Erin Bates’ Condition Worsens: Husband Says ‘Bringing Up Bates’ Star Suffered “Severe Seizure” After Going Into Septic Shock from Birth of Seventh Child

Chad Paine has posted a much-anticipated update on his wife Erin Bates Paine‘s condition following news that she had gone into septic shock after giving birth to their seventh child.

On Thursday, Chad wrote on Instagram that his wife had been showing some improvement, until Wednesday night when she suffered “a lengthy and severe seizure.”

As The Ashley previously reported, the Bringing Up Bates star gave birth to her seventh child, Henry, last week, but has remained in the ICU since, due to her poor health. On Monday, Chad took to Instagram to let their supporters know that Erin had been taken to the ICU, after she developed a severe UTI and kidney infection. The infections put Erin into septic shock.

In his update on Thursday, Chad stated that he had “so many mixed emotions” writing about Erin’s current state, adding that they are now “back in a place of heartache, uncertainty and tears” after seeing Erin worsen after she had been improving.

“She is in the ICU, and the doctors are running scans and tests to determine the cause. Erin is extremely weak and spent hours only half conscious,” Chad wrote.

“As her husband, it is one of the hardest things I’ve ever faced — to sit by her side and watch her struggle while being so helpless to ease her suffering,” he continued. “I love her more deeply than words can express, and I can’t even imagine life without my best friend. The hours have been long and heavy, and I know many hearts are aching to see her this way, along with mine. We hold on to faith that healing is coming, even in the midst of the unknown. Your prayers are felt and we are forever grateful.”

Earlier on Thursday, Erin’s sister Michaela posted an update showing new photos of baby Henry, who had been in the NICU since his birth on August 25.

“A huge thank you to every who has been praying for my sister Erin and her family over the past few days,” she wrote. “We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the outpouring of love, concern and prayer. Tho I have not been able to respond to every message please know that the comments, texts, and messages have touched our hearts deeply and we are so grateful. Henry is an absolute angel baby and we are completely in love with him.”

Erin has struggled with her health for years. Before her first son, Charles, was born in 2015, Erin suffered three miscarriages, which she has said were likely due to a blood clotting disorder she has. In 2019, Erin and Chad spoke to People after being told Erin’s health issues may prevent them from having any more children. (At the time, Erin and Chad were already parents to Charles, as well as daughters Brooklyn, Everly and Holland.)

“After consulting with our doctor, we realized having another baby was not going to be in our future. It was sad, just because we both really love kids, but I knew Erin’s health was the biggest priority, and we were overwhelmingly grateful for the four little blessings God has already given us,” Chad said. “We were content knowing that God sometimes has a different plan than our own.”

In 2021, Erin had multiple surgeries due to ruptured cysts, resulting in her having one of her ovaries fully removed, and the other partially removed. In 2022, she had her gallbladder removed.

Despite her health issues, the ‘Bringing Up Bates’ star went on to have three more babies at a very fast pace. Daughter Finley was born in January 2022. Less than two years later, Erin and Chad welcomed son William (prematurely) in October 2023. Less than 22 months later, they welcomed their newest son Henry.

  1. Normally I’d blame them for continuing to have so many kids, but my friend experienced this with her first (and only) child. She was the picture of perfect health until right after delivery. It wasn’t as severe as Erin’s case but it took a while to come back from. It really can happen to anyone.

  2. Prayers are going up for y’all. God is ALWAYS in control. Talk to her sing to her she can hear you. She is in God’s hands. Blessings

  3. I hope for the sake of her kids , she makes it out of this. These Jesus cult freaks will risk it all to be breeders. And it’s sick as hell.

    1. When God sends Jesus to save us “freaks”, Millions of people just up and vanish, remember your hateful rants here. Repent of your hate and accept Jesus is Lord. God loves his children, but His patience is coming to an end. I died of sleep apnea one night. I remember closing my eyes, the next I’m sitting on a granite boulder. Jesus came to me, healed me and let me feel His love for me. I am autistic, my feelings are pretty basic. I felt true, overwhelming love for the first time in my life. I can’t wait to get back there, but my task is to tell my story. I sincerely hope you heed my warning. Watch the Left Behind movies and read the books. You have no excuse now. As in the days of Noah, so it is now. God sent His precious son Jesus to teach the way to Heaven. He paid for our salvation by dying and spilling His precious blood for us. Everyday God delays, is a second chance for you! Please take it.

      1. But did he technically die though? I think it was more like him giving up his weekend.
Yes, “heaven” a place a child can go after being viciously killed. Then the killer can “repent “ and be in heaven with the child. What a wonderful place.

  4. I’m scared for her. If she passes away, she’ll be lauded as a martyr. I hope she pulls through, and I’m hoping against hope that she doesn’t get pregnant again!

  5. Praying for Erin’s health and her entire family. Chad know that you are in my prayers. God will give you strength when you feel you have none. Read to her, talk to her, sing to her for even though you think she can’t hear you, she can and she needs to know you have not given up on her. Showers of blessings upon you and your family.

  6. Saddens me to read so many horrific comments. Imagine this is your sister, daughter or friend. People who do not agree with their decision to have more children should keep those to yourself. Instead pray she makes it through this, pray for her husband, children and family as they walk through this with her. Spewing negativity and hate is never helpful, productive or serve any purpose outside of hate.

    1. What you’re describing is toxic positivity. Talking about the very real possibilities of this situation isn’t hateful, it’s realistic and grounding. I genuinely hope she does pull through, and that the two of them listen to the medical professionals. They are also being put in their story by God for a purpose. They have been told they are gambling with Erin’s life each pregnancy but choose to ignore it.

    2. “ People who do not agree with their decision to have more children should keep those to yourself.”

Where is that energy when it comes to gay marriage or equal rights for women? This family literally had a framed picture of the founders of the KKK on their schoolroom wall. Plus their show got canceled when they made fun of George Floyd’s murder. You can’t spread hate without it coming back around.

      1. To clarify, I hope she doesn’t die. It would be tragic for her 7 children to lose their mother. People can always change their views but they can’t undie.

  7. I am saddened as I read this by realizing that most of it could have been prevented by not having any more kids!!! That poor woman has the health problems of an elderly person! They should be addressing those and not having babies left and right 🙄

  8. God is with you Erin, you are a wonderful mom, wife, and daughter and granddaughter. You will get threw this. Chad and the kids need you. We will carry you in prayer.

  9. “Her health is the most important”.. well then why do you keep impregnating her???dumbass🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

  10. Dearest Erin, you are in my thoughts and prayers 🙏. I have been saying prayers and a rosary for you and Henry. God is watching over you.
Dear Heavenly Father watch over your servant Erin, and All the doctors who are trying to help her.

  11. I’m telling yall from my own experience in a fundie cult, they will for sure try again if she survives. If she does survive, it was gods healing. If she doesn’t, this was all gods plan. People like this do not learn from their mistakes. Dying after childbirth is seen as sacrificing yourself for gods plan. “Babies are a blessing” has killed so many women who KNEW having more kids was dangerous. They do not care about earthly logic. I feel so bad for the kids but both Erin and Chad are grown and absolutely should’ve listened to their doctors. This is just the natural outcome of their choices and I only feel bad that they’re brainwashed into thinking this is normal.

    1. Yeah. I always think of poor Andrea Yates and her children. The blood is only on her husband and pastors hands. They pretty much sealed a horrific outcome after treating her like a birthing cow. So sad.

  12. 3 babies with half an ovary??? Blood clotting disorder?? Why the hell are we having a 7th kid then?!!! Bc right now having that 7th baby is killing her and putting her family through a horrible time. And with a newborn baby.

    1. Her poor children who are already here and need a mom. I mean we only have so much time in a day, and kids need care and attention from parents. I hope they put her health, and their family first if she survives. It sounds scary, but lots of people have pulled through, so I will hope for the best.

      1. Right!!!! I have 1 child and I still feel like there isn’t enough time in the world for her! Can’t imagine 7+

  13. Hope this makes her take her health serious6and closes up shop for those 7 children who will become motherless of she doesn’t

  14. The only people I truly feel for on this situation are the kids. They’re very close to losing their mother and for what?
This isn’t “God’s plan” this is insanity. All of these religious couples having crazy amounts of kids because “religion” and birth control is bad need serious help. Any religion that is ok with you dying for a larger family is not a religion to align yourself with.
7 kids in a 10 year span is nuts.

    1. 7 kids in a 10 year span is crazy for a woman who is healthy and Erin very clearly is not. Her health issues have to be exacerbated by these back to back pregnancies, if not outright caused by them. Pregnancy is so hard on a woman’s body! I cannot imagine this many children so close together, not to mention the other procedures she’s had between babies.

  15. Trying to find it in my heart to feel for her and the family, but she wanted to take her life into her own hands for her religio instead of listening to her doctors. I feel for her children, the rest of the family, especially her husband, should bare this pain. She brought this on herself.

    1. Fundies don’t believe in birth control, they “leave it to God” to determine the number of children they have. If the mother is “sacrificed” from the ravages to her body from back to back to back pregnancies/births, then that is also “God’s will”. So sad that this still happens in this day and age

      1. When a woman with known fertility problems and only half an ovary has 3 babies in 3 years, I get skeptical it’s a matter of just letting nature take its course.
