“My Strange Addiction” Season 7 Star Jayden Gives Update on Her Glue-Eating Habit: “Please Learn from Me & My Story”

“Just say no to glue!”

My Strange Addiction Season 7 star Jayden is giving fans an update on where she is today, after appearing on the show for being addicted to eating hot glue sticks.

Jayden’s episode of the show— which recently came back to TLC after a 10-year hiatus— aired a few weeks ago. On the show, she admitted to eating over 8,000 sticks a year (which is enough to fill over 240 wine bottles), snacking in between meals and all throughout the day. The Illinois college student described feeling calm while chewing on the glue stick, which she then swallows after it gets “soft and malleable” because it would otherwise be “a waste.”

“Some people eat gum, but for me, it’s the hot glue,” she explained.

On Friday, TLC has posted an update on Jayden and her addiction, in which she announced that she has completely stopped eating glue, but does “chew bottlecaps [and] wood, but [she’s] not swallowing anything.”

“The reason why I stopped was mostly because of the doctor visit,” she explained, referencing a scene in the show where she consulted a doctor about the long-term effects of her glue eating. (This doctor told Jayden that eating glue can cause fertility problems, stomach cancer, and neurological problems on top of the indigestible plastic coating of the stick staying in her system forever.)

Um…same.

“I don’t want to be full of plastic. I don’t want to be full of glue,” she stated. “That sounds scary.”

In her update video, Jayden also offered some advice to those who eat hot glue or have other types of chewing fixations.

“I just want to tell them, ‘Please stop!’” she emphasized. “Please learn from me and my story. Like, there are health risks to it and if I stopped, so can you.”

In her episode, Jayden recalled that her addiction started when she was around three years old when she would chew on things like “bottlecaps, Tupperware lids, [and] packaging on kids’ toys,” which was of no alarm to her mother, who thought it was just normal toddler chewing.

As you do…

However, the addiction progressed from there. Jayden explained that as she got older and got into crafting, she transitioned from simple household plastics to hot glue, which she continued with from age 13 to now.

“My Strange Addiction” airs on Wednesdays on TLC.
