Trent Johnston (Finally) Takes Accountability for Feud with Daughter Anna During ‘7 Little Johnstons’ Season Finale

“Maybe we’re at fault for a tiny part of this feud…but don’t tell Amber I said that!”

Although this season of “7 Little Johnstons” has come to an end, the rift between Anna Johnston and her parents, Amber and Trent, has not.

During Tuesday’s Season 7 finale, though, Trent reflected on his ongoing feud with his daughter and admitted that he and Amber have played a part in Anna remaining estranged from them and the rest of the family.

As The Ashley reported earlier his week, Anna took to TikTok before the finale aired to reveal some behind-the-scenes info on her long-awaited coffee shop scene with her parents, which aired on Tuesday. The three were set to finally meet face-to-face to air out their grievances and establish a plan to help mend their relationship. (As fans know, the feud between Anna and the other Johnstons has been going on for well over a year.)

Throughout the season— which was filmed over a year ago— Anna was absent from various family events, including her niece Leighton’s first birthday, Thanksgiving 2024, and, as shown in the most-recent episodes, Christmas 2024.

Brice looking like he wishes HE was feuding with the family so he could have been excluded from this Christmas buffoonery…

Throughout the season, Amber has been quick to mention that Anna has chosen to exclude herself from the family, something Anna has denied on many occasions. (The Ashley has previously reported that Anna insisted she was not invited to both family Thanksgivings and Leighton’s birthday party, contrary to statements made by Amber and Anna’s sister, Elizabeth.)

Anna and her parents had not shared the screen this year since Trent confronted Anna earlier in the season at her home; telling it was her actions that have caused the hate and “disgruntled-ness” circulating the family.

On Tuesday’s episode, Trent admitted that he “did get a little warm” during his previously confrontation with Anna.

“Maybe it was the visor? I wonder if Kody Brown gets overheated like this?”

Trent also recognized that he “wasn’t the nicest person and clearly that didn’t get me anywhere.”

All three family members vowed that they wouldn’t let the meeting shown on Tuesday’s episode turn into an argument.

“Getting into an argument just makes it escalate and just get worse and worse,” Anna said during a confessional.

Something else that keeps getting worse and worse this season? Amber’s fashion choices…

Although the conversation between Anna and her parents quickly turned confrontational, many fans were surprised to see Trent take some accountability for his role in the feud.

“Reflecting back over this last year in our relationship with Anna,” he said, “[…] I will honestly say, it has not all been Anna’s fault for, maybe, the absence,” he said during a confessional. “There’s been times Amber and I have purposely backed away and never been present.”

“Keep MY name out of your mouth, Trent!”

(This marks this first time this season that either of the parents has acknowledged their part in the feud with Anna.)

One Redditor expressed their shock, writing, “Trent takes accountability. Wow,” while others were quick to show their support for Trent and how he approached this conversation with Anna, despite Amber’s combativeness.

“The first thing I noticed was that Trent really is troubled by [the situation with Anna],” one commenter observed. “Trent says he wants the three of them to work it [out], mend fences… then Amber interjects ‘not mend fences, it has to start with Anna.’ Trent reflected and admitted they have fault in this. Amber takes zero responsibility.”

Others commended Trent for taking the time to “make a point to say he loves [Anna] and misses her,” showing her that the familial connection, at least with her father, has not been severed completely.

Anna has stated that Tuesday’s episode will be the last one she’s featured in, as she has quit filming for “7 Little Johnstons” and says she has no interest in returning, despite the family currently filming for next season.

“She’s not filming anymore? Wait…we can DO that?!”

In the video posted to TikTok this week, Anna stated that since she’s quit filming for the show, her family has made no effort to contact her or try to mend their estrangement.

“[On the show, they’re saying] ‘Let’s act like we’re going to want a relationship with Anna, meet up with Anna.’ THAT IS STRICTLY FOR FILMING!” she claimed. “ … that’s the hardest thing, is they act like on this season that they want a relationship with me and they’re trying and everything, but it’s literally for a storyline …”

  1. I’ve never liked Amber. She’s an evil and retaliatory 🐛 of a person. She’s jealous of Anna because she’s EXCELLED , Jonah, 😄, noooo, Liz 😄, nooooo, THEIR biological kids, 😲

  2. Anna has been this way since she was a child. I imagine there is mental illness in her genetics. I hope they can all come together, but it’s looking less likely.

    1. I was thinking the same thing. Literally, since the first season amber and Anna would butt heads. I honestly believe they need a mutual third party to help them talk it out. In my opinion there is fault on both sides. Anna knows she can always reach out and talk to her family. If not Trent and amber, most definitely her siblings. I agree wholeheartedly that she’s missing out on knowing her niece. She could easily text or call Elizabeth and tell her to bring Leighton by her house. Trant and Amber are wrong too, because it looks like they just gave up on their child and not seeing that she’s clearly struggling with something. They keep going in circles.

    2. It’s because she’s been treated like crap by Amber since she was a child. Amber needs to have her mental illness checked, she clearly has NPD, and favors certain children. She’s had serious animosity towards Anna for a very long time.

  3. I’ve never heard them say what happened to cause the rift but someone needs to be the hero to mend the broken relationship. Trent seems to be trying but all Amber does is attack and blame Anna. Using baby Leighton to guilt trip Anna was hitting below the belt and not at all helpful. I certainly wouldn’t want to be around them with all the ugliness being thrown at Anna. How about trying a hug and an “I’m sorry” Amber.

    1. I don’t watch this show but there’s a family dynamic where someone is the “scape goat” and that person is always blamed for whatever is wrong. It basically gives the family a sacrificial lamb and allows them to avoid looking at themselves. Sounds to me like that might be what’s happening.

      1. Exactly what Anna’s role in this narcissist family dynamic is, and her N mom just disgusts me. Im glad to see Trent step out a little, and I wonder how much grief he was given for stepping out of line. I hope he can put his duty as a father first, maybe Amber could shut her trap and listen for once.

Better yet Trent can have a relationship with Anna without Ambers involvement. Not that Amber would allow that.

  4. The show should be cancelled and they can get real jobs, instead of being fake when it comes to Anna. I feel bad for her and what they have put her through.
