John Legend To Join ‘The Voice’ Coaching Panel For Season 16: Says He Hopes “The World Is Ready For #TeamJL!”

“See ya in the spring!”

There will be a new occupant of a Big Red Chair next spring!

NBC announced on Thursday that singer John Legend will join the coaching panel of The Voice for the show’s 16th season. John will join a coaching panel that already consists of mainstays Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, as well as singer Kelly Clarkson.

In a press release, Paul Telegdy, the President of NBC’s Alternative and Reality Group, explained why John was chosen to coach.

“John Legend is a one-of-a-kind musician and producer with remarkable skills that are beyond measure,” he said. “His multi-dimensional career and incredible talents provide a repertoire that will excite and inspire our artists. This coaching panel is sure to ignite Season 16.”

John also released a statement about his new gig.

“I’m thrilled to join the coaches of ‘The Voice,'” John said. “I’ve been a guest and mentor on the show multiple times and I’m so excited to discover talented singers and help them make the most of their gift. I hope the world is ready for #TeamJL.”

“We’re gonna have a blast!”

John’s fans will have to wait a while to see him on ‘The Voice,’ though. The show’s 15th season– which will feature Adam, Blake, Kelly and Jennifer Hudson on the coaching panel– is set to premiere later this month.

News of John joining ‘The Voice’ comes just a few days after it was announced that a new coach and element will be added to Season 15. Earlier this week, NBC revealed that singer Kelsea Ballerini will appear on the show as a mentor to six contestants who failed to get any chairs to turn for them during their Blind Audition. Kelsea will mentor the six singers, who will compete against each other in a ‘Comeback Stage’ digital series for a spot in the show’s Top 13. (Think “Redemption Island” for ‘The Voice’…)

Season 15 of ‘The Voice’ premieres September 24, while Season 16 (featuring John Legend) is set to air in the Spring of 2019.
