Less than a week after Erin Bates Paine suffered a “lengthy and severe seizure” as well as septic shock following the birth of her seventh child, the Bringing Up Bates star has reportedly been transferred to a new hospital to continue her recovery.
On Tuesday, Erin’s husband, Chad Paine, shared an update on his wife’s health to social media, telling fans that, “recovery is not fast or easy, but we are deeply thankful for every small step forward.”
“ … Yesterday, Erin was transferred to a new hospital where a team of doctors is working together to help her improve,” he wrote.
“The nurses have been so compassionate and have become like family to us. We miss our babies more than words can say, and we are so grateful for each prayer, message, and act of kindness from those who have reached out during this time. Your love is carrying us.”
Erin’s parents Gil and Kelly Jo Bates left a comment on the post, praising Chad for being “the most amazing, loving husband” by her side.
“We are still praying fervently for the doctors to have wisdom and for you to have strength,” they wrote.
The latest update comes just days after Chad revealed to fans on Instagram that Erin was “on the road to recovery” after being in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for more than five days, where she was “extremely weak and half-conscious.”
Saturday’s update featured a video of Erin laying the hospital bed kissing her newborn son, Henry, who has been in the NICU since his August 25 birth.
As The Ashley previously told you, Erin first went into the ICU after developing a severe UTI and kidney infection following Henry’s birth. The infections put Erin into septic shock, and while Chad told fans that his wife had been getting better, he revealed on Thursday that Erin had suffered a severe seizure Wednesday night, leaving he and the Bates family “back in a place of heartache, uncertainty and tears” regarding Erin’s prognosis.
While Chad’s two most-recent updates have been more positive than his previous posts, Erin’s pastor revealed to their church congregation on Sunday that he had visited the mom-of-seven on Saturday and at the time, she was still unable to move one of her legs, but was able to talk and had use of both of her hands.
The pastor also revealed that Erin had suffered a grand mal seizure, which caused the 34-year-old to seize for 15 minutes.
“Four people [were] holding her down, but you know, when you see her in the hospital, she has a glow about her still,” he added.
Erin has struggled with her health for years. Prior to the birth of her first child in 2015, the former United Bates of America star suffered three miscarriages, which she has said were likely caused by her blood-clotting disorder. In 2021– at which point the couple had welcomed four children and were expecting their fifth– Erin and Chad spoke to People about Erin’s health issues possibly preventing them from having more children.
“After consulting with our doctor, we realized having another baby was not going to be in our future,” Chad said. “It was sad, just because we both really love kids, but I knew Erin’s health was the biggest priority, and we were overwhelmingly grateful for the four little blessings God has already given us. We were content knowing that God sometimes has a different plan than our own.”
Months before announcing that she and Chad were expecting their fifth child, Erin revealed to fans in February 2021 that she had undergone multiple surgeries due to ruptured cysts, resulting in her having one of her ovaries fully removed, and the other partially removed.
Despite suffering multiple health issues, Erin welcomed her fifth child in January 2022. She and Chad went on to welcome their sixth child William (prematurely) in October 2023, followed by their newest addition, Henry.

Sounds like she needs to rehab. Tragic. She’s young and still has so much life to live. Hopefully they both make the right decision for her health.
To possibly leave 7 children motherless is just heartbreaking. I hope they realize that she is not meant to have more children. The 7 existing children need her more than their belief that they have to have as many babies as possible.
No doubt she’ll be pregnant again in a year. Chad won’t be happy till hes martyred her off. I hate these abusive fundies.
How do you know it would be Chad’s decisions? All these men (whether they be sons or sons in law) leave it up to wives.
But I have heard where in some cases the husband and wife decide TOGETHER if they’re gonna have another kid…I’ve even heard of a pregnancy being UNPLANNED
Thank God she is doing better. I can’t imagine 7 kids losing their mom. What a horrible situation.
I sincerely hope this is a wakeup call to them that Erin’s body can’t handle anymore pregnancies. Septic shock can have lifelong consequences. I went into septic shock in 2023 from a antibiotics resistant UTI. It left me with a damaged heart and POTS Syndrome. Every day is now a struggle. I don’t like their beliefs but I sincerely hope that doesn’t happen to Erin because those hospital photos of her look worse than I ever did. Give her body a break.
“But God wants her to have these babies! Surely that’s more important than her life and the other kids having a mother!”
Well I assume that’s how these dipshits think
I hope this new mama has a swift and full recovery
