This Is Us star and fan favorite Chrissy Metz shares a lot with her character, Kate Pearson. Like Kate, Chrissy has a new relationship and a new job, as well as a plan to drop some major pounds. However, Chrissy’s weight loss plan may involve reality TV!
The plus-size actress recently told Marie Claire that she has tried many times to lose weight and has struggled, a lot like Kate has. This time though, she says, she wants to try a more practical approach, focusing on healthy meals and balanced nutrition.
In addition, Chrissy says she’d be open to something a bit more vigorous:
“I would love to go on The Biggest Loser, where it’s a concentrated thing…I carry a lot of my weight in my stomach,” she said. “I just want to have…not even a number, but to have my body in a different shape.”
“I do want to lose weight, but not because anyone is telling me to do it,” she added.
Chrissy wouldn’t be the first celebrity to sweat it out on the reality show. Former American Idol winner Ruben Studdard competed on ‘The Biggest Loser,’ as have Survivor winner Richard Hatch and several Olympic athletes.
Unfortunately, though, it doesn’t look like Chrissy will be getting her wish to be a ‘Biggest Loser’ any time soon. The show has been on hiatus for over a year, and it doesn’t look like it is coming back any time soon. Over the past few years, the show has had a lot of negative press. Last year, a study revealed that the former ‘Biggest Loser’ contestants suffered a permanent slowing of their metabolism, due to the way they lost weight on the show.
The show has been off the air since 2016, and with trainer Bob Harper recovering from a recent heart attack, a return in the near future seems unlikely. (However, NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt did tell The Ashley and other journalists at a 2016 TCA discussion that the hiatus “doesn’t mean [the show] is over completely.”)
That means there’s still a chance Chrissy could find her way to ‘The Biggest Loser,’ which she says would help her make healthier choices.
“I believe that if we haven’t learned our lessons, they will continue to come and circle back around,” she told the magazine. “Obviously I haven’t figured it out with food.”
