Chelsea Houska Says Growing Up on ‘Teen Mom 2’ & “Having Nothing Off-Limits” Has Made Her Value Her Privacy: “I Rarely Leave South Dakota”

“I’ve traded the leopard print for cowhide, and airing out my dirty laundry publicly for privacy!”

Chelsea Houska spent her formative teenage years in front of MTV cameras, but the former Teen Mom 2 star says her life is drastically different today— by choice.

In a new interview with The Local Moms Network, Chelsea stated that exposing every personal aspect of her life when she was a teenager has made her crave a much-more private life from the days where she was from publicly pining over her baby daddy Adam Lind to talking about the time she peed out her IUD.

“After living my teenage years so publicly and really just having nothing off limits, you learn to value your privacy,” Chelsea said.

Chelsea would probably like to erase this whole era from everyone’s memory— from Adam’s grubby mitt on her to whatever is going on with her hair here…

Chelsea jumped the sinking ship left ‘Teen Mom 2’ in 2020, but has gone on to star on HGTV‘s Down Home Fab. She has stated that she was OK returning to TV with her family because ‘Down Home Fab’ doesn’t dig into her personal life or the lives of her kids. However, because she’s on TV, Chelsea said people have the wrong impression of who she really is.

“I feel like people assume I’m outgoing and can easily be on camera or a stage, but that is not the case!” she said. “Anything outside of my little safe bubble is scary for me—I live such a low-key life. I have a small friend group, and I rarely leave South Dakota. We just love our little safe space here in the middle of nowhere.”

Chelsea also opened up about the regrets she has about her teen years.

“I wish I would’ve worked on loving myself more,” she said. “I was always looking for that outside thing or person to make me feel valued and never focused on it myself.”

“I can assume I’m the thing/person you’re talking about?”

Chelsea said that she hopes that her kids– Aubree (the 16-year-old daughter she shares with Adam), eight-year-old Watson, seven-year-old Layne and four-year-old Walker— focus on being content with themselves more than she did growing up.

“I work on that a lot with my kids: making sure they feel confident and comfortable with who they are,” she said.

“I pray that none of my kids ever falls hard for a deadbeat loser with a skullhawk!”

“I love that Aubree seems so confident in who she is and her style as a teenager! She’s so cool,” she added.

In March, Chelsea talked about how different Aubree is from the girl she herself was at 16 years old.

“Just thinking back to how I was when I was her age, I just remember being like, I always wanted to follow the crowd, or I wanted to be someone I wasn’t…She’s just so sure of herself and confident in her sense of style and who she is,” Chelsea said at the time. “I think that is just so cool about her.”

“I’d like to believe that little Audrina got her sick sense of style from me!”

According to Chelsea, growing up on TV has made viewers feel very close to her.

“I love that people feel like they know me! They truly have been with me for all my stages of life,” she said. “They’ve seen me down in the dumps, they’ve seen my vulnerable moments and watched as I pulled myself out of them. Everyone is so kind and supportive when I meet them.”

We can assume that means fans don’t bring up THIS monstrosity of Teen Mom Hairdos Past when they meet Chelsea…

  1. I remember how pathetic she was in the beginning, clinging to that dirtbag that consistently treated her like shit. She really grew a lot! Good for her.

  2. I am really proud of her. I thought she was seriously doomed forever to go after Adam and she seemed very impressionable as a teen/young adult so I am glad she ended up solid. Fun fact: My childhood neighbor and friend, Jessica, dated Adam maybe, a decade ago? LOL. She has now grown up a lot too and probably cringes thinking about it too. Anyway- I am really happy Chelsea grew up to do what she loves, have more kids with an actual good man (I love Cole!) and encourages her kids to be themselves.

  3. It’s almost as if she’s trying to look like Alanis Morissette. Google an picture of each for comparison. They look like twins and have for years. The only difference is Chelsea and her fake orange tan vs Alanis pale skin

  4. I think Chelsea is doing great after leaving Teen mom. But come on, she likes her privacy?!! She literally has a show on HGTV

  5. Aw she’s really done the work inside and out! Could you imagine having video footage of your dumb teen antics out there forever?!?!? Not me, I was such an A hole.
