“Unexpected” Dad Anthony Vanelli Sentenced Again for Stabbing His Mom’s Boyfriend in 2023; Headed to Inpatient Facility

“I’m out! Kinda…”

Trigger Warning: This story contains mentions of violence.

“Unexpected” baby daddy Anthony Vanelli has once again been sentenced for the 2023 stabbing of his mom’s boyfriend.

Earlier this week, Starcasm reported that the legally challenged baby daddy of Rilah Ferrer was resentenced to 918 days of prison time in November. He was, however, credited 918 days of prison time he served while in custody following a no-contest plea to aggravated battery and nonviolent resistance of an officer. Since the sentence equals the credit time, he is now listed as a person “under community supervision” and is no longer behind bars.

While he’s technically a “free” man at the moment, Anthony must attend a dual-diagnosis inpatient treatment program– meant to address both his substance use and underlying mental health issues– as soon as a bed in a facility is available.

According to court records obtained by The Ashley, the judge noted that Anthony is not allowed to “consume or possess any controlled substances including cannabis without a valid prescription to the defendant by a licensed physician.”

He must also participate in two years of community control (AKA house arrest but with the opportunity to leave for specific things like work or treatment), followed by three years of probation. He does not have to pay restitution. He does, however, have to pay a $50 a month fee for his court supervision, and over $900 in court fees.

“That’s a lot of money…and stuff.”

As The Ashley previously reported, Anthony was originally sentenced to 16 months of prison time for “repeatedly stabbing” his mom Rebecca’s boyfriend after an argument escalated over Anthony carrying a knife around the home. Rebecca’s boyfriend had asked Anthony why he was carrying the knife, especially considering there were children in the home, and he replied that it was “for [his] protection.”

Anthony then proceeded to stab his mom’s boyfriend in the chest and back before fleeing their Florida home. Anthony’s sisters “rendered aid” to their mom’s boyfriend before the ambulance arrived while the police tracked down Anthony, who attempted to escape.

“Sorry about that, Ma…and stuff.”

(Just an FYI, Rebecca’s boyfriend who appeared on “Unexpected” is not the same man as the stabbing victim. That man, Markos Asmat, went to jail in 2019 for his involvement in a murder and is currently serving prison time for burglary of a dwelling with assault\battery with a firearm, according to Starcasm.)

Rebecca told law enforcement after the stabbing that Anthony suffers from bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, which prompted his public defender to file a motion in March 2025 to declare Anthony not competent to stand trial. According to the motion, Anthony “suffers from a mental illness” and “does not have the present ability to consult with his counsel with a reasonable degree of rational understanding.”

One of Anthony’s many muggy offerings…

After evaluation by a professional in June of this year, the judge ruled Anthony not competent to stand trial and he was admitted to the Department of Children and Family Services.

However, after a transport order was issued, a representative of Anthony’s treatment facility claimed he was “competent to proceed, or otherwise no longer meets the criteria for continued commitment” in November, which has led to his resentencing after pleading no contest.

This is not Anthony’s first run-in with the law. As The Ashley has reported, he was first arrested for domestic battery in 2019 against Rilah– who he shares daughter Malayah with– after multiple physical encounters, which Rilah detailed on her Instagram. He was arrested twice in 2021 for allegedly stealing his grandma’s car and shooting into his former stepfather’s home and a separate assault with a deadly weapon, before being arrested in 2022 for tampering with his ankle monitor and running from the police.

Rilah has not publicly commented on Anthony’s recent sentencing, but when he was initially arrested, she commented on a post by the @tlc.unexpectedteaa Instagram account saying, “His family was pressing me about not letting him be around Malayah and I rest my case.”

Anthony, Rilah and their daughter in “happier” times…

“He’s a nut job and I haven’t had my daughter around him in years,” she added.

Anthony’s family has yet to comment on the recent sentencing.
