Former ‘Counting On’ Star Joseph Duggar Lawyers Up in Arkansas & Pleads Not Guilty to Child Endangerment/False Imprisonment Charges

“I didn’t do that stuff…and stuff.”

Joseph Duggar has pleaded not guilty to the charges filed against him in Arkansas last month for false imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a child.

According to court documents obtained by The Ashley, the former Counting On star entered his plea via his attorney on Monday.

Like his wife, Kendra (who was charged alongside him for the alleged crimes), Joe has retained the Duggar Family’s trusty attorney, Travis Story, for the case. (This is interesting because, during a phone call with Joe last month while Joe was in the slammer, Kendra made it clear that Travis had been hired for her and her alone, and not Joe.)

“I’ve been talking to Travis,” Kendra told Joe in the jail phone call in March. “I’ve got him as my attorney now. I wasn’t sure if you knew that, I’ve asked him to be my attorney.”

“I wasn’t sure who we settled with but this guy’s good,” Joe says of Travis.

‘Well it’s not for you, it’s only for me,” she tells him.

As The Ashley told you on Monday, Kendra has also pleaded not guilty to the charges. Unlike Joe, however, Kendra is now allowed to have contact with the couple’s four children, as a judge agreed last week to dissolve the no-contact order issued on March 20 that barred her from having contact with the kids.

Joe— who is also facing criminal charges out of Florida for allegedly molesting a nine-year-old girl while on vacation in 2020— is not allowed to have unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18.

Both Kendra and Joe are still facing four counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor, as well as four counts of second-degree false imprisonment. Joe’s parents, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar have been very supportive of the couple since their arrests, with Michelle even being the person who bailed Kendra out (and then proceeded to get into an unhinged argument with a paparazzi who was trying to capture that Kodak moment for the Interwebs!)

This is my Roman Empire!

Ma and Pa Duggar released a public statement last month, making it clear that they are standing with Kendra through her arrest, as well as dealing with Joe’s Florida charges.

“Jim Bob and Michelle are heartbroken over this entire situation,” the family’s spokesperson told Us Weekly“Right now, they are focused on loving their family and helping Kendra and her children during this difficult time. They are praying for the victim. They ask for privacy and appreciate the kind words and prayers offered by so many.”

In an email sent to Joe while he was in jail in Arkansas, Jim Bob expressed his anger over Kendra being charged and confirmed he paid for Travis to represent his daughter-in-law.

“Dad, help! We aren’t made for that jail life, clearly!”

“It is ridiculous that they charged Kendra and arrested her,” Jim Bob writes. “We’ve hired [a lawyer] to help Kendra. We are praying that we can get her charges dropped…”

A clerk from the Washington County District Court confirmed to The Ashley on Tuesday that both Kendra and Joe have their next court date for this case on August 10.

This is, of course, a completely separate criminal case than the one Joe has pending in Florida for the child molestation charges. His next court case for that case will be May 18. Joe has pleaded not guilty to those charges as well.

    1. This is in relation to the charges stemming from his own children, not the Florida case.
