American Idol Season 8: A Tough Act to Follow

Don't worry Tim, at least you'll always have your Cabbage Patch Kid looks.

Sorry Tim Urban, but you’ve got your work cut out for you.

Let’s face it: there was no American Idol season like last year’s Season 8. The contestants hit a major high note (some Adam Lambert pun intended), and the range of talent was especially good. Which brings me to the question…

What the hell happened this year?

“If I’m being honest” (the famous line Simon usually starts a really nasty critique with) the guys this year wouldn’t even have made it through Hollywood week last year. Some people are saying that this year is the best Idol has ever been in terms of talent.

But I ask you this…if you wheel out the mulleted Alex Lambert and pit him in a challenge of vocals against the similarly named, yet insanely more talented Adam Lambert, it would be sad and embarrassing to say the least.

True, Adam is other worldly in his vocal talent. Say what you want about him, but sista can sing. Don’t believe me? Check out this clip of Adam performing in the Ten Commandments, pre-Idol. It absolutely floored me.
Fast forward to about the 2:35 mark to hear him really get rolling. Simply amazing.

While I do enjoy the style of Mexican-guy-with neck tattoo, as well as the blonde-haired Brad Pitt look-alike, I think it’s safe to say that the guys of 2010 American Idol are way out of their league. But who isn’t when compared to the singing God that is Adam Lambert!?
