It’s over for Amya and Jose, but things are just getting started for Amya and Janae!
In a preview for next week’s episode of Unexpected, teen mom Amya reveals to viewers that she and Jose, the father of her son Sammy, broke up and she is now in a relationship with a girl named Janae.
Although Amya didn’t comment on her relationship in the preview, Jose– who is still living with Amya and her mom, Misty “Mama G” Georgeff– reveals that he feels “lonely” now that Amya is always out with her girlfriend.
After the preview for next week’s episode aired on Monday, Amya and her mom took to TikTok Live to give viewers some more details about the couple’s first breakup, Amya’s current relationship, and how Jose feels about the new situation.
“Jose broke up with me on my mom’s birthday,” Amya said. “[Right at 12] when it hit my mom’s birthday, he broke up with me while I was in California on vacation.
“And I was pregnant and I didn’t even know it!” Amya continued, later confirming that she and Jose first broke up “back in July [of 2024]” when she was pregnant with their son, Sammy. Amya claimed that Jose broke up with her at the time due to “an outfit [she] wore on vacation.”
“I remember I told him, ‘If you can’t handle being with a baddie, don’t be with a baddie,’” she recounted. “He broke up with me that night. He really took that to heart, I fear.”
Amya explained that after she returned to her home in Las Vegas, she and Jose reconciled before finding out she was pregnant with Sammy. At this time, she has not revealed the cause of her and Jose’s latest breakup, though fans speculate that it has something to do with the unequal division of labor at home, which the young parents have discussed on the show.
When asked about her coparenting situation with Jose, Amya claimed that it’s working out for them and that insists that they are “better as friends than [they] were together.”
“I’m not going to say that we hated each other,” she explained. “But, the arguments we had on the show were a lot worse than that off camera.”
Amya went on to address comments from fans who claim that she “didn’t deserve Jose,” by revealing that there was infidelity– presumably on Jose’s side– in the relationship.
“I didn’t deserve to be cheated on multiple times and keep going back to him and get broken up with on my mom’s birthday while I was pregnant either!” Amya stated.
Mama G and Jose also appeared on TikTok Live together to confirm that there’s no bad blood between Jose, Amya and Janae.
“Jose gets along very well with Janae, they’re like buddies,” Mama G said. “They’re good friends, OK? So there’s no animosity, Jose’s not upset about it, they’re not in a throuple!”
Jose assured fans that he doesn’t “want to be in the middle of [their] drama” and claims he’s still living with his ex and her mother in order to be there for his son.
“I’m not here to f**king watch Amya and what she’s doing,” he said. “If [Amya does] right by me, I’ll do right by her. If she don’t do nothing to Sammy, I won’t do nothing to her.”
All parties maintain that there is no animosity, with Amya summing up her current life in a few simple words: “I’m a baddie, I had a glow-up, life’s great.”
Following Monday’s episode, Mama G took to social media to address some of the recent rumors circulating about Amya and Jose, including the speculation that Jose was a “sperm donor” for Amya and Janae.
“Jose was not used as a sperm donor for [Amya] and her girlfriend,” Mama G stated. “[Amya] didn’t even meet her girlfriend until way later, after Sammy was months old. Even [in the Mother’s Day scenes on ‘Unexpected’], she hadn’t met her girlfriend yet. So please, stop with the accusations, ‘cause they’re getting ridiculous.”
Mama G assured fans that Amya and Jose are both “loved” and “cared for,” and that they’re both great parents to Sammy.
“They are coparenting the best that they can and that’s all that matters to me,” she added.
Mama G also gave her daughter credit for being the “first openly lesbian, bisexual” cast member to appear on ‘Unexpected,’ noting that it “took a lot of courage” for Amya to share the details of her personal life with viewers.
