Tyler Baltierra took a trip down memory lane on Tuesday while recalling the moment he and wife Catelynn Lowell placed their biological daughter Carly for adoption– a decision the Teen Mom dad said didn’t kill him, but left him feeling “dead inside.”
Tyler made the Instagram Reel as part of a social media trend that asks users to “name a day that didn’t kill you but something in you died that day.” After displaying the prompt, Tyler included a few clips of himself and Cate getting emotional while saying goodbye to Carly shortly after her 2009 birth.
Tyler’s post also featured the memorable clip of him and Cate handing over Carly to her adoptive parents, Brandon and Teresa Davis.
“One day that didn’t kill me but I felt dead inside,” he captioned the video. “ … a day that could have been different if things were different… a day that took something from our souls that we will never get back 😢💔😭 #Adoption #BirthParents #Adoptee #Adopted”
As fans of ‘Teen Mom’ know, while Cate and Tyler once had a close relationship with Carly’s parents, things soured over time and in September 2024, Cate revealed that Brandon and Teresa had blocked her– allegedly for sending too many updates and text messages to Carly and her family.
In the months that followed, Cate and Tyler continued to call out Carly’s parents publicly for no longer allowing the 16 year-old to have contact with them or their three daughters.
Despite both Cate and Tyler expressing their frustration over the situation, Tyler stated on Instagram Live last fall that he “wouldn’t do anything legally” in court to get communication with Carly reestablished, as he didn’t believe it would ultimately help. That same month, Tyler revealed on X that he believes Carly’s parents regret their decision to have an open adoption with him and Catelynn.

“I think you’re correct that they regret doing an open adoption just as much as we regret not reading the fine print as a child, having proper representation/protection, & doing enough research (which is difficult when you’re a traumatized child in crisis),” he wrote. “I think it’s safe to say there are regrets on each side.”
Tyler stated numerous times last fall that, because of the situation he and Cate were in at the time, he didn’t regret placing Carly for adoption in 2009; however, he later revealed that he did regret going through an adoption agency to do so.

“ … and I would have picked different parents,” he said. “That’s just the truth.”
While their relationship with Carly continues to be non-existent, both Tyler and Cate have continued to express their frustration with adoption as a whole, with both becoming increasingly more-critical of adoption in recent years, insisting that it needs to be reformed legally.

Enough already! Let’s not forget that Cait didn’t want to give Carly up, but like most teenage girls, she didn’t want to lose her boyfriend. So when you made it clear that she had to choose between you and Carly, she chose you. I wonder how many times she’s regretted that decision? Little boy, your victim card expired a LONG time ago.
STFU. My feelings exactly. Get a job. Develop life skills. Be an example for your other children. Quit being a ridiculous whiny manchild. Have you ever looked at yourself? you look like a teenager. You could have avoided all of this by using a condom. Be a better parent so your other kids don’t get knocked up. And tell your wife to shape up or she is looking ata lifetime of obesity related diseases.
Life goes on and most people have to get a job.
I almost forgot they gave a child up for adoption. Shew, glad he reminded me.
Omg shut the fuck up already! You were 16 and you could read (or I sure hope you could), therefore, you knew that there was ALWAYS a plan for the adoption to close after a certain number of years. Brandon and Theresa gave you WAY more than they were obligated to out of the kindness of their heart, but you went and ruined it by being lazy losers on OnlyFans constantly insulting them for absolutely no reason.
And no shit you won’t pursue legal action, you’d be laughed out of court for trying to claim you have ANY rights for a child that is related to you by blood only who you freaking gave up for adoption. Carly hasn’t been yours since the moment she left Caitlyn’s womb. Get over it and deal with your other children so they don’t turn into lazy messes like you two
