Newly Released 911 Call Gives More Details About Death of “90 Day Fiance” Star Chuck Potthast

It’s been just over a month since the death of 90 Day Fiance star Chuck Potthast, and a newly released 911 call made the day he died is shedding a bit more light on how the reality TV star died.

As The Ashley previously reported, Chuck— who is the father of “90 Day” franchise staple Elizabeth Potthastdied on November 9. Elizabeth and other family members announced his death publicly on November 23, but did not disclose his cause of death. (Elizabeth and her sister did, however, deny several media outlets’ claims that Chuck passed away from brain cancer, and threatened to press charges against outlets that did not remove the false information from their stories.)

On Friday, TMZ posted audio of a 911 call made by Chuck’s son in which he reveals that Chuck was found in the bathtub and had been bleeding profusely.

“I need an ambulance to my house immediately,” Chuck’s son tells the 911 operator. “I just found my dad in the bathtub and he’s bleeding everywhere.”

When the 911 operator asks Chuck’s son what happened to Chuck, he says that he has “no clue.” He also tells the operator that Chuck was not awake when he found him.

“To be honest, he doesn’t look alive, ma’am,” he says. “I don’t know what to do. There’s blood everywhere…he’s laying face down in the bathtub.”

Elizabeth and the rest of her family have yet to comment on the information released in the 911 call.

Chuck had been suffering from a variety of health problems, some of which he shared publicly. In 2022, he revealed on 90 Day Diaries that he had battled cancer in 2016, but was officially cancer-free by 2017.

In July, he revealed that he had surgery to remove something that he had feared was a tumor. (It turned out to be a large kidney stone.) Chuck took to Instagram to share his good news, telling fans “I’m so excited that my cancer didn’t come back.”

In September, he shared that he had underwent a lengthy surgery to fix hernias that had developed after some of his cancer-related surgeries, but claimed that all had gone well.

  1. It says he had a colostomy a few years back. Then in September he had abdominal surgery, so something could very easily burst, leaked, exploded, an anastomosis could have split, if he still had the colostomy, blood could easily have spread or leaked out via the colostomy orafice. Seeing how he was found in the bathroom, he most likely was chexking the colostomy and passed out from blood loss and fell. Just my humble experience in healthcare.

  2. what was the status of Chucks & his son’s relationship at the time.. Jr. was ate up with the friendship between Andrea & Chuck Sr.

  4. Happy was always my favorite character. Especially the love between he and all of his kids, son in laws, grandkids but my favorite was between he and Libby. I’ve lost a parent and clickbait is terrible. You “never get over it” you have to learn to “live with it.” Grief is love that has no where to go. Please take all of the time you need, lean on each other, friends and family, put shit aside and just be there for each other. Anything as simple as a meal or cleaning Elizabeth and Andre’s house, anything helps any of His children. Tomorrow isn’t promised and that’s why I’m so grateful for the 21 years I had with my mom. We love YOU guys xoxo

  5. It’s not impossible that the fall in the shower is being considered an outcome of the brain cancer.

Either way I imagine she thought it sounded more dignified that “fell in shower”.

  6. Just because there is blood does not mean suicide. A dear friend of ours had a stroke while alone , fell, cut head open …. There was a lot of blood. Chuck would also know suicide would not allow for a life insurance pay out. Most importantly he might not have wanted a family member to find him.

    1. Many policies DO allow for payment for suicide but it has to come after the policy has been in effect for at least 2 yrs, or whatever number they’ve assigned. Unfortunately know this from personal experience.

The last thing we’d ever expect someone who is hurting so badly to do is pull out their policy and look thru it! Just in case someone doesn’t realize tho, sometimes they will pay out so always check!

    2. It’s an urban legend that lnsurance doesn’t pay out for suicide. There’s usually a waiting period, but most life insurance policies pay out for suicide after the waiting period is up.

  7. It could be more likely that maybe Chuck stood up to get out of the tub and he slept and fell hit his head which a hard hit to the head or under the chin can also cause extensive bleeding Not to mention death if you hit your head hard enough. I do not believe the chuck would have taken his own life He loved his family and especially that baby too much. He had his arms around life and he was so thankful for what he had.

  8. I want to give some of you who have seen their parents deceased some peace- I had a near death experience- drowning- I realized I was going to die- and I suddenly felt so free so light- like shedding a heavy coat soaked with water, I remember thinking- My Mom is going to be so upset and I heard “ it will be alright” and I thought- ok and never thought about it again- I felt so amazing- so wonderful- I saw a film playing about my life from the moment I was born- understood conversations I was too young to understand at the time they took place- I know I saw wonderful things- and was told I had to go back- I begged and begged- but no- someone pulled me from the water- and when I took my first breath I forgot everything I learned…. Except one thing (which is not important to you all- family matter) but I know I could also feel the effect I had on people I hurt- all in all for years after I would be envious of people who passed. Trust me- this is but a classroom – our real existence is on the other side with God…. And everyone goes somewhere apparently souls are impossible to destroy. Choose wisely.

    1. Thank you for sharing. Sounds a lot like what I heard from people on A&Es “I Survived: Beyond & Back”. It is comforting. It’s also a good reminder to continue to be better person. Having to relive the times you might have hurt people would be hard.

  9. Death is one of the things everyone has to go through.

When I read if his death the month prior I figured it was health reasons.

Reading hiw he was found made me so upset. It is a life changing moment to find anyone deceased.

I found my own mom after she had passed. I just try not to talk about it because death surrounding suicide can just suck for some. She had a lot of health issues due to a previous cancer and cold and it seemed the couple weeks prior she got some sort of quick dementia and was just spiraling so fast. She overdosed and I don’t talk about it to anyone in real life. I can’t.

The kids are probably upset and mad.

I am sorry he felt so bad he wanted to do that. Idc what anyone says, it is a very selfish thing to do to the people who care about you, especially when you do it in a way that someone in your family will find you.

    I hope they find peace.

    1. I don’t know this sounds like an accident also….

I am so sorry for your loss- losing a parent is the hardest thing- you were lucky to have a Mom you loved so much.

      1. Idk. A fall could suggest the blood, but why is the daughter saying that he died due to the illness when she could just say he slipped and fell in the bath?

  10. Chuck was a family man who loved all his kids and wanted them to be successful in their lives. Prayers for the family and friends. I can’t imagine walking into the house and finding my father like that. That will be something that his son will never forget.

  11. As someone who called the ambulance for my own dad (who was also already deceased when we found him, sans blood)…this stays with you forever.

  12. No idea what caused the bleeding, but it would be traumatic to find either one of my parents dead. Hopefully his kids find some peace.

    1. Cancer was found to chest and neck, not wrists. And who would kill themselves to let their family find them. I doubt this guy. I think someone did him in for insurance money.
