit on the sidelines with their moms.
