Netflix’s New Reality Show ‘Love on the Spectrum’ Follows Young Adults on the Autism Spectrum Who Are Looking for Love: Watch the Official Trailer

Lookin’ fresh and lookin’ for love!

Netflix’s new documentary series Love on the Spectrum will follow young adults on the autism spectrum as they explore dating, love and relationships and all of the challenges that come with it.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the new reality show will follow seven singles entering into the dating world, armed with help from their families as well as experts who provide practical skills to help navigate the often confusing experience that is modern dating.

The show will also follow the success stories of couples Ruth and Thomas, and Jimmy and Sharnae, whose experiences can provide inspiration to others looking for love.

“What’s the most important thing in life? Many people would answer: LOVE. There is a common misconception that people on the autism spectrum are not interested in relationships or romance,” said Series Director Cian O’Cleary. “From my experience, this simply isn’t true.

“In making television series about disability over the years, I have spoken to many young adults on the autism spectrum as well as families, job coaches, psychologists and autism organizations. One thing really stood out for me [was that] so many people on the spectrum were wanting to find love, but many had never even been on a date in their lives. When you speak to a large number of people whose main desire in life is to have a partner and they haven’t even been on a date, something isn’t right.”

We’ll drink to that!

Cian said, as a storyteller, there was an opportunity to “explore this issue by shining a light on the struggles many people on the spectrum face in seeking out meaningful relationships.”

“I hope this series will start conversations, help bring about understanding and acceptance and ultimately inspire people with autism, their families and society at large to find ways to help people on the spectrum find love,” he added.

‘Love on the Spectrum’ arrives on Netflix July 22. Check out the official trailer below!

  1. I really dislike theese type of shows. Spectrum people are not aliens and don’t need to be put in a category all on their own. That is to make them aliens.

  2. So…I won’t go into details but I did date someone on the spectrum. And you know what? That time we were together was the best time of my life! It also took a lot of work so that’s probably why our paths ended amicably. We have established a great “ex-partners friendship” so there’s no bad blood between us, it was just our time to end it few years back.

And yes, they DO WANT and are capable of love, probably even more than us “normal people!”

  3. People with autism deserve love and happiness, it’s about time that is recognized. I’ll definitely watch this!
