“90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days” Star David Dangerfield Announces He & Sheila Mangubat Have Broken Up

“’90 Day: The Single Life’ here we come!”

It’s over for 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days stars David Dangerfield and Sheila Mangubat.

The Season 6 alums have broken up after more than four years together. David took to his Instagram on Wednesday to post a simple message reading, “Me and Sheila are broken up and we are good [friends].”

Sheila has yet to comment on the breakup publicly.

Although fans were left without an explanation as to why the couple broke up, David’s announcement comes after months of speculation online that the couple might be done. In early August, several “90 Day” social media fan accounts posted that their relationship was “over,” despite neither David nor Sheila confirming the split until this week. Some fans continue to speculate that their split was due to conflict surrounding the complicated K-1 Visa process to bring Sheila and her son over to the United States from the Philippines.

David— who hails from Nebraska— had shared on his Instagram in November 2024 that Sheila’s application for the K-1 Visa had been denied, but that he was already working to submit the papers over again. In the comment section of an Instagram post from January, David wrote that he was still working hard on getting the visa, and that they were “so tired” of waiting but not giving up.

Fans have been following David and Sheila’s journey since they appeared on ‘Before the 90 Days’ in 2023. The couple met on a Facebook group for singles struggling with hearing loss. (David is completely deaf and nonverbal, while Sheila uses a hearing aid for her partial deafness.)

Despite these barriers in communication, their relationship continued to thrive leading up to David’s trip to the Philippines during their season of “Before the 90 Days.”

David and Sheila during Season 6…

On his trip to Sheila’s hometown, David encountered his fiancé’s insecurity and trust issues. Sheila had found David’s American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter to be too attractive and admitted her feelings of jealousy.

Despite this, the couple remained strong, even when David’s first night with Sheila’s family took a turn for the worse when her mother passed away unexpectedly after falling on dilapidated stairs at the family home. They stood by each other’s sides through the tough grilling from host Shaun Robinson at the Tell-All event of their season and remained one of very few couples to stay together after the season ended. (In fact, they were the last couple from their season to break up, with the other seven couples either splitting up mid-season or after Season 6 ended.)

David has documented at least three more trips to visit Sheila in the Philippines since the show wrapped while simultaneously raising money to try fix Sheila’s home in the Philippines, as well as to buy a home for himself, Sheila and her son.

In January 2024, David created a GoFundMe, asking fans to donate to him so he could buy a house.

“To live in a home with my family is a dream come true; however, I’m hesitant because I’m worried my job and current salary will not allow me to afford a home. Please help my family so we can be together,” he wrote on the fundraising page. “My fiancé Sheila and I met online in a group for deaf singles. We began talking every day for two years until 2023 when I flew to meet her in the Philippines. During our time there, her mother had an unfortunate accident that resulted [in] her passing. Despite all of the challenges we’ve faced, Sheila and I have a very strong love and bond. We want to live together with her son in a safe home.”

David revealed that, at the time, he was working as a janitor in a casino, as well as stocking shelves in a grocery store.

“My salary alone will not be enough to purchase a good home for our family. Please help us to afford a quiet home where we can live together,” he wrote on the fundraising page, which went on to raise over $21,000.

In the comment section of his Instagram post announcing his and Sheila’s breakup, David received plenty of support from other “90 Day” cast members.

“I’m sorry man,” wrote his Season 6 co-star Tyray Mollett. “I’m glad that you two are still friends.”

“Sorry to hear that, David. You’re a great guy!” commented Season 6’s Statler Riley.

“I’m so sorry bro,” wrote co-star Riley. “We ALL were routing for you guys.”
