Another day, another Kody Brown parenting faux pas.
The Sister Wives star and “father” of 18 is being called out by his daughter Mykelti for allegedly making the trek from Arizona to North Carolina to deliver an on-camera apology to his ex-wife Janelle and failing to visit– or even contact– any of his children who live in the state during his trip.
In a clip from one of Mykelti and her husband Tony Padron’s recent Patreon Lives, Mykelti spoke about the recent ‘Sister Wives’ episode where Kody traveled to North Carolina, revealing to fans that her father made zero effort to contact her while on the first stop of his ex-wife apology tour.
“Yeah, I didn’t get a call, didn’t get a text, didn’t get an email, Tony didn’t get anything [either],” Mykelti said.
Despite Kody and Janelle’s on-camera conversation taking place in the city where Janelle (and her daughter Maddie and Maddie’s family) currently lives, Mykelti insisted to fans that she “would’ve made the effort”– and the 3-hour-plus drive– to see her father while he was in North Carolina had she actually known that he was coming to town.
“If he was at Maddie’s house, we would’ve made the effort,” Mykelti said, to which Tony added, “He could’ve stayed at our house.”
“Yeah, we have a room … ,” Mykelti continued.
Mykelti also claimed on Patreon that Kody didn’t inform any of his children who live in North Carolina of his visit.
As fans of ‘Sister Wives’ know, four of Kody’s 18 children currently live in the Tar Heel State– Maddie, Mykelti, Paedon and Savanah. (While viewers saw Janelle talking to Maddie on the show about Kody’s planned visit to North Carolina, it’s unclear if– or when– she or Maddie revealed Kody’s travel plans to the others.)
Kody is estranged from Mykelti and nearly all of his other children with ex-wives Meri, Janelle and Christine. For years, Mykelti– whose mother is Christine– was one of only a few of Kody’s kids who continued to have a relationship with him and his wife Robyn; however, Mykelti revealed last year that her relationship with Kody and Robyn had soured.
The news of Kody dissing his North Carolina kids comes a month after Mykelti shared in an interview that Kody has reached out to her multiple times recently, but that she refuses to reconcile with him until he attempts to make up with his other kids too, referring to her and her siblings as “a package deal.”
“ … you’ve got to treat my whole family nice; you’ve got to treat my kids nice,” Mykelti said on the Pop Psych YouTube show. “You’ve got to talk to all of us. You can’t just have me. You have to have all of us … I want him to be nice to Ysabel. I want him to be nice to Savanah. I want him to talk to Truly and hang out with her and go visit her.”
Kody also remains estranged from Maddie, who shared publicly last year that she stopped speaking to her father because he “doesn’t have respect for boundaries” and failed to be a consistent presence in her children’s lives.
On an episode of ‘Sister Wives’ that aired earlier this season, Maddie became emotional while opening up about not having her father in her life anymore. Prior to Kody arriving in North Carolina to see Janelle this season, Maddie surprisingly told her mom that she believed “there could be forgiveness” between herself and Kody, though Janelle told viewers she doubted Kody would actually take the steps necessary to make it happen.
Despite her mom’s comment, Maddie still insisted that she was “open to reconciliation and forgiveness and closure” with her father, but only if Kody showed “a pattern of consistency.”

Personally, if I were Jenelle and Christine, I would have told him to shove his fake apology. He absolutely would never have apologized if it were for any other reason than that they were filming. I was particularly surprised that Jenelle seemed to be receptive to his line of bullshit. I don’t know the particulars of Garrison committing suicide. I’m sure there was a multitude of reasons. But I firmly believe that the way Kody treated Garrison, abandoned him, and blatantly chose Robyn over him was a big one. I think Janelle probably knows that deep down. We also know that Robyn did something at his funeral so horrible that the older kids aren’t offering forgiveness, nor should they.
Of course not. It was never some genuine reconnective thing.
It was a work trip…a TLC paycheck requirement. The kids don’t want to be on camera; they have been extremely direct about it. Janelle was contractually bound.
His apologies were bizarre and not apologies in any real way. Just a lot of fake preening.
I’d have bet a ton of money if the kids weren’t closed off to filming, they’d have gotten a call, because Kody knows people would tune in for that, he might even be able to use it to leverage a bigger payday or contract extension.
I genuinely believe if he thought he could sweet-talk them into filming it, they’d have gotten calls. I wish I didn’t. I really do. But, that’s where we are.
Totally agree. Kody thinks about Kody first, then Robyn occasionally. He’s a selfish, narcissistic, poor excuse of a man and father. He would never take accountability in a genuine way to see the harm he’s caused. It’s all for show and a pay cheque. He’s going to do all he can to drag it out because he knows no one likes him and once SW is gone, he’s gonna be hurting for cash. Guns won’t cut it when Robyn won’t work.
