On the upcoming episode of Mama June: Family Crisis, Mama June Shannon makes it very clear that she isn’t rooting for daughter Jessica Shannon’s relationship with Shyann McCant and is even hoping to see the couple call it quits “very soon.”
In an exclusive sneak peek of Friday’s episode obtained by Entertainment Tonight, viewers see June call her daughter Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon to invite her and her family to dinner that week, later telling husband Justin Stroud that she also plans to invite Jessica to the get together. When Justin asks if that invite will also be extended to Jessica’s girlfriend (now fiancée) Shyann, June makes it clear that she isn’t Shyann’s biggest fan.
“If she comes, she comes,” June says.
After June calls Jessica and is met with her voicemail greeting, she tells Justin that Shyann is “probably out spending Jessica’s money,” and that the couple is likely doing “everything Shyann wants to do.”
June then reveals to viewers that she has no use for Jessica’s girlfriend.
“I don’t wanna hurt Jessica’s feelings by no means, but I really hope that her and Shyann, like, run their course and it ends very soon because I cannot stand Shyann,” she says.
June explains that she has issues with Shyann because Shyann doesn’t allow Jessica to spend time with her family anymore. Later in the clip, June tells Justin that Shyann wears the pants in her and Jessica’s relationship, arguing that the two regularly spend time with Shyann’s family, while allegedly rarely seeing Jessica’s.
“Shyann is, like, controlling,” June claims, insisting that every time Jessica gets money, Shyann immediately wants to go to “the local Wal-Mart” to indulge in some shopping.
“You can’t save and keep thinking about your future if all you’re doing is spending as fast as you’re making it,” June says.
No, seriously. June— the woman who once pawned nearly everything she owned and sold her home for pennies on the dollar to fund her drug habit— is actually trying to advise someone else on finances.
The fact that June was accusing someone of spending someone else’s money did not resonate well with the show’s fans. After Entertainment Tonight posted the preview clip to its Facebook page, fans blasted June in the comment section for condemning Shyann, despite having committed financial crimes against her own family.
“I can guarantee any female the daughter dates is 1000 times better than any man [June] has ever brought around them,” one person wrote.
“June is the last person who should judge someone’s spending habits,” another person wrote.
“Wow, she’s giving financial advice when she spent Lana’s college money on a man!” someone else commented.
As fans of ‘Mama June: Family Crisis’ know, June’s youngest daughter, Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, called out June on an episode of the family’s WeTV show last year for allegedly mishandling some of her reality TV earnings, leaving her with only enough money to cover her first year of college tuition. (June later addressed some of the claims regarding Alana’s misplaced earnings, noting that she planned to give Alana a lump sum of money that she believed she owed her from past arrangements.)
Although Jessica and Shyann are now engaged, June revealed earlier this summer while promoting the new season of ‘Mama June: Family Crisis’ that it had taken some time for her future daughter-in-law to grow on her. She did, however, seem to agree with Pumpkin and Jessica that the situation with Shyann had improved.
“Umm, I mean, she’s OK,” June told ET when asked her feelings about Shyann. “ … I mean, yeah, we did have our whole thing. I mean, she would kind of stand off [from] the family and she wouldn’t come around and we expressed that [to her] … .”
When Pumpkin interjected during the interview to remind her mom that their family can be “a lot” at times, Jessica added that Shyann is now “more open” with everyone.
As The Ashley previously reported, Jessica proposed to Shyann during a cruise vacation in September 2024. The couple has not yet announced when they plan to get married.

Perhaps jessica doesn’t want to spend time with you june.. It’s not like you raised your children in a loving and nurturing family. I mean, you didn’t even raise your youngest for how many years of her life not to mention stealing money from two of your children…. The only problem June as with her children’s partners and ex partners is really that they are better people than her
OMG Wait Justin does not work and he spends her $$, so even if that was true how is she justifying her comment! Nothing ever applies to her,she has a warped sense of reality!
Justin is still too good for mama June either way. Maybe it’s just an act, but he does seem like he is a caring and nice person. He may not be a looker, but he seems to try to steer June in the right direction. I could actually see June telling him he can’t work, because she wants complete control over him. She knows he could find someone better. It’s a wild guess, but I do think it may be true.
I think he’s her full time carer because she’s classed as blind
Jessica seems very happy. She’s probably the happiest of the bunch from what I’ve seen. She also seems to still be close to her sisters.
I don’t see a problem, except for the insufferable June.
Setting healthy boundaries with your POS mom with the help of a supportive partner will do that you!

Nobody in their right mind would want to spend a lot of time around June. If Jessica was smart, she’d start distancing herself and Shyann before June’s nonsense ruins their relationship like it did Pumpkin and Josh.
