Kail Lowry is opening up about a scary medical issue that her son is experiencing after being misdiagnosed by doctors.
The former Teen Mom star recently posted a photo of herself with her two-year-old son Rio (whom she shares with her ex-fiancé Elijah Scott) at the doctor while Rio received an ultrasound. The photo caused her followers to wonder why the toddler needed the ultrasound, and Kail revealed during the latest episode of her Coffee Convos podcast what was going on with her son.
Kail— who is the mother of six sons and one daughter— revealed that last year, Rio began to develop a lump above his belly button, which she (and apparently Rio’s doctor) assumed was a small hernia.
“I thought it was from the ISR swim lessons because he has to roll over and float on his back,” Kail said. “And so I thought the stress of that created this little lump that looked like a hernia.”
Although the doctor told Kail not to worry and that the lump would resolve on its own, she stated that the lump actually began to get worse recently.
“This year, over the past couple of weeks, I’ve noticed this protruding out of his abdomen,” she said. “And in the one, if you zoom in, it sort of looks discolored a little bit.”
Kail stated that she took Rio to the doctor, who told the ‘Teen Mom’ star that the lump was not a hernia after all. Rio underwent the ultrasound and Kail said she is now awaiting the doctor to give her the results.
“On the chart thing I logged into, it says, ‘Reniform nodule in the area of interest consistent with lymph node. The differential includes granuloma or complex cyst. Neoplasia cannot be excluded,'” Kail told her co-host Lindsie Chrisley. “And neoplasia is a tumor. So that cannot be excluded. And obviously as a mom, the first thing [was] my stomach sunk and I was like, ‘What the f**k?'”
Neoplasia is an “abnormal mass of tissue that forms when cells grow and divide more than they should or do not die when they should. Neoplasms may be benign (not cancer) or malignant (cancer)… Also called tumor,” according to the website of the National Cancer Institute.
Kail stated that the next step is for Rio to get a biopsy done on the lump and remove it.
“So that’s what we’re going to do,” she said.
Kail advised her listeners to investigate deeper when it comes to medical issues.
“When it comes to your health, check everything out because I really thought it was a hernia this whole time and they told me it was going to resolve itself,” she said. “I didn’t ask for a second opinion….now I have mom guilt. The fact that neoplasia cannot be ruled out just freaked me out.”

I really wish they would skip the part about doing a biopsy, and schedule him for surgery and remove it. Because if you biopsy it it’s just going to disturb the mass and if there’s cancer in it it spread. So I would just feel better as a parent, if this was my situation, if they would just schedule it and remove it.
My son is pretty close to being legally blind. He also has no m depth perception. He passed his vision tests at school somehow. Never bumped around or anything. He took a bite out of a tomato thinking it was a strawberry once. He was 5. I didn’t think anything of it. Until he was with his grandma and she told him to “look at the barn.” A giant red barn. He couldn’t see it. We were shocked and took him in immediately. The dr scolded us for not noticing earlier. When you are born unable to see. It’s just normal to you.
All I have to say about this situation is I pray that Rio will be fine and that he gets the proper diagnosis and treatment for what the issue is.
Kail maybe a lot of things but she loves her children and I hope that whatever it is was caught soon. Kail if you happen to be reading this prayers and good thoughts for your little boy. Please Jesus let this be a big nothing and I pray for Rio and all who love him
I’m not Kail fan, but she shouldn’t let her mom guilt get to her. A DOCTOR told her her son was fine. She had no idea he wasn’t, how could she?!? We can only advocate when we have more information or even just a gut feeling that something isn’t right. And once she realized something wasn’t right she got him medical attention and is currently treating the issue at hand.
I’m not at all surprised that she brushed it off (to be honest, many would assume hernia initially, most wouldn’t likely continue to brush it off for months if it didn’t start to resolve itself). I say this because she has proven that she doesn’t really care about the health of her children much at all. She doesn’t vaccinate her kids, the older two are only vaccinated because their fathers insisted on getting them vaccinated, none of the younger ones are. She’s said she doesn’t regularly take them for check-ups, to the dentist, to eye doctors, etc.., either, by choice. She refused to quarantine her kids when she was told to after they were exposed to measles (and exposed everyone else they encountered, of course). She *should* have mom guilt, but it’s for all sorts of reasons, not just this one. She has said, repeatedly that she has absolutely zero mothering instinct or desire to have it . That’s not me putting her down, those are her own words (and shows exactly how something can go on for months on end while she brushes it off as nothing).
I do hope it’s benign and from my experience, those typically are benign more often than not. Hopefully his biopsy comes back just fine and they can just remove it quickly. I also hope he doesn’t become the newest fodder for her podcasts. She did recently *insist* she didn’t and doesn’t exploit her kids for money after all.

why are yall acting so upset about her sharing about HER own child medical problems? i get yall don’t like her which is fine but it doesn’t make sense for yall to act so upset about this yet other moms like briana and cheyenne don’t get told the same thing especially when u never know if another mother is going through the same things with their own kids
Exactly. I don’t get it either. No one bats an eye when it’s the other teen mom girls talking about their kids medical issues, especially when they were toddlers. She’s just saying to advocate for your children and get second opinions because sometimes things aren’t what they seem. Which I personally think is relatable and important. I do think that she could have left Rio’s name out of her post to keep his privacy but honestly I’m sure people would have dug around until they figured out which child it was anyway.
I think people are more “upset” because she makes it a point to insist she’s not exploiting her kids or using them to make money, while literally doing exactly that.
Although this kind of thing is likely putting a little too much info out there, and she does at times cross lines parents really shouldn’t, I don’t think the whole “sharing about her family” aspect is the problem. The content and context of that sharing, and the fact that she insists so vehemently that she’s not doing it is what rubs most people the wrong way, imo. She talks out both sides of her mouth, and always has, lol. We all know she exploits them, she knows she exploits them, but continues saying she doesn’t.
Why on Earth, other than for attention for herself, is she posting this, when she doesn’t know a thing.
She shouldn’t be giving out a minor’s medical info and suspected diagnosis. That is an invasion of his privacy. Disgusting!

Why share this? For starters, she doesnt know exactly what it is, so why even mention it? Not to mention, keep your kids and their info, especially medical info out of the public. She sold Issac out so it doesnt surprise me.

Hopefully it’s benign and the little guys is a-ok. But jeez, can this wench keep anything in her life private?! I guess she has to share every intimate detail of her life to keep an audience for the podcasts. Unless it’s something she really doesn’t want to share like moving in a new boo while the bed is still warm from Elijah. But oversharing about a child’s medical issues – no problemo!
