Olivia Plath Reflects on Her ‘Welcome to Plathville’ Exit; Reveals She “Got Out of” Show Contract But Remains Under NDA

“Peace out, Plathville!”

Olivia Plath is opening up about the seven seasons she spent on Welcome to Plathville as her final appearance on the TLC series approaches. While she confirms that she was able to successfully get out of her show contract, Olivia says she remains under a non-disclosure agreement (NDA).

As fans of ‘Welcome to Plathville’ know, Olivia made her debut on the reality series in Season 1 while still married to Ethan Plath. She and Ethan jointly filed for divorce in early 2024 (after separating in 2023) and as a result, Olivia has only made a few appearances on the current season of the Plath family’s show.

Olivia, making one of her (very) few appearances in Season 7…

On Tuesday, Olivia took to Instagram to let viewers know that the final scenes she filmed for the TLC series will air this week, while admitting that she feels “so many emotions” when looking back at the last seven years of her life that she shared on the show.

“In many ways, I grew up with all of you watching and supporting me,” Olivia wrote. “I was a sheltered, newly married, fundie kid when the show started and had no clue who I was. The last 7 years have had their respective challenges and there were definitely moments I didn’t think I’d see the other side, but I’m here to prove myself wrong.”

To sum it up.

Olivia also hinted in her Instagram Story at the ill feelings she has towards Ethan and his family– many of which she has publicly spoken out about in the last year– while reflecting on how different things could have been, as well as how grateful she is that the situation ultimately played out the way it did.

“This chapter brings some sadness – it is sad for me to see who I once knew, what they had the potential to become and the path they chose instead,” she wrote. “It could have been so different. And if it had been different, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Grateful for this journey and all that it taught me.”

As for the scene(s) she appears in that will be featured in this week’s episode, Olivia said the footage was “filmed a while ago” when she was still under contract with the show– something that has since changed.

“ … since then, I’ve worked hard to get out of my contract – and succeeded!” Olivia shared. “I have not only endeavored to distance myself from hate, bullying, but also reported harmful behavior, and tried to stand up for what is right.

“It sickens me to see violence, hatred, and dysfunction presented as entertainment,” she continued, adding later in her post that she still has a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), despite no longer being under contract.

As The Ashley previously told you, Olivia claimed in July that Discovery– the parent company of TLC– had allowed her former mother-in-law, Kim Plath, to negotiate a show contract for her, despite the fact that Olivia was over the age of 18 at the time and not one of Kim’s children. As a result, Olivia said she was not paid for Season 1 of ‘Welcome to Plathville’ and was basically conned by Kim into signing onto the show to begin with.

“What do you want from me? An apology?!”

“My ex-mother-in-law negotiated [the show contract] behind my back and asked them to come shoot my wedding as a pilot, and I found out two weeks beforehand and was told, ‘Sorry, it’s already happening and I’m getting a check for it’ by her,” Olivia claimed, while insisting that she and Ethan initially refused to appear on the show when the offer first came through.

The happy (and contractually obligated) former couple on their wedding day…

While Olivia eventually did sign on to appear on the TLC series, she revealed she was only paid for Season 2 and the seasons that followed after getting a lawyer to renegotiate her contract.

According to People, Olivia opened up about her ‘Welcome to Plathville’ contract on Instagram in May, revealing that she “asked to be released” from it and was awaiting a response. Two months earlier, she had also posted about her NDA, telling fans she was “figuring out” the restrictions while continuing to unpack what she experienced during her time on the TLC series.

New episodes of ‘Welcome to Plathville’ air Tuesdays on TLC.

  1. Worst MIL ever, I bet she demanded control of everything if she was willing to pull that on the wedding. Though I don’t know enough to know how reliable a narrator the girl is either, so take my comment with that grain of salt…

  2. So she dedicated her life to trashing the family ever since her split with Ethan, but doesn’t want to be on the show where she would have direct access to the Plath family’s audience? Sorry, doesn’t ring true for me.
