Olivia Plath Talks About the “Emotionally Incestuous” Plath Siblings, Her Remorse About Her Treatment of Lydia Plath & More

“I couldn’t recommend a Plath-less life more!”

Nearly two years after calling it quits with husband Ethan Plath, former Welcome to Plathville star Olivia Plath continues to reflect on her five-year marriage, as well as the relationships she once had with Ethan’s family.

On a recent episode of the Fan or Fanatic podcast, the 27-year-old opened up to host Lori Altermann about the years she spent in the Plath family, the way she feels about her in-laws today and how she considered ending her marriage to Ethan shortly after it began.

Here are five interesting things Olivia revealed on the podcast:

1. Olivia knew soon after marrying Ethan that their marriage might not work out.

During the podcast, Olivia revealed that she considered filing for divorce from Ethan after just a year of marriage. When she conveyed this information to her pastor father, Olivia claims he told her, “If you get divorced that will break God’s heart and that will break my heart.”

“Well, as long as you and God are OK, dad…”

Olivia said now that she’s deconstructed religion, she has fallen out of contact with her religious parents. She also noted on the podcast that she’s only in contact with one of her nine siblings.

2. Olivia believes Moriah and Micah “went through some really traumatic s**t.”

Despite Olivia and Moriah Plath once being close, Olivia expressed concern on the podcast about her former sister-in-law’s wellbeing, claiming that she witnessed the 23-year-old’s “slow decline.”

“I think there are a lot of people who are not well and you’ll never convince them of that,” she said of Moriah. “They’ll have to seek help for themselves and I don’t think that she will. It’s honestly really sad because I knew her as a different person and I saw the slow decline, and it’s just been really sad.”

Olivia also weighed in on an alleged rumor that Moriah and brother Micah Plath “have a thing” with each other.

“Well THIS is awkward.”

“I know the rumor,” Olivia said. “I have sometimes wondered myself. But what I will say is when they grew up, they had no friends. They only had each other as siblings and they went through some really traumatic s**t together. And I think that it bonded all of them in a somewhat weird, enmeshed way.”

Olivia added that she believes Moriah and Micah are “emotionally incestuous,” not actually incestuous.

3. Olivia regrets the way she used to treat Lydia.

While ‘Welcome to Plathville’ fans watched recently as Ethan, Micah and Micah’s former girlfriend Veronica Peters made a mockery of Zac Wyse’s proposal to Lydia Plath, Olivia said seeing clips of the trio’s behavior only made her regret her own behavior towards Lydia.

“We’ll drink (chocolate milk) to that!”

“When I first was married to Ethan and a part of that family, we always saw her as the tattletale,” Olivia explained, admitting that she would never include Lydia in her and Ethan’s plans.

Olivia also noted that hearing her former sister-in-law say publicly that Zac is the first person to ever listen to her makes her feel sad for Lydia.

4. Olivia stands by everything she’s said publicly about her ex-husband and his family.

Olivia has recently become very vocal regarding how allegedly hateful and crooked the Plaths are behind-the-scenes of their TLC series and she has also taken to social media to call out her ex-husband’s extremely disturbing behavior. When asked if she feels vindicated now that some of the darker sides of the Plath family have come to light, Olivia maintained that she has proof to back up anything she’s ever said about the Plaths.

“Sorry not sorry, Kim & Co!”

“Everything I’ve ever said publicly, I have a receipt for it,” she said.

Olivia also noted that while she isn’t tuning in to the current season of ‘Welcome to Plathville,’ she’s aware that the content has validated some of the claims she’s made about the Plath family.

“ … I refuse to give my money and time to a network that promotes that kind of behavior,” she said. “But I’ve seen clips and I have friends who have seen clips and have told me things and I’m just like, ‘Yep, I f**king told you guys, but no one wanted to believe me!’”

5. Olivia credits her career for helping her leave her marriage and find love again.

As fans may remember, Olivia works as a wedding photographer. During the podcast, she revealed that her career not only allows her to see all kinds of love, but that it also provided her with the strength to leave her marriage to Ethan and ultimately restore her faith in love.

Olivia told listeners that she’s currently in a relationship and that she and her boyfriend are living together.

“He is exactly what I was looking for,” she said of her mystery man. “He doesn’t have a public life. We have kept our relationship completely private.”

“Privacy? What’s that?”

Olivia also noted during the podcast that she’s thankful she didn’t have kids with Ethan.

  1. Micah and Moriah are siblings close in age. “Emotional incest” applies only to a parent child relationship. Perhaps you need to look it up.

  2. Still trying to stay relevant… She says she knew it wasn’t going to last, yet stayed with him for 5 years? She is clearly not over her marriage or she would stop talking about it to get paid to say this stuff. Get a real job Olivia and move on. I bet your live in boyfriend loves to hear about your ex and his family. I didn’t like her from the start and knew she was a different kind of person.

    1. It doesn’t take much to read other articles about this season or Google it and see that she’s still in contract with TLC and they’ve refused to let her out of it. That’s why they’ve had her appear on camera talking to Veronica. As long as TLC refuses to let her out of her contract, I’d bad mouth them and the show every chance I got if I were her and get paid for it. Especially given that TLC let Kim sign Olivia’s contract payment terms the first season and didn’t pay Olivia at all and she was the only one that season to not be paid.

    2. There is alot of shame with Christian marriage if you get divorced. Sounds like you wouldn’t understand because you don’t come from that circle.

    3. I still talk about my ex husband and we divorced 4/20/17. It’s traumatic and the only way through is to talk about it as they will never admit their wrong doings.

  3. The world knew TLC liked to give platforms to horrible people before she ever even filmed.so she made them moneyand gave a lot of time by filming for 4 or 5 years.. it hasn’t been a secret that TLC doesn’t care who they give platforms to🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

    1. She didn’t make a dime off that first season their wedding. TLC pulled a Jim Bob and paid Kim all of the money.

  4. She is so relieved to be rid of her ex and his family but yet can’t stop talking about them. She can go away and take that Veronica chick with her!

    1. that’s literally what these people are asking her to do though. It’s a podcast. What else would she talk about?

  5. This bitch doesn’t deserve any attention. She married Ethan to escape her family, then used and emotionally abused him until she gained enough confidence to go out on her own. Pure selfishness every step of the way.

Do you guys remember that scene where Ethan tried to make her breakfast while she was working on her website and she got so annoyed she started crying? I knew then that there was no way she was in love with him.

    1. Have you listed to Ethans drunken homopobia rants on trans & gays?
She has receipts. They are not what they are trying make people think they are.

      1. I haven’t. I’m not on social media. But he’s religious. Doesn’t make him a bad person, just brainwashed.

    2. Yes! I remember that too and thought it was quite a strange reaction. She definitely did not want to be there..

  6. They’re divorced. Her ex husband and his family are out of her life. Why is she bleating on about them? I haven’t seen more than a few minutes of this show and I could tell something was seriously off about this family. But, they fit TLC’s creepy fundie family with home schooled children formula.

    1. You’re the fifth or so person to comment the same thing but it seems no one has read in previous articles that TLC has not and will not let her out of her contract so she’s still “talking about them” because she’s contractually obligated to be on the show.

  7. “Emotionally incestuous” is an odd term to use imo. Why not say trauma bonded or something of that nature? The word “incestuous” strictly implies sexual with a close relative.

    1. She used the term emotional incest because its a thing, which has a meaning. Perhaps try looking it up.
