Chad Paine— the husband of Erin Bates Paine—gave fans a look at the current condition of the Bringing Up Bates star, posting a video from Erin’s hospital room on Wednesday. While many fans appreciated the update, others were upset that Chad would post such an “invasive” video of his wife, who is currently critically ill.
In the video, Chad reads a letter from the couple’s daughter Brooklyn to Erin, who is shown in bed with her eyes closed and barely moving. While she does speak briefly in the video— telling Chad that she misses her daughter— Erin’s condition is noticeably fragile, causing some fans to slam Chad for posting it publicly.
“A moment we never want to forget,” he wrote in the caption of the video. “Being away from our babies has been harder than we ever imagined. Our hearts ache to be together again.”
As The Ashley previously reported, Erin first went into the ICU after developing a severe UTI and kidney infection following the birth of their seventh child, Henry, on August 25. The infections put Erin into septic shock, and Chad revealed last week that Erin had gone on to suffer a lengthy and severe seizure. (According to an update given by Erin’s pastor, she suffered a grand mal seizure that lasted 15 minutes and had been unable to move one of her legs as of Sunday.)
On Tuesday Chad told fans that, “recovery is not fast or easy” and that Erin had been transferred to a new hospital for her recovery. It appears that Erin’s kids— which, in addition to Henry and Brooklyn include Charles, Holland, Everly, Finley and William— have been unable to visit her.
In the video posted on Wednesday, Chad tells Erin that her MRI test results came back and “looks good.”
Erin can be seen crying as Chad reads what Brooklyn wrote about Erin not seeing, and some fans voiced their concerns in the post’s comment section about it feeling exploitive of Erin and Brooklyn to post it.
“This moment should have stayed private,” one person wrote.
“This feels invasive,” someone else commented. “…she’s heavily medicated I don’t think she can consent to being recorded for the Internet in her state.”
“Some moments are meant to be private,” another person wrote. “Reading this letter should be one. The message was intended for you only, not the whole Internet.”
“Oh gosh I wish I hadn’t seen this,” commented another fan. “It’s too much of a private moment.”
“Did your little girl write this knowing you were going to read it for millions of strangers?” someone else commented. “Or did she write it thinking it was just to her mom and dad?”

Others defended Chad’s decision to share the personal video, stating that he and Erin are used to make their lives public.
“They choose to share what the good Lord is doing in their lives,” someone wrote.
“They probably prayed to GOD and asked if they can share private stuff,” another person added.
Erin’s parents– –Kelly Jo and Gil Bates— did not seem to have an issue with Chad sharing the video. The couple— who, in addition to Erin, have 18 other children— left a comment on the post praising Chad for being by Erin’s side.
“I will never ever forget these past weeks of a roller coaster ride,” the Bates wrote. “The trips back & forth to FL, the joy of little Henry’s arrival, watching Erin go through so many health struggles, all of our emotions on a rollercoaster, the kids being so brave & wonderful, Chad being such a tremendous supporter, seeing progress, seeing setbacks, the uncertainty, the fears, seeing family & friends join in to help or visit or send gifts, the beyond amazing hospital staff, the hospital room filled with nurses coming to talk & check on Erin- even when their shifts were over, the tears we cried together, the prayers we have been constantly sending up to heaven, the massive amount of comments & calls & love being sent from so many friends, the helplessness we all felt, the gratitude to so many people (especially staff) & to God for helping us get through the difficult times…
“My mind is flooded with so many memories already & it gives me courage that we can face tomorrow one day at a time with God as our strength & our hope! Love you so much, Erin & Chad!” Kelly Jo and Gil added.

My lord, leave that man alone. There is always someone who doesn’t agree with it. Those people should just keep scrolling past something and move on. What a evil world that we leave in that people just want to be mean.
While appreciate that people are worried about Erin’s privacy, we don’t know if she said, or wanted him to post it. I allowed pictures of me dying to be posted at certain times, and when I said no, it wasn’t posted. no one but Erin and Chad were in that room when the video was taken or posted so everyone needs to chill.Im happy to see the MRI was clea, as that means no brain damage from the long seizure.
By the way, she could be a lot less medicated than you think. Anti seizure medication is incredibly difficult to get on and get yo to a therapeutic level(saying this as someone who has epilepsy as result of a massive brain injury ) even after my brain i jury i still understood what i was c9nsenting to. Clearly, these people, who are judging have been lucky enough to nothing had to experience this.
And when I say massive brain injury. Im talking that I function on half a brain.no one can figure out how i can walk in my own 2 legs with out aidThe only person who can tell us what she’s feeling or how she’s functioning mentally is Erin..and only her feelings matter in this situation, really because minors aren’t capable of making these li as if choices which is why they can’t sign legal contracts etc.
I am really thankful for the photos of me dying were posted because I smashed my. Phone to pieces shortly after getting out of the hospital, 13weeks later.i have photo evidence of my duong because.an asshole surgeon decided he was going to operate on me with absolutely zero consent from me, nor my next of kin.. ironically he had to get consent from my next of kin in order to perform a surgery in order to save my life . But Erin is most likely sleepy bit has no cognition problems so if she consents he has every right to post it
