Kendra Duggar’s Arrest Reportedly Due to Her & Husband Joseph Allegedly Locking Their Kids in Their Rooms (Report)

His ‘n’ Her Mugshots, suitable for framing…

File this under “Report,” as The Ashley has not been able to independently confirm or deny this story as or press time.

Us Weekly is providing more alleged details regarding the shocking arrest of former Counting On star Kendra Duggar on Friday.

As The Ashley reported, Kendra— along with her husband Joseph Duggareach received four charges on Friday of second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor, as well as four counts of second-degree false imprisonment. Kendra was arrested and booked into the Washington County Jail in Arkansas. (Joe was already in jail, due to his being charged earlier this week for child molestation for an alleged incident that occurred in Florida in 2020.)

According to Us Weekly, Kendra and Joe’s home in Arkansas was searched after his arrest for child molestation, leading Arkansas investigators to find something disturbing inside the house that led to Kendra’s arrest and Joe’s additional charges.

“After his charge, they automatically do a home study if minors live there. They came to her house,” the magazine’s source stated. “Apparently, they had two rooms where the lock of the doorknob was on the outside instead of inside.

“They arrested her and took her kids for that, saying it’s evidence that she wrongly detains her kids,” the source added.

Kendra and Joe each received four counts of each alleged crime. As ‘Counting On’ fans are aware, Kendra and Joe share four young children. However, it is unknown at this time if their children are the alleged victims.

Kendra’s parents, as well as Joe’s parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, have yet to release statements regarding Kendra and Joe’s arrest. However, on Saturday, a spokesperson for the Duggar family did confirm that Kendra’s charges have nothing to do with Joe’s child molestation charges out of Florida.

“[Kendra’s] is a misdemeanor charge totally unrelated to the Florida case,” the Duggar spokesperson stated to Us Weekly.

“It is ridiculous as the media reports imply she’s involved in Joseph’s alleged crime,” the source told the magazine“Totally unrelated and a harsh response.”

“Just because a couple of our kids are in jail on child sex crimes charges, doesn’t mean we should be judged!”

Kendra and Joe’s charge of second-degree false imprisonment is a Class A misdemeanor. It’s significant that they were not charged with first-degree false imprisonment (which is a Class C felony), which means that their alleged actions did not “expose the victim to a risk of serious injury.”

That is the difference between someone being charged with first-degree and second-degree false imprisonment.

Because Kendra and Joe received a second-degree charge, it means that they allegedly “knowingly restrained another” person, but doing so did not expose the alleged victim(s) to a risk of serious injury.

The penalty for second-degree false imprisonment can be up to a year in jail and up to $2,500 in fines.

Something tells me that these two won’t fare too well in jail…

As for the second-degree “endangering the welfare of a minor” charges, Arkansas law states that “a person commits the offense of endangering the welfare of a minor in the second degree if he or she knowingly engages in conduct creating a substantial risk of serious harm to the physical or mental welfare of another person known by the person to be a minor.”

As The Ashley reported, Joe’s cousin Amy Duggar has been making the media rounds. In an interview with TMZ on Saturday, she expressed her shock about Kendra getting arrested and the kids being taken from her.

“I’m stunned, y’all!”

“I think that was a plot twist that no one saw coming,” Amy told the site, adding that she issued her first statement— which contained supportive words for Kendra— before she found out about Kendra’s arrest and the couple’s new charges.

“There’s a lot of question marks right now,” Amy said regarding the couple’s Arkansas charges. “…I had no idea.”

“…I loved Joe. I loved Kendra,” Amy continued, stating that she and others are hoping that the charges aren’t related to something very serious. “But the fact that Child Protective Services have taken the kids, that sentence alone shows the severity of the situation. And that’s just where my heart lies.”

The Ashley will continue to update this story. Stay tuned…

  1. Amy has ridden off the coat tails of the duggars since day 1 of the show airing. She is attention seeking and always has been. She was always the loudest on the show and was always wanting Uncle Jim Bob when they were filming a segment him. She should make sure her back yard is clean before judging others. Karma has a way of things coming back to you when judging others. As for locking dogs in crates, I think its.absolutely disgusting, disgraceful and cruel. A lady on Facebook said she had bought a staffy 3 days prior and it kept stressing when put in the crate and wanted to.know what she should do, she was 8 weeks old and traumatised enough from leaving home and her siblings. A staffy of all breeds who think they are humans and they hate not being around them or being left alone at home. So I told her if she couldn’t include the dog into the family then she should do the poor dog a favour and take her back to her breeder for the sake of the dogs mental health. She obviously did zero homework when she choose her. Crates should be banned.

  2. I hope the people who dont understand why it’s a safety issue to lock your kids in a bedroom at night dont have children. The reason these children weren’t harmed is because Joe and Kendra thankfully havent had a house fire.Michelle admitted on national television that she and rin job locked the kids in their bedrooms at night after Josh touched the girls.

    1. Yeah I know several parents who do this – mostly to prevent young kids from escaping during nap time, getting into stuff or wandering away from the house. I don’t think they realize it’s illegal.

    1. A few of the DuggarSnark crew who do home visits really don’t buy it and neither do I. To charge them rather than attempt to correct the behavior (if it is the locks) seems aggressive. I would think the reason for the arrests (and potentially taking the kids, which no one has confirmed) would be more presently endangering the kids.

  3. Annnnnd Jenelle still has her kids.
Make THAT make sense, CPS! She & UBT actively do the opposite of parenting at least 3 children!

Surely there’s more to this story? Perhaps the poor kids told truthful tales on Ma & Pa J’s parenting? Or the cops found the kids actively locked away during their visit?

    1. My aunt and uncle did this to my cousins. I wasn’t aware it is now illegal, but it’s good that it it – huge fire hazard.

  4. Cops clearly used this to get temporary custody of the kids, in a setting away from parents/family, so they can be questioned by specialists to find out if they’ve been SA’d by their Dad. Let’s hope they haven’t…

  5. My ex husband locked my son in his room and I called cps and they didn’t care, they didn’t even question him

    1. If the kids were found locked up just hours/days after the dad was arrested for SA of a minor, that would tip it over.

    2. Yeah it seems like usually CPS gives a warning about this kind of stuff, if at all. My parents did far worse to my brother and I as kids and no one intervened .

I’m surprised Kendra was arrested. She definitely needs to be educated about child safety, but I guess we will have to wait and find out more information.

      Jenelle should be in prison.

  6. Amy’s been a hanger on and grifter from day one. She pretty much forced herself on the show and tried to make it all about her….and she still is. I never really thought much about her until all the Josh stuff and it’s like ok we get it. Stfu already

  7. This is not surprising, the Duggars have been doing this for decades, like blanket training. It’s disgusting and dangerous

  8. I have to think there is more to this. Finding two doorknobs with locks on the outside is very flimsy evidence of anything. If they arrested Kendra and took the kids, there must have been something else, like the kids actually being locked inside or at least telling the police that their parents lock them in.

    1. I agree. I mean, I don’t have kids but I could see some parents reversing the door lock on their child’s door just purely for safety so the kid doesn’t accidently or purposely lock themselves in the room and the parent can’t get in. But surely they interviewed the kids and they said they were locked in. Like someone said up above, we have people like Jenelle who still has her kids and to take these kids because of a door lock seems not likely. But who knows, cps isn’t consistent across the board anyways.

    2. We turned our now adult son’s lock on the opposite side because he would get mad and lock himself into his room, then PANIC. I didn’t even think about someone coming into our home and wondering if we were imprisoning him. This seems like a way to get the kids out for a proper investigation as that does seem a bit flimsy.

Then again, Duggar history and child rearing looks MUCH different than it does for most of us out there. I just recently learned what “blanket training” was and I am just sickened by it all.

  9. Isn’t this the same as what people are doing to dogs with crates? And before anyone comes at me I find this absolutely disgusting for both children and dogs, people have become to lazy to parent their children or train their dogs

    1. Some dogs like being crated. It’s a similar situation to a den. But you’re absolutely right. You can’t just shove your dog in a crate without teaching it that the crate is a safe place. Worse is dogs being chained up outside their entire lives.

      1. I am a animal vet and I would definitely prefer them outside in a safe environment than locked in a crate, it can cause UTI’s dehydration and bowel issues! Yes some dogs enjoy a den environment but not for hours at a time

  10. I know a lot of people who have some kind of external lock to keep escape artist kids safe overnight. Whether it’s a fire hazard is one thing, but I have a hard time believing that on its own would lead to arrest or children removed.

    1. I mean, locking your children into their bedrooms at night isn’t exactly defensible either.
We had one son, who is now an adult, who would get mad and lock himself in his room. Then he would panic. We switched his knob and went about life. At no point did we use it to contain him in his room but it was reversed for safety.

Very interested in seeing what else comes out about her arrest. There is clearly more that they’re keeping close to the chest.

  11. Of course Amy keeps speaking out, it gets her in the media and in front of the camera. She was all over the media when Josh was arrested too. I like how honest she is about certain things but that’s about it.

I was hoping the lock thing was just rumors. Speaking of which, are they also searching the Big House as well?

    1. It’d be more of a story if Amy stfu and didn’t say a word. For someone who doesn’t want anything to do with the family, she sure has a lot to say.

    2. Wouldn’t that be nice if they raided the Big House? Jim Bob is surely hiding things at his many properties. I bet he will eventually be brought down on some financial crime.

  12. Wait, were the kids locked in the rooms when the cops came? If not, I have a hard time thinking they arrested her solely because the locks were on the outside?

    1. There is definitely more to this than we are being told. I have a feeling a lot is going to come out about them and another sibling soon.

  13. The whole family is sick and Amy needs to just shut up already. She’s a wack job like the rest of them.

    1. I mean in family of abusive pedophiles, annoying people aren’t really an issue to me?

And i mean, has she been wrong on this stuff?

      1. I think people are just sensing her desperation to be relevant. She’s stated many times she wants to not be associated with this family but the moment any duggar is in the news she is the first one to give interviews and make videos. It just reeks of insincerity to a lot of people even if she’s not wrong about the subject.

        1. I can get that, i only see her pop up when the others are arrested for horrible ish. But i def have my BEC, like DrDrew. (Bish eating crackers)

          Thanks for the heads up.

      2. Right? It seems Amy gets more negative and hateful comments than JimBob, Michelle, Anna or any of the Duggars, honestly. I don’t get it. She was a part of their show as well and has a duty to speak out because of that. She helped promote their lifestyle to everyone like it was wholesome and good and it wasn’t.

But at the same time, it’s no different than Tyler and Caitlyn getting more hate than Jenelle and Amber. Someone actually posted the other day that Tyler was the worst parent from Teen Mom, which was shocking. He turned out to be the most involved dad from Teen Mom from what I can tell. But who knows. People, in general, seem to not like those who speak up against unjust systems, norms, and people who exploit and harm other people.

        1. These stories of abuse in her family, which are highly tied to the religious cult they were all raised in, are more likely to keep in the news and get more than just a passing headline at the bottom of the screen, if there’s a family member (or anyone close) willing to be interviewed. Now your televised piece or written article are much more “interesting” because they contain personal interest and someone willing to say emotional and scandalous stuff.

I get why she does it.

      3. She has been wrong and has pushed speculation as it is what actually happened, when it appears that she hasn’t had any meaningful contact with anyone in the family but Jill for a number of years.
She also keeps making media rounds with her book plugged verbally and in the background. If you’re really just doing this to bring light to child abuse and show the family for who they are, you don’t need to plug yourself or your book to grift. It’s gross.

  14. At this point throw the whole family away and get the kids to safety these people are all freaks.

      1. I think she probably feels validated every time it’s something bad and she’s the first one to be like, “see, I told you all there was something bad going on.” But it just comes off as desperate to be relevant.
