‘Sister Wives’ Season 20 Episode 6 Recap: Improbable Brother Husbands & An Interested Sister Wife

Me, mentally preparing for another episode of this nonsense…

Grab your indoor cowboy hat and pull up a rocking chair– it’s time for another episode of Sister Wives!

This episode kicks off at Kody and Robyn’s Mountain Mansion, where Robyn is unboxing crystal glasses to place into one of the seven china hutches located inside of the Brown’s “opulent” abode. As Robyn continues unwrapping her beloved belongings, Kody barrels into the dining room to let his shy wife know that someone has expressed interest in purchasing some– or maybe all– of the Coyote Pass parcels, despite the land not even being on the market yet.

While this conversation is obviously some sort of reenactment, Robyn does her best to feign surprise before reminding viewers that “letting go” of Coyote Pass is rilly really hard for her, as it means also letting go of everything “we had built as a family.”

Before confirming to Robyn that he’s yet to receive an official offer on any of the Coyote Pass parcels, Kody explains that his doll-hoarding better half is having a difficult time letting go of what could have been because she’s “a very special person who feels very deeply.” (Allegedly.) Kody claims that, even though selling the property would help him and Robyn “manage” the purchase of the Mountain Mansion they’ve already begun filling with clutter, it’s still a “struggle” for Robyn to let go.

“Oh, and don’t even get me STARTED on the whole rocking chair thing!”

Kody tells Robyn that he plans to speak with Meri and Janelle over a video call about the Coyote Pass deal, claiming he’s pretty certain they’re going to get an offer on some (or all) of the lots soon. Robyn says that while her former sister wives are concerned that Kody will somehow screw them over in the Coyote Pass deal, she knows that “on a good day,” Kody is more than willing to give them what is rightfully theirs.

Meri and Janelle better hope like hell that Kody has more “good days” than he has hair on his head…

Kody tells viewers that his biggest concern is that Meri and Janelle will get what they’re entitled to and then come back asking for more. He says that once his exes get their 25 percent and are satisfied, he hopes they will “just leave [him] alone.”

Next we head to Salt Lake City, where Christine and David are doing their best to enjoy a date night together, despite being contractually obligated to spend most of said date discussing a certain frizzy-haired former spouse. Before diving into a producer-fed conversation, Christine notes how much she enjoys monogamy and the “simpleness” of her and David’s life. David agrees, before going on to ask Christine how their life compares to life in a plural marriage. Christine reveals to her husband that it’s “embarrassing” to look back at how much her life revolved around Kody, while admitting that, as a plural wife, she was someone who “kept score” in her marriage.

When Kody’s other ex-wives are asked about marital score keeping, Meri says it’s something she believes “any human being” would do, noting that she did it herself at times. Meanwhile, Janelle says she was always too busy or too exhausted to worry about what Kody was doing, which may very well be the nicest way we’ve ever heard someone say, “I didn’t give a single f**k.”

Out of sight, out of mind, out of f**ks to give.

Back at dinner, Christine and David talk about the lack of jealously in their marriage, with both insisting that they’re perfectly fine hearing the other talk about their former spouse– Christine with Kody and David with his late wife Margaret. Despite this, David notes that Christine has mistakenly called him Kody before, though Christine says David has slipped and called her Margaret a time or two as well.

“Just stab me in the kidney next time, I’m sure that would hurt less.”

David goes on to ask Christine how things are going between her and her former sister wives; Christine says things with Janelle are “great,” however, things with Robyn are basically non-existent, as she feels like she can’t trust her ex-husband’s only remaining wife. Christine explains that when she was still married to Kody, she would confide in Robyn about certain things regarding her marriage, only for Robyn to then run her mouth to Kody about them. Christine says Kody would “get mad” about these things and then she would “get in trouble,” all for venting to someone she mistakenly believed she could trust.

When asked about these claims, Kody maintains that Robyn was always “advocating” for her fellow sister wives, while Robyn argues that she only took this information to Kody in an effort to help Kody and Christine’s relationship– something she now admits she should’ve stayed out of.

“Let that be a lesson to everyone: snitches get stitches subjected to a life of monogamy with Kody Brown.”

Christine adds that Robyn and Meri “messed with” her, which is why she cut off communication with them. Although Meri– who’s asked about the situation by producers– doesn’t explain what exactly happened between her and Christine, Christine tells David that Meri knows what she did and that she refuses to have a relationship with Meri, Robyn or anyone who will “do harm” to her or the people she loves. Still, Christine says she’d love to have a relationship with Robyn’s children one day– assuming Robyn and Kody ever allow The Chosen Five to leave the Mountain Mansion compound unattended.

Christine then mentions the idea of putting together an annual Brown family reunion at some point, which the entire family would be invited to attend. She says she and Janelle would definitely show up and eventually, “maybe everybody” would decide to do the same. When asked about this idea, Robyn says there’s “a lot of toxicity” and “crap talk” in the family, so getting everyone together would probably be “a bad idea.”

“Where would we even find a place big enough to host everyone? I’d offer the Mountain Mansion, but then Ari wouldn’t have enough space to do her indoor cartwheels.”

Speaking of bad ideas, Christine later tells David that she would love if he and Kody could become friends one day, an idea that surprisingly doesn’t send David running out of the restaurant. Instead, David says he and Kody could “be cool” with one another and possibly even hang out– presumably once or twice on-camera for the sake of ratings and ratings alone. Kody tells viewers that because David is living with his and Christine’s daughter Truley– one of the multiple children with whom Kody has a nearly (or completely) non-existent relationship– he “should know David” and he should also have the right to “discriminate” him.

If that discrimination is allowed to go both ways, we suggest that David start with Kody’s hairline.

Christine and David (kind of) joke about the idea of David and Kody getting together and bro-ing out, with Christine claiming that Kody is “a good man” and “a good person” who would “have a blast” with David. David tells Christine that if he does hang out with Kody, it doesn’t mean he “condones” any of Kody’s actions, to which Christine assures him they don’t have to be “brother husbands.”

“…as least not THIS season, anyway.”

Back in Flagstaff, Kody sits down in one of the (many) poorly decorated Mountain Mansion rooms to do a video chat with Meri and Janelle about the “good news” he has regarding their Coyote Pass property. Before kicking off the business discussion, Kody tries– and fails miserably– to make small talk with his exes.

“So…you want a tour of the new house that both of you inadvertently helped purchase?”

After his painful pleasantries are rebuffed, Kody tells viewers he doesn’t understand why the mere sight of his face isn’t whipping Meri and Janelle into a verbal frenzy, especially after he and Meri shared that unintentionally bump and grind in the back of a moving truck when she relocated to Parowan in 2023.

Meri acknowledges that Kody is trying to act as if everything is great between them, before explaining that she set a boundary after Kody decided to publicly talk trash her and her friends.

Once he realizes that Meri isn’t taking the bait, Kody redirects his efforts to Janelle by asking if she’s heard any good jokes lately. When Janelle tells Kody that she hasn’t, as she’s been living in North Carolina with children– children who happen to be HIS grandchildren– Kody notes that he also lives with children and according to him, the Tender Comedy Troupe are a hoot and a half.

“Move over, Nichols and May!”

Kody proceeds to tell Meri and Janelle about the person who’s potentially interested in purchasing all four lots of Coyote Pass. Kody claims that after rejecting the first offer because it was too low, the person came back and offered the full asking price on the market value of two of the lots– one owned by him and Robyn and the other owned by Meri and Janelle. While all parties agree that this is good news, Meri tells viewers she’s annoyed that it took receiving an offer on the property for Kody to want to separate the parcels and Janelle says she’s “withholding any kind of emotional commitment or judgment” until the deal is actually done.

Kody admits to viewers that he’s bothered that his ex-wives are “expecting” him to clean up, sell and swap out the deeds on the property, while they’ve allegedly done absolutely nothing to help. However, Janelle says she not only offered to pay someone to clean up the lot, she also offered to have her lawyer draw up paperwork for the deed swap, but claims she’s legally unable to do much of anything else. Meri also notes that, because she isn’t on all of the parcels either, she “cannot legally make any changes” to Coyote Pass.

Before wrapping up the world’s most awkward video chat, Kody tells Janelle and Meri that by the time the official offer comes in, it could be for ALL of the Coyote Pass parcels, though nothing is certain. In the meantime, Janelle and Meri agree to get all of their paperwork together in order to proceed with the deed swap.

Kody, forever reminding the world how many wives he used to have.

Next we head to Parowan, where Meri and her perpetual sidekick Jenn are putting together a desk for Meri’s new home office. As the dynamically dull duo get their HGTV on, Meri fills Jenn in on the latest Coyote Pass development and Jenn immediately jumps into investigator mode by grilling Meri on how the money will be handled once the property sells– specifically, if Meri’s money will ever go through Kody’s hands. Meri tells her BFF that the money shouldn’t go through Kody’s hands, but at this point, there’s “potential for anything when it comes to him.”

Meri says she almost feels as though Kody has been wearing her and Janelle down over this whole Coyote Pass situation, potentially in the hope that they’d just give up and go along with whatever he proposed. Meri assures Jenn that she can’t be worn down easily, noting that she stayed married to Kody for a decade despite him trying relentlessly to wear her down.

“It’s gonna take a lot more than an awkward video call and some dawdling to break me!”

When Jenn points out that Meri may have to return to Flagstaff to sign some paperwork when Coyote Pass sells, Meri predicts that seeing Kody and Robyn will be “weird.” Rather than suggesting that Meri get her e-sign on from Parowan, Jenn encourages her BFF to lean into the weird by licking Kody’s face when he offers her a handshake and then whispering into Robyn’s ear, “I still want this.”

“That is sir-iously NOT funny!”

Over in North Carolina, Janelle talks to her daughter Maddie about the Coyote Pass situation and reveals that since the video call from hell, there’s been a signed offer submitted on the land, which means she and the others are one step closer to being done with this seemingly cursed property once and for all.

“I’d say this calls for a celebration, but everyday feels like a party when you’re not married to Kody Brown.”

Janelle tells Maddie that once all the paperwork is completed and filed, the parcels will divided evenly and when sold, the profits will be split equally. Maddie asks her mom if she’ll also be receiving any of the money back that she put towards the purchase of Kody and Robyn’s first Mountain Mansion, though Janelle says that at this point, it’s not worth arguing over. Meanwhile, Kody tells viewers that he already settled that debt with Janelle and that she informed him that everything was good.

While Janelle never responds to Kody’s claim, she tells Maddie that she isn’t sad about Coyote Pass being sold and just wants it to be done. She admits that she thought parting with the property would hit her a little harder, but insists she’s fine as she has “a new dream” in Taeda Farms that is even “better” than the one she had with Coyote Pass.

“…better AND completely Kody-free!”

Back in Flagstaff, Kody and Robyn are hanging a garish painting based off of one of their cringe-tastic engagement photos, which Kody commissioned a former classmate of his to paint. While Kody and Robyn are infamous for filling their homes with all things tawdry, tacky and over the top, this particular piece is a lot, even for them.

Who are those people, because they are absolutely NOT Robyn and Kody Brown…

After forcing viewers to look entirely too long at the portrait of the throuple that is Kody, Robyn and Kody’s car, Kody busts out with one of his hits from high school choir, unleashing a full assault on our ears as well. We then get to hear Kody and Robyn talk about how special this painting is to them, even if it does make the notoriously shy Robyn a bit uncomfortable.

…yet somehow not too shy to ask the artist to make you 6 feet tall and 110 pounds.

Once the massive cartwork is hung, Kody casually mentions to Robyn that he received “another one of those emails” from a woman interested in becoming (another) Mrs. Brown. As Robyn’s breath becomes visibly labored, Kody explains that the plural-marriage hopeful also reached out to “chastise” him for no longer having multiple spouses. (THANKS, CHRISTINE!)

Robyn tells viewers she finds it “very inappropriate” that this woman reached out to Kody directly instead of reaching out to her first, as that’s evidently the way these things are supposed to go down. She also hints that she’s suspicious of this single woman’s motives, as she realizes how much of a catch Kody is, due to him being “stable” and a good father (UMM?!) and husband (UMM?!).

“Does this mystery woman have any self respect?! Or cable or internet access for that matter…?!”

Robyn argues that Kody’s appealing qualities would “make any girl’s eggs drop”– a phrase I hope to never read or write again for as long as I live.

Robyn says these interactions– however “improper” some may be– make her briefly consider getting back into plural marriage, though she remains on the fence. As for Kody, he claims he’s received MANY letters like this following his trio-‘o-divorces and though he admittedly likes the attention, he’s no longer interested in the “craziness” that is plural marriage.

Back in front of the cartwork, Robyn tells Kody that she doesn’t think they were “really fully embracing” plural marriage in the past and that it would have been “beautiful” if Kody would’ve been able to show love to his wives individually and collectively.

Choose your phrasing carefully, Robyn…we refuse to watch Kody cry over Sonny and Cher’s divorce for the second time in as many seasons.

Despite seemingly laying Kody’s major marriage missteps out on the oversized dining room table that somehow snuck its way into the new Mountain Mansion, Robyn assures Kody that she’s not pointing out his failures and claims she “absolutely” knows that the Brown family blowup was not entirely his fault, but rather everyone’s fault.

“…but mostly Christine’s.”

Kody surprisingly takes an iota of responsibility for his part in his marriages crumbling, admitting that he could’ve done things differently and acted as the “leader” he believes he is. Due to his past failures, Kody says if another wife were to come along, he fears that he and Robyn would “screw that one up, too.” Not to mention, they’d also have to pay to have her added to that painting.

That’s all for this week’s episode!

    1. Yep! Now he’s ready to trade Robyn out, otherwise he would never have mentioned that email to her in the last episode.

  1. We all know that when Robyn says the demise of the family is “everyone’s” fault, she really means “everyone else’s”.

  2. Does anyone lie like Sobbyn does? Sure, you wanted plural marriage, if you had access to the other wive’s money, and 95% of Kootie’s time and attention. No way does Sobbyn want any part of any reunion, where she would face the hatred that the OG3 and her now 12 stepchildren, that she never cared about, unless it was to babysit so she could canoodle with Kootie in private.

Whomever dressed that despicable b**ch for the couch scenes must hate her too, or be color blind. She looks like an 80’s fashion reject.

    1. The fashion of the first season was hilarious. I guess it was filmed in the summer because they’re all wearing tank tops or dresses with spaghetti straps with t-shirts underneath. Not only did it look ridiculous but it also made no sense! Like I’m hot and I want to wear a tank top but I’m not allowed so let me put a t-shirt on UNDER it so now I can be even hotter with my stupid extra layer. LOL!
