The most-recent episode of Unexpected caused some viewers’ jaws to drop— and others to express their disgust at the parents of 15-year-old Bella Vaughn after they seemed unbothered that their teen daughter was discussing how her 13-year-old boyfriend Hunter Johnson wants to have “butt sex.”
No…seriously. (The Ashley will be right back…she needs to go bathe in Lysol after watching this scene.)
During Monday’s episode of ‘Unexpected,’ a producer asked Bella (as well as her sister Emi, who became a teen mom just weeks after Bella did) how they planned to prevent another teen pregnancy. Bella– who had just given birth to her son Wesley— stated that she could use condoms and possibly ovulation tests, but seemed unsure that she would actually use either method. Bella’s parents, Kris and Falen, both suggested birth control, but her mom Falen admitted that Bella “refuses” to get on birth control due to what she calls the “stupid” side effects.
When Bella’s dad Kris suggested that his 15-year-old daughter simply refrain from having any more sex with her 13-year-old boyfriend, Bella suggested a different— and extremely shocking— strategy to prevent pregnancy.
“Hunter would love to do butt sex because he thinks that is a way to prevent pregnancy and he doesn’t want to wear a condom,” she tells the camera, right in front of her parents. “But we’re not doing anal sex. That is a one-way poop chute.”
Despite the fact that their teen daughter is discussing having anal sex with her barely pubescent boyfriend, Falen and Kris hardly appeared shocked. In fact, Bella’s mom giggled, obviously finding the conversation funny.
‘Unexpected’ viewers had a lot to say about Bella’s parents being unfazed by the disturbing topic of conversation, with many fans taking to social media to express how uncomfortable they felt just watching the scene.
When a clip of the scene was posted to @TheTLCUnexpected Instagram page, viewers expressed their disgust at both the parents and the network, TLC, for airing it.

“The parents’ reaction tells me everything,” one person wrote. “Her dad needs to man up and start putting boundaries and rules in place otherwise Baby No. 2 will be here soon!”
“I’m so disgusted,” another person commented.
Viewers also took to X to discuss the jaw-dropping scene.
“Did we really need to hear about a 13-year-old boy wanting anal sex, TLC? So inappropriate,” one viewer wrote.
“Falen is something else!” another X user wrote. “The way she condones Bella and Hunter’s relationship is so odd to me! Why did she have his cell and not his own mom? Why you allowing a 15 yr old to talk about anal, right beside you and giggling?! Sick! Be a mother.”
During an earlier episode of ‘Unexpected,’ Bella mentioned that Hunter (who was only 12 years old when their son Wesley was conceived) wanted to have sex constantly during Bella’s pregnancy
“All he wants to do is have sex!” Bella told her mom during an episode that aired in February. “Because I’m not going to get pregnant again! I’m already pregnant!”
Bella and Hunter (as well as Bella’s family) have already caused a lot of controversy, since Season 7 began airing. They’ve faced plenty of scrutiny, causing them to defend themselves on TikTok Live several times.
“Hunter is a father! Just because he was 12 [when he got me pregnant], he turned 13 a few days later!” Bella said in a video posted to TikTok in January. “I understand it doesn’t make it any better. I understand. He was sexually ready faster than I was, and that’s OK. But I was ready when we had sex.”
She also defended her parents during the TikTok rant, insisting her mom and dad did what they could to prevent her from getting pregnant.
“My parents are great parents,” she said. “They have done everything for me. They support, they take care of me, they help me take care of my kid because I am a teen. I can’t do every single thing right now but they support me in every single way.”
She also disputed that it was her parents’ fault that she got pregnant at 14.
“I knew right from wrong,” she said. “I knew I was doing wrong. It’s not a parenting issue when a teen gets pregnant always…”

This is… FOUL. I’m 42 and I don’t think I could even say the full word Anal sex in front of my mother… I was 14, almost 15 (Looking back I think I was way too young) when I lost my virginity, but I was adamant about using protection at all costs. Once I was 16, I had a steady boyfriend that I would consider myself sexually active with and I went to planned parenthood myself and got on birth control. My parents didn’t openly talk about sex with me, but they didn’t act like it wasn’t a possibility. I don’t necessarily believe always that parents have to do with a teen getting pregnant- but in this case? I see that they absolutely played a role. I have twin 13 year old sons and they both have girlfriends. I in NO way condone them being sexually active- when their girlfriends are over the doors to their room stay open and there HAS to be an adult at home, PERIOD. I have told them MANY times, I sincerely hope they wait and that they do NOT want a reputation at school for themselves OR the girls they are worth. They are young- 13 is WAY too young. If they do engage eventually down the road, I have emphasized that they HAVE to use protection because they do NOT want a child right now. I’ve also mentioned Plan B. I’ve also told them that in the future, if they become sexually active, that I am absolutely on board with buying preventative measures for them and that if they had a girlfriend with parents who refuse to approach the subject, I would be willing to discuss things with her too. We have spoken about sex because it’s important to discuss- almost all the girls I knew that were pregnant in our teen years, had parents that were overly strict and thought of sex as taboo. I am open to discussing it with them but to be openly talking about alternative ways of having sex with your mate, in front of your parents is just gross. I certainly would not be a mom laughing about it.

These parents need to step up and actually parent instead of just being friends with their kids. Otherwise their daughters are going to end up with multiple kids before turning 18.
She’ll be getting pregnant again very soon. TLC is disgusting for airing this. Her parents are disgusting for allowing it and not stopping this shit. Hopefully his father gains full custody and is able to keep him away from these groomers. Genuine question, if his father gains custody and he isn’t able to see Bella, can Hunter fight for custody of his son? Or how that does that work since he’s 13?
I suppose it would be similar to custody arrangements where one parent has a restraining order against the other but there aren’t restrictions on seeing the kids.
“Not see Bella” full stop seems a bit extreme, though. No overnights, or just not unsupervised by an adult who isn’t one of Bella’s parents seems more appropriate. The major issue is that they’re too young to be having sex and are extremely irresponsible about it. Doesn’t seem to be any actual safety issues.

No. She’s an immature boy crazy girl with a VERY horny 12 year boy acting out over unstable situation with his parents. HER parents knew she was boy crazy since she was 7 (her statement), so I call out bad parenting. They were young parents themselves, but married before having kids, with a cute love story. I think Bella felt she was recreating it EXCEPT for the finish school and get married first part 🥴🙄.
Hunter had more stability living w/his dad. Producers, his ex-wife, and Falen are making him look bad b/c he was against filming this stuff.

It’s not actively moderated in the way that reddit is, but there is a limit. Comments have been deleted in the past. Bella is definitely a predator, despite it being learned behavior. Children are perfectly capable of being predators too, and in some cases, it’s due to them being someone else’s prey at one time or another. In some cases it’s just learned behavior from watching the adults around them.
