Dying for a swamp update!
I’m confused. I thought a step dad was when someone marries someone with children and this person becomes their step dad. I always thought if the people get divorced you are no longer their step dad. According to the article, Travis Barker continues to be a step dad to Oscar de la Hoya’s daughter. Can someone explain?
Many people look at it as, you don’t divorce kids. If you helped raise them and served in that role and will continue to be in their life, you’re still a parent even if you’re not married to their parent. That’s how it is amongst my friends and family anyway.
He became her step father when she was very young & has always treated her like his own. Her dad Oscar DLH has even spoken out about how great of a dad Travis has been since he was an absentee father himself. 🥹
Travis Barker seems like he is good to the kids. I didn’t know Oscar was so absent in this situation. Sad.
Yeah, technically he *isnt* her step-dad any longer, since he and Shanna are no longer married, but I believe they had a good relationship as he helped raise her as a kid, so they remain close. My step dad passed away years ago, but I still refer to his neice and nephews as my cousins and talk to them regularly, as I consider them my family. I think it’s kinda cool that they have that bond.
Yea that’s nice when someone can step in and be family to children when they aren’t biologically related. That’s special.
