The fate of Teen Mom remains up in the air, but one person who seemingly wouldn’t mind if the cameras turned off for good is Nova Baltierra, the 11-year-old daughter of Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra.
During an appearance on her parents’ Cate & Ty Break It Down! podcast this week, Nova spoke about what it’s been like being on TV since birth, as well as how she felt about a camera crew constantly following her and her family around.
“I haven’t known any different,” Nova told her mom Catelynn. “But now without the [film] people here all the time, it’s kind of more freeing.”
Nova stated that, while she loved the people from the film crew, having to film could make her “annoyed a little bit.”
“Like when I went over to my grandma’s. Like, I could just [want to] spend time with my grandma [but I] saw cameras everywhere,” she said.
Nova went on to tell her mom that, while she does miss seeing the film crew, not filming for the show has helped her “spend more time with you guys instead of just focusing on the cameras and stuff.”
Catelynn and Tyler have been filmed for some sort of ‘Teen Mom’ show since they appeared on 16 and Pregnant 16 years ago. All of their major life milestones– including their wedding and the births of all of their children— have been on-camera.
(Nova is the second of Cate and Ty’s four daughters. The couple also shares seven-year-old Vaeda and four-year-old Rya. Their eldest daughter– 16-year-old Carly— was placed for adoption at birth and has been raised by Brandon and Teresa Davis. Currently, Catelynn and Tyler have no contact with Carly, due to Brandon and Teresa cutting them off in 2024.)

“Do you think mom and dad made a good decision by signing up for television and allowing it to document our lives and our children?” Catelynn asked Nova. “Or do you think not?”
“It could be negative and positive at the same time,” Nova replied. “Because it really did bring a lot of good people into your life and our life… But in the negative way, I would probably say it kind of takes away from being free.”
Nova explained that, while she didn’t feel filming for the show took away from them “being a family,” she didn’t like that her parents weren’t always free to do things with her, due to them needing to film.
“It’s kind of like a feeling where I want to spend time with you. But then also you sometimes have to shoo me away because of like a certain scene that you have to do,” Nova said. (Catelyn clarified that when they’d have to “shoo” Nova away, it was often because they were filming a scene that included conversations not appropriate for kids.)
“Or we have to retake the scene like 10,000 times,” Nova added. “And it doesn’t really make sense because it’s supposed to be a reality show. And in my opinion, I feel like reality shows should be like what actually happens, not just like a return cycle.”
Despite her annoyance at the cameras, Nova said she would be willing to film again, should ‘Teen Mom: The Next Chapter’ get picked up for another season, mostly because she misses the film crew a lot. (Nova’s godmother is actually ‘Teen Mom’ producer Kiki Malone.)
“We don’t know if we’re going to get picked back up or not,” Cate told Nova of the show. “It’s kind of like up in the air right now. They haven’t told us that were canceled or anything, but a new company came in and bought MTV. And so there’s just a bunch of changes going on. So we’re not really sure yet.”
As The Ashley previously reported, ‘Teen Mom: The Next Chapter’ has been on hiatus since last year. Despite several cast members claiming that the show has been cancelled, the network has yet to officially cancel the show. The cast’s existing contracts expire in May, so the network will have to inform them by that time if the show will continue or not.

The whole point of giving up Carly in the first place was so that Cate and Tyler could finish school, get jobs, and have a future. (Nothing accomplished there.). It was also so Carly could have a decent future too, because if ANYONE saw the original Teen Moms would know that the environment was NOT healthy for any child to be brought into. April and her addictions, Butch and his addictions, Butch and his prison stints….the cigarettes, the booze, the filth…it was like you could smell whatever house they were in through the tv. Absolutely gross. Cate didnt even feel comfortable living there…she escaped to Tyler’s mom’s house!
This show needs to go.
Not to offend anyone here but I feel that Cate n Tyler are confusing their daughters that they have currently. They wanted to give Carly up for a better chance at life as long as they were allowed to see her but for them to manipulate Nova is not right sure she is allowed to talk about her but to manipulate her is wrong!!! Nova is clearly being manipulated by her parents but she only saw Carly a few times. I believe that Brandon n Theresa are doing WHAT is BEST for the daughter that they have ADOPTED until Carly is 18 years old or 21 years old (I think it’s different in other states but I could be wrong so don’t judge me please) is legally her guardians after that Carly can decide if she wants a relationship with her biological parents and siblings or not. Carly and Tyler should stop with all of this manipulation because clearly someone is going to be hurt by this.
Brandon and Theresa aren’t Carly’s guardians, they are her parents.

All of Nova’s feelings are valid, however, she’s been manipulated by cait and ty since day 1 to long for Carly. They should be ashamed of themselves. They need to accept the circumstances with Carly and focus on Nova and their other children.
Back in the day Tyler mentioned that he wanted to go to school for some kind of film/communications degree, if he had an ounce of sense, he’d get on top of that because the well is going to dry up very very fast for the two of them without the TM $. They are incapable of dealing with finances and living the way they did when they were kids, and this podcast nonsense isn’t going to pay the bills. I see bankruptcy in their very near future.
This is EXACTLY what Bentley has been trying to say all along. He will be 18 and despite some years when they didn’t film…basically his whole life has been shown. Poor Nova has been on TV since the day she was born! (Which was the same case for some of the Duggar kids until the shows got cancelled) Just let a kid be, ffs, and let Bentley become a normal young adult. I’m not even gonna start about influencer kids because that’s a whole another can of worms. (And even non-influencer parents show way too much of their kids’ faces) Leave children off social media. Do I even have to explain why?!

It’s so obvious that her parents coach her before she talks on these “podcasts!” These two morons will do anything to exploit their children and bring attention to themselves. Both Tyler and Cate are so immature and couldn’t care less what they say in articles or podcasts or whatever dumbass thing they do for money. Did anyone see the interview that Yahoo posted this week of Nova “sharing her “true feelings” about her “sister Carly” It was laughable! Every word was Tyler and Cate! Really pathetic. It was simply ANOTHER attempt for Cate and Tyler to tell their Carly story for the millionth time! Yet they claimed it was all Novas idea because “she looks up to her sister Carly and misses her so much!!” They continually asked her rehearsed questions using the words “your sister Carly.” Really? Do they not even see the damage they create for Nova by dragging her into this bullshit and trying to play the victims? Tyler is a disgusting excuse for a father and Cate is just lazy and pathetic.

i do believe that it’s nova’s true feelings though HOWEVER it’s entirely cate and tyler’s faults why nova sees it like that and why their daughters are struggling so much about carly!!! not saying they should’ve kept carly a secret but they never stop talking about her and talk like she’s their long lost sister who was stolen from them so of course little kids are going to see it like that!

No, that’s a weird reality show spin. Nova is a real person, not just a personality that’s on TV. There is no way that she wouldn’t think about it. Also the interview they did with the other girl from 16 & pregnant who chose adoption, said the same thing about her child. That is a completely normal and valid reaction to having an older sibling placed for adoption. You probably just hate her parents and that’s okay but don’t put that on a kid.
Watching her parents spiral publicly (because they regret giving up a baby all those years ago) is an extremely damaging thing to a small girl. In a healthy child with a healthy upbringing, it would’ve been random thoughts while playing or swinging, and random questions BROUGHT UP BY HER, that her parents would carefully respond to. They’ve done serious damage that can’t be undone.
How can Nova claim to “Look up” to her. In honesty, she’s pretty much a stranger. My weird bio aunt always says she loves me. These people are really just strangers. It sounds mean. But come on…
She only feels that way because of the things her parents CONSTANTLY say on social media or in interviews. These two losers TELL Nova what to say in order to further their agenda. They blame the adoption agency, Carly’s parents, everyone but themselves. If Nova’s immature, white-trash parents had handled the situation like actual adults, and if they had followed the rules, they would still be in a good relationship with Carly’s parents!
They pushed for Nova to miss Carly. They even made her blow out the candles on “Carly’s birthday cake” for the cameras. And told her that they were being kept from Carly and that it wasn’t fair (why put that on a kid?). The way they have put this burden on Nova is twisted. Nova wouldn’t feel this way about Carly if Cate and Tyler hadn’t forced Nova to constantly talk about her and pay homage to her.
Made a birthday cake for Carly but couldn’t be bothered to send her birthday or Christmas presents or cards. Texting Teresa not stop here is us on vacation with our other kids look how much fun we had here and here with out you Carly. And we are going to bad mouth your real parents every chance we get. As a adopted person I would cut off contact with them too. If she wanted contact with them she knows how to contact them. I hope they have left her alone now.
Yup. Most of this stuff with Carly is performative. They only reached out to Carly and her parents and tried to maintain contact when it would be filmed or publicized in some way. When TM was on hiatus when Carly was a toddler, they didn’t reach out at all. They would hold a fake birthday party for the cameras, forcing Nova to participate, but didn’t actually send Carly a birthday present. The way these two treat the kids is actually incredibly twisted

It’s different for everyone. I never wanted to meet my bio father or his family. My mom has significant relationships with her sisters she found on ancestry. My husband wants nothing to do with his adopted sibling. I do think they influence Carly and her feelings.

as much as chelsea annoyed me, she’s the only one i see as the superior mom from the entire franchise because she chose to leave on her own for her daughter’s wellbeing!!
I was recently hospitalized and happened to catch Chelsea’s show. I can see why the HGtV format is better suited for her family. The kids are visible but not all the time and no one in their face asking emotionally taxing questions for the sake of content.

I can’t actually understand any reason why someone would hate Chelsea other than jealousy. It isn’t her fault she was privileged. She had a very relatable story for MANY WOMEN when it came to Adam. Also, she was a good mother who ALWAYS put her daughter first. What is there to dislike unless it’s just jealousy? Seriously. You don’t have to like her personality at all. But she did nothing to be hated for. Nothing.

I personally love Chelsea. She could’ve gone a VERY different path. Even with Adam, alone. She did try I think, for Aubrey’s sake, to have some sort of relationship with him and once she broke romantic ties, she didn’t pressure Aubrey to take Cole as her dad until that was a choice made on Aubrey’s own. She has never claimed MTV didn’t “help” her get where she is (AKA she’s not delusional) and she went on with other ventures that happened to be televised. I think she would’ve done well, anyway- she had a very supportive family and seemed very driven IMO. She’s always been a good mom and got out of the Teen Mom franchise as soon as she could. She could have gone on quite a bit longer for the easy money but chose not to for her kids best interest and I don’t think it was the fact that she knew, without a doubt, she had another TV show on the horizon. She left MTV in 2020 and didn’t get an HGTV show until 2023 and she’s honestly stayed out of the “gossip column” type sites and is just living her life doing what she loves to do, with the man she loves, while raising and caring for her kids. Period. Anyone that doesn’t like Chelsea (with the exception of not liking the baby voice) is honestly jealous. I agree completely. She’s probably the only one from Teen mom I respect in any capacity

Trying to figure out who Nova looks like is hard because Caitlyn and Tyler are starting to look like the same person. But Nova definitely favors Ape.
