Anthony Vanelli is heading to prison.

Starcasm reported earlier this week that Anthony, who was featured on season three of Unexpected, has been sentenced to 51 months and 11 days in Florida state prison for violating the terms of his probation for stabbing his mother’s boyfriend in 2023.

According to court documents obtained by Starcasm, “This Officer recommends the offender’s Community Control be modified to the special conditions: the offender be held in custody until he completes a mental health evaluation and if he is deemed incompetent to be placed in a long-term mental health institution. The offender poses a threat to himself and the community. The offender has proven that he is in need of a stricter form of treatment as evident by his unpredictable behavior that led to his unsuccessful discharge from the Crossroads Program.”

The outlet learned that Anthony had been discharged from the program after one day “due to displaying aggressive behavior towards staff and other clients.”

As The Ashley reported, Anthony was arrested three years ago for stabbing his mother’s boyfriend multiple times. His mother told police her son had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Anthony was originally found not competent to stand trial and was sent to a treatment facility. Following his stay, he was found “competent to proceed, or otherwise no longer meets the criteria for continued commitment,” and was resentenced in December, The Ashley reported.

At the resentencing, Anthony was credited with time served and order to attend a dual-diagnosis inpatient treatment program, the program he was quickly discharged from. According to court records obtained by The Ashley, the judge noted that Anthony was not allowed to “consume or possess any controlled substances including cannabis without a valid prescription to the defendant by a licensed physician” and that he needed to participate in two years of community control (AKA house arrest but with the opportunity to leave for specific things like work or treatment), followed by three years of probation, plus pay a $50 a month fee for his court supervision and over $900 in court fees.

Just six days after being transferred out of custody, Anthony was arrested for “violation of probation/community control/summons” for failing to remain enrolled (and successfully completing) a required residential treatment program, The Ashley reported.

Anthony has a long history of legal trouble. He was arrested twice in 2021, once for allegedly stealing his grandmother’s car and firing a gun at his former stepdad’s house, and later for assault with a deadly weapon. In 2022, he was arrested for allegedly tampering with his ankle monitor and attempting to run from a police officer.

Due in part to these issues, Anthony has no relationship with his former girlfriend and ‘Unexpected’ costar Rilah Ferrer or with their daughter, Malayah. At the time of this arrest, Rilah, who announced she was expecting a baby with her current boyfriend back in January, commented on an Instagram post, “His family was pressing me about me not letting him be around Malayah and I rest my case. He’s a nut job and I haven’t had my daughter around him in years. Hope his mom feels stupid rn.”

She added, ” … I have no idea what he does and what goes on in his life, he’s far away from me and my family.”
