EXCLUSIVE! “16 and Pregnant” Star Whitney Purvis Pleads Not Guilty to Aggravated Involuntary Murder & 6 Other Felony Charges

“Can’t we just forget about all this?”

The criminal case against 16 and Pregnant Season 1 star Whitney Purvis continues.

As The Ashley previously told you, Whitney— who gave birth to son Weston Jr. during the very first season of the show in 2009— is currently facing a whopping seven felony charges, including a charge of aggravated involuntary manslaughter. The charges stem from the 2025 death of her friend whom prosecutors say Whitney sold a street drug containing fentanyl to that resulted in his death.

The Ashley can exclusively reveal that Whitney has been appointed a public defender and recently entered a plea of not guilty to all charges. At the same court hearing late last month, Whitney also waived her formal arraignment.

In addition to the aggravated involuntary manslaughter charge, Whitney is facing four felony charges of “Illegal Use of a Communication Facility” (all with different offense dates, which indicates that Whitney allegedly committed that crime multiple times). She is also being charged with “Sale of Fentanyl” and “Possession of Fentanyl with Intent to Distribute,” which are both felony-level charges.

(Whitney has been accused of distributing Tranq— a drug that contains a combination of fentanyl and xylazine— to her friend John Mark Harris, who died in February 2025 after taking the drug. It is the alleged sale on February 16 that prosecutors say caused John Mark Harris’ death on February 17.)

In court paperwork filed January 29, Whitney and her public defender are demanding that they be given a list of witnesses whose testimony helped bring the charges against her. She is also asking for a copy of any statement given by witnesses against her, as well as any witness statement in support of her “not guilty” plea. She also demands a copy of any search warrant (and accompanying affidavit) that could affect her guilt or innocence.

Whitney’s attorney also submitted a list of items he’s demanding for the case, including the contact information of all witnesses; copies of all tangible evidence for the case, and the right to perform independent testing and analysis on all physical evidence being used for the case, among other things.

Whitney’s next court date is scheduled for April 1.
