Mykelti Brown says her stepmom Robyn has not always been “shy” like Kody Brown often describes her. In fact, during a recent YouTube livestream, Mykelti revealed that the Sister Wives star only became “closed off” and “shy” after spending several years with Kody and his clan— and discovering that the family she married into in 2010 had actually only been pretending to be a “happy family.”
“Robin didn’t always used to be this shy. Robyn’s ‘shyness’ that she’s been the last several years wasn’t always Robyn,” Mykelti said, adding that Robyn was not closed off when Mykelti was sent to live with her before Kody and Robyn got married in 2010. “I think a lot of the shyness has been developed because she’s been hardened by opinions and hardened by reality where like, her family that she thought she was marrying into isn’t what she thought it was.”

According to Mykelti, Kody instructed all of his kids— as well as his then-wives Meri, Janelle and Christine— to hide the very serious issues that were already happening in the family when Kody was courting Robyn during the show’s first season. This, as a result, kept Robyn in the dark regarding all the problems the family had.
“I think when she first joined the family, we were told to present this beautiful front. Kind of like when we first started the show,” Mykelti said. “[We were told] we needed to put our best foot forward, and we needed to not have fights and show the world the beautifulness that is polygamy. It was the same thing when Robyn joined the family. We were told [by my dad] to show the beauty, show the privilege, show the awesomeness of our family so she would want to be part of it.”

Mykelti said the Browns did as they were told and hide their issues, but eventually, Robyn discovered that she had essentially been tricked into believing that things in the family were going well.
“I do think Robyn was shocked at how bad Dad’s relationships were with all of the wives,” Mykelti said.
“When she joined [the family], it took a while for the rose-colored glasses to come off and everybody to show their true selves and real relationships,” Mykelti said. “A couple years in, that’s when she really started to notice there aren’t little problems. These are some big issues. So, no, I don’t think she was aware about the issues [in the beginning] but I think she became aware of the issues.”

As longtime ‘Sister Wives’ fans will remember, during the first few seasons of the show Meri had a strained relationship with both Janelle and Christine, and Christine was very jealous of Robyn’s relationship with Kody. In addition, Kody’s relationships with all three of his existing wives were struggling.
According to Mykelti, Robyn was not made aware of any of these problems.

Still, Mykelti insisted that the Browns didn’t purposely deceive Robyn.
“None of us were trying to deceive her, we were trying to welcome her. We were trying not to fight in front of her…we were trying to put our best foot forward, not deceive,” she said.
‘Sister Wives’ airs Sundays on TLC.

Sounds like deception to me
You have no idea what was really going on. That wretch played them way worse than the fahhhmily played her.
Well, is anyone surprised?! He’s a horny narcasssit. It wasn’t about “celestial heaven”, it was about his “tally whacker” and manipulating women. If you want to live in polygamy or any other alternative polyamorous life style, fine and fair, not my business, but when you keep telling your “one, true wife” about all the offers from other women to “join” the family, after your OGs divorced you for being a crappy “husband”, well even the Missus got it right and called him “piggy”.
The women and men in these sister wife families aren’t equals, the men are all powerful and the women are thought keep sweet pray and obey, when the women got a life outside of their communities and church they started to see women should be a mans equal and so the disintegration of this family happened because Kody was no longer their god, their sun that they revolved around anymore, he couldn’t take not being adored and worshipped and they couldn’t take that this man had enormous flaws!
Totally dysfunctional sick family
That’s a bit harsh, imo. Dysfunctional situation, yes, but I don’t think it’s fair to paint them as sick people for beliefs they were raised with. Most of them came out of it pretty well and are now leading normal lives. Most of them are also nice people.
Absolutely a dysfunctional family and that the women in this day and age would want to share a husband and children is crazy. Of all the women I think it affected Meri the most. For him to go on national TV and say he never loved her was immensely hurtful. To this day I have no idea what Janelle was thinking. And Christine…she is still jealous of Robyn and it seems like she is obsessed with Kody. I think the only kids who have really moved on are the ones who do not participate in the filming now. But I for one believe polygamy is a sick way to live. It is for the men and what they want. But look at the kids, somehow they all decided not to live a polygamist life style. Thank God!
If you do not understand that, this family is dysfunctional, it says all I need to know about you. I stand by what I said, dysfunctional!
They agreed about being dysfunctional. They took issue with your use of “sick”, as do I. Chill. Did you even read what they said? What does that say about you? Maybe don’t throw stones in glass houses. Frankly, we’ve all got a small screw loose for even watching the damn show in the first place. 😂
I agree I think the Browns went into it with the right intentions. It was the wrong mix of people. And the wrong husband ultimately, but I do think the intentions were pure in the beginning. Other ones.. like that pigs on seeking sister wives ..are ALL just horrible. The husband’s just want exotic sex, and the wives. Just want somebody to help with the kids and the housework.
