Mykelti Brown says she no longer has a relationship with her father Kody or his wife Robyn, despite being their ‘favorite’ for years due to her willingness to be friendly to Robyn.
In a recent interview with the Cults to Consciousness podcast, the Sister Wives star revealed what Kody did that finally made her cut him and Robyn off, just as nearly all her siblings had done years ago. ‘Sister Wives’ fans watched for years as Mykelti maintained a relationship with Kody, Robyn and their kids, despite the rest of the Browns not being in contact with them.
“My dad and I don’t talk right now,” Mykelti said. “We went through a couple years where I was the favorite child.”
Mykelti said she hoped she was at least the favorite kid of the ones who came from Kody’s three ex-wives, Janelle, Meri and Christine.
“Probably not, but I like to think of myself as [one of the favorite children from] the OG 3 [wives],” she said, adding that this was because Kody loved her husband Tony Padron and she was the only one of Kody’s kids from his first three wives who got along with Robyn.

“Like, her and I had a great relationship,” Mykelti said. “So, I was like one of the favorites. I was top-tier. But then when I, like, started to dismantle and talk back and was questioning him and questioning Robyn and their motives, they started to slowly pull back and almost like cut me out a little bit because I started having an opinion.”
Mykelti said that Kody and Robyn slowly stopped talking to her, but then Kody would come back and try very hard to win back her affection.
“My dad became almost like a— he would love bomb,” Mykelti said. “I’d get tons of affection from him. He would show up a bunch, and then he wouldn’t talk to me or call me for, like, four months. And he wouldn’t respond when I tried.”

“So I was just kind of like, ‘I don’t need this in my life.’ I had my own problems to deal with. So I stopped answering his phone calls,” she said.
Mykelti stated that when Kody launched his “Apology Tour” during the 20th season of ‘Sister Wives,’ it made her think about rekindling her relationship with her dad and Robyn.
“He was going around to all of his [ex]-wives and saying sorry for crap which, it was really just for him. It wasn’t for them,” she said, adding thatKody’s apology tour did encourage her to try to make amends with her follicley-challenged father once more.
“I sent my dad a really cool, heartfelt scrapbook that my kids and I had made,” she said. “I sent it to him and Robyn and I addressed it to all of their kids. I was actually really excited about it– handprints, photos, there’s a little voice camera. Like, I put so much love into this. It was homemade. It was homemade love.”

Mykelti stated that she wrote notes to her dad, Robyn and each of their kids in the book, telling them she wanted to reconnect.
Mykelti said that Kody received the scrapbook on Christmas Eve but didn’t respond, so two weeks later she texted him, asking if he received the gift. Mykelti claimed it took The Curled One two weeks more to respond to her text, eventually writing, “Yeah, I got it. Thanks.”
Mykelti said Kody’s lack of response to something so heartfelt made her realize who her dad really is.
“It finally just kind of clicked in my head,” she said. “Like, you’re selfish. You’re a narcissist. You want to be looked at as the best person. And if you’re not looked at as the best person, you don’t care. So, it’s not me you care about. It’s that I’ll talk good about you. You only want me if I can talk good about you and listen to you talk.”

“So I just realized that I don’t need to have a relationship so right now I am not in contact with him,” she stated.
Mykelti said that she will no longer waste her time and energy into trying to get Kody to care.
“It was the final straw because I spent my whole life just trying to make him happy, trying to please him, trying to be the bridge for my family trying to keep everybody together,” she said. “But I have my own problems. I have three kids; I’ll put my life and energy into them instead.”
Earlier in the interview, Mykelti noted that, growing up, she was one of the kids that Kody spent the least amount of time with.

“I was heavily neglected. I was heavily ignored,” she said. “I was not hung out with unless it was for punishment. My dad and I did not have a good or healthy relationship.”
She added that she doesn’t believe that it was because Kody specifically disliked her; he just couldn’t keep up.
“He has a bajillion kids and I’m simply not the easy one,” she said. “And that’s what I always thought of growing up…I never took it super-personal until later in life.”
“None of my siblings had their needs met,” Mykelti stated. “None of them. Like of all my siblings, maybe two of them had their needs met.”
Mykelti credited her oldest sister Aspyn and oldest brother Logan for stepping up during her childhood.
“Logan raised us. Logan and Aspyn,” she said. “That was a big part of it because there were so many [kids] and my parents were working so much.”

I thought something happened at Garrison’s funeral?
Didn’t she say that last year or the end of 2024?
Maybe I’m mistaken.
Kody is a narcissist…
Who doesn’t respond after receiving a homemade scrapbook of their child and grandchildren…
I do feel sorry for the OG brown kids. They didn’t ask for the toxic and unstable environment their parents brought them into and continued to create as they grew up.
Good for her for creating boundaries and focusing on her babies and husband!
I remember her saying it was something at the funeral too.
Everything I’ve watched and read leads me to believe he and Robyn refused to acknowledge Leon.
Recognizing your parent is a narcissist and possibly how the other parent enabled this behavior is a hard pill to swallow. I wish her peace and healing. Pouring that energy and love into her own life is the right choice.
