Trash Talk, Tears, Ticking Time Bombs & An Elimination Twist: Watch ‘The Challenge 40: Battle of the Eras’ Official Super Trailer

Four Eras, 40 Challengers, one unforgettable season.

The Challenge 40: Battle of the Eras premieres next week, bringing together 40 veteran competitors from the last 26 years of The Challenge, each representing one of four “eras.”

This week, MTV released the official super trailer for the new season, which, despite being the show’s 40th season, is promising to be “a whole new game.”

“I’m just waiting for some of these ticking time bombs to explode,” one Challenger says in the trailer, with another adding, “This is the season to take big swings.”

LITERAL “big swings,” apparently…

In the trailer, viewers get a glimpse of the Challengers going head-to-head not only in competition, but in the ‘Challenge’ house as well, with cast members arguing, breaking down in tears, throwing insults and some, “burning bridges left and right.”

Bring on the breakdowns…and bandages, apparently…

The chaos continues when host TJ Lavin reveals the Season 40 twist, seemingly very early on in the competition.

“Just in case you haven’t guessed yet, half of you are going to see an elimination tonight,” TJ tells the visibly stunned group.

TJ’s gonna TJ.

(As The Ashley previously told you, ‘The Challenge 40: Battle of the Eras’ will reportedly kick off with a cast competition at the “Era Invitational,” during which the weakest links from each of the four Eras will be eliminated and the top performers will earn a spot on their team and move on in the competition.)

“It’s a whole new game, buddy,” Jordan Wiseley says of the upcoming season.

Era 1–- which includes Brad Fiorenza, Jodi Weatherton, Aneesa Ferreira, Rachel Robinson, Darrell Taylor, Mark Long, Katie Cooley, Derrick Kosinski, CT Tamburello and Tina Barta-– is entering the competition with confidence, with Rachel telling viewers, “We are the backbone of this franchise.”

“We’re the ones that started it all,” Mark says, to which Brad adds, “Enough said.”

Era 1 came to play…AND serve face.

Era 2 is made up of Ryan Kehoe, Emily Schromm, Johnny Bananas, Brandon Nelson, Nehemiah Clark, KellyAnne Judd, Laurel Stuckey, Aviv Melmed, Derek Chavez and Cara Maria Sorbello. In the trailer, viewers see at least four of the Challengers from Era 2 involved in cast conflict– some amongst their own teammates.

Era 3 includes Leroy Garrett, Jonna Mannion, Cory Wharton, Tori Deal, Devin Walker, Averey Dressler, Tony Raines, Jordan Wiseley, Nia Moore and Amanda Garcia. While Era 3 isn’t lacking potential, even its team members can acknowledge that the Season 40 competition is tough.

Cory, appreciating his cushy spot on ‘Teen Mom’ now more than ever.

“These eras are stacked,” Cory admits in the trailer.

Era 4–- which is made up of Kaycee Clark, Kyland Young, Josh Martinez, Paulie Calafiore, Theo Campbell, Horacio Gutierrez, Jenny West, Michele Fitzgerald, Olivia Kaiser and Nurys Mateo–- is ready to make a name for itself in Season 40.

“We have brains, beauty and brawn,” Nurys says of Era 4, before sending a message to the other Eras. “You’re only the best until someone better comes along.”

…potentially via boat.

In the trailer, CT predicts Season 40 “is gonna get spicy,” considering there is “a lot of history” and “a lot of trash talk.”

“We’re all here because we know the game,” Cara Maria says of the Season 40 cast. “… [But] the game has changed.”

“You have NEVER seen a battle like this before,” TJ adds.

‘The Challenge 40: Battle of the Eras’ premieres August 14 on MTV. Watch the official Super Trailer below.
