Trigger Warning: This story contains mentions of suicide.
On Sunday’s episode of Sister Wives, viewers watched as members of the Brown family reacted to the death of Garrison Brown– son of Kody and ex-wife Janelle Brown– with Kody particularly expressing remorse about the status of his and Garrison’s relationship, which had been strained for years at the time of Garrison’s passing.
As fans of ‘Sister Wives’ know, Garrison died by suicide March 5, 2024, at the age of 25.
Shortly after Garrison’s death, it was revealed that he and Kody were still estranged at the time of his passing. On the latest episode of ‘Sister Wives,’ Kody appeared to struggle with this fact, admitting that he believed he had more time with his son, to whom he didn’t get to say goodbye.
“It wasn’t supposed to be this way, you know what I’m saying?” Kody said to his only remaining wife Robyn Brown on Sunday’s episode. “It’s heartbreaking, Robyn. I didn’t get a chance to really just make things right, just not being able to say goodbye.
“I just don’t know what to do with his death,” Kody continued. “I’ve got to do something different because I could have had more time with him. I thought there would be more time.”
As ‘Sister Wives’ fans may remember, Kody’s relationships with many members of his family– both wives and children– became disjointed amid the COVID-19 pandemic, during which he and Robyn enforced much-stricter protocols than others in the Brown family. However, Kody said on Sunday’s episode that the “frustration” he had during the pandemic suddenly felt “so unimportant” in the wake of Garrison’s death.
“I’m just sad,” Kody said. “How do I do the rest of my life with every holiday and every birthday?”
Kody went on to tell Robyn that people had advised him after Garrison’s death to not “get caught up in the what-if train,” though he said he was doing just that, as it was “part of the process” for him.
“What if I had called him?” Kody wondered during the episode. “What if I had been in touch more? What if we’d have gone and done more? It still makes me sad. It still makes me wonder if something could have been done. It’s the what-ifs, the what could have been.”
As The Ashley previously told you, Kody made similar statements in his first (and only) interview after Garrison’s death, telling People in September that he couldn’t “reconcile” that Garrison was no longer here and that he regretted putting off trying to improve things between the two of them.
“ … We could have been talking more,” Kody told the outlet. “We could have done so much more … It was kind of like, ‘We’ve got forever.’
“It was more like it was a convenience of time that I felt like I had,” he continued. “Retrospectively, there would’ve been more of a regular catching up and touching base.”
Kody went on to say that if he had it to do over, he would’ve taken “advantage of the time” he had with his son.
“I want to go out to diner [with Garrison] again. I want to sit down. I want to have a beer,” Kody said. “I want him to try and make me laugh because he was kind of that way.
“The only regret is just, gosh, I would just do that more often,” he continued. “The only regret is that you didn’t do something. You didn’t take more time.”
Kody also expressed how “strange” it was to have one of your children pass away, claiming the grief he felt was different than anything he had felt before.
“ … And it is different in the idea that it’s irreconcilable– the future that we missed with him,” he added.

All the “what ifs” in the world cannot change what has happened. A very troubled young man took his own life and nothing can change that. Robyn is so self centered and her ability to not cry always comes through. Kody has a lot of work to do to reconcile with his remaining children and whether he makes the choice to do it is on him and him only. Life can be very short. Kody is not one to listen so going to a counselor more than likely would not work. I have a feeling his marriage to Robyn will eventually fall apart. She may think she “speaks Kody” but in reality all she speaks is Robyn.
He has learned nothing. He still puts Robyn’s kids on a pedestal and abandons his own. Maddie has mentioned that he doesn’t even see his grandkids. I will never forget Garrison and Gabe crying on the show begging him to spend time with them and not shut them out. All he could do was get mad and say “If you don’t accept my WIFE Robyn then you don’t respect me.”
Then that same season he said the most vile and hateful things about Garrison and Gabe specifically. I can’t remember word for word what he said but he had a look of hate in his eyes. He said if they were going to cut him off he didn’t care and he would cut them off first”. Then of course saying that Jenelle needed to kick Gabe and Garrison out. Garrison saved up money and bought his own condo. Do you think Kody ever called and told him that he was proud that his 25 year old son was a homeowner? I highly doubt it.
And Gabe.💔My heart hurts so much for him being the one that found Garrison.
I totally agree. Pig-headed describes Kody well. He acts like a petulant child. Robyn doesn’t give a F about any of the kids save her own spawn. Talking about Garrison and Gabriel so disrespectfully on TV is probably just the tip of the iceberg here. I get why Maddie has cut her sperm donor out of her life. Kody only wants to be worshipped, and doesn’t GAF about those who don’t.
“That was lovely Kody. So, that must mean you’ve taken the last year to reach out and apologize to all of your estranged children for making them feel like complete afterthoughts next to Robyn’s children, right?”
Kody: 👀
Not sure if anyone noticed, but on the episode he said, “I had to stay home and console my kids..” yeah, his kids with Robyn who didn’t even go to the funeral.. THOSE kids… not the ones who grew up with Garrison and actually loved him. His priorities are beyond messed up. This must be his justification for not going with Gabe when he went to pick Kody up after the discovery and Kody didn’t go with him. Deplorable.
Every single one of them shed tears, except for the queen of tears herself. That was strange. Maybe Kody will again watch this episode and make it right. He needs to as the adult. Dad needs to make it right with all his children.
I’d be curious to know who is down voting the comments. They’re all true. Does someone actually like Kody and Robyn??
Probably side work at My Sister Wives Closet.
lol. They do run a good business. I looked the other day and it’s an absolute cheese fest. I can’t believe Robyn conned them to fork over their hard earned money.
I really want to Robyn to model the jewelry on the dolls. 🤞🏼
@Steven— OMG that would be epic! -The Ashley
Does she not watch the show and realize that the shots are close up enough that it is abundantly clear she doesn’t actually cry? She starts fake-wiping those corners of her eyes before she even scrunches up her face for the fake cry.
Yes, I had the same reaction. It was very weird, especially considering the stupid things she usually cries about. But her husband’s son takes his own life and the well is dry? Very odd!
His ego during COVID ripped his family apart. And the irony is he lost time with some of the children he’ll never get back and he caught COVID from the nanny. He tried to bully Janelle into kicking the Kody rule breaking children out of her home. In the interceding years after lockdown, he never tried to mend the rifts with his estranged children until this tragedy. So yeah, he has to live with the guilt and the consequences of his actions.
Actually, it was Brianna or Aurora! They didn’t actually get it from the nanny (although the nanny had it). Several months later, one of Robyn’s daughters brought it home. Oh the irony!
And instead of taking this as his sign to reach out to his kids and take accountability for his attitude to them and their moms, he remains estranged from most of his adult kids (plus Truly). He learned nothing.
As usual Kody has to make it all about himself.
