Mama June Shannon Remembers Daughter Anna Cardwell on the Second Anniversary of Her Death

Mama June Shannon took to social media on Tuesday to remember her late daughter, Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell, on the second anniversary of her death.

As fans of Mama June: Family Crisis know, Anna passed away December 9, 2023, at the age of 29 following a nearly year-long battle with Stage 4 cancer.

In a video posted to Instagram on Wednesday, June reminded fans that it had been two years since Anna’s death, insisting that while she may not be on social media “boo-booing” daily over the loss of her daughter, she’s still working through the grieving process.

“ … [it] doesn’t mean I don’t have bad days,” June said. “Don’t mean I’m not a f**king emotional wreck half the damn time.”

June compared losing a child to “an up and down scale,” before explaining that she wasn’t speaking out on the anniversary of Anna’s death to talk about the sadness she’s experiencing, but rather to encourage others to “show love to Anna’s social media pages,” claiming that she really wants to “keep the pages alive.” (June also told fans that she’d like to memorialize Anna’s social media pages and asked that anyone who knew how to please reach out to her via email.)

“ … I also want y’all to talk about the memories you had of Anna,” June said, adding that, “Anna loved the f**king spotlight” and loved being on TV.

“I like to think she got that from me, y’all!”

While June wants fans to continue to keep Anna’s memory alive, she revealed that her family has also done so in different ways, as Anna’s sister Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon purchased a vehicle recently from the car dealership where Anna used to work.

June also reflected on the final vacation the family took before Anna’s death– a trip to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, that June said was one of her favorite memories with her daughter. While Anna was “so excited” about the trip, June noted that many people online were “so against” it, given Anna’s poor health at the time.

“I always tell people, I don’t give a s**t if Anna even passed away in that car, I was going to Pigeon Forge and that may sound f**ked up on my part, but ya know, we had so much fun there and made so many memories,” she said, adding that while her daughter Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson was unable to join the family on the trip due to school obligations, she frequently FaceTimed the group.

Anna ultimately passed away just days after the family’s trip to Pigeon Forge, with her death sadly falling on her youngest daughter Kylee’s birthday. (Anna was also a mom to daughter Kaitlyn, whom June was awarded custody of in September 2024 following a custody battle with Michael Cardwell, who is Anna’s ex-husband and Kylee’s father.)

Anna and her daughters in 2022…

June said that dealing with Anna’s death has been “a rough time” for everyone, particularly Kylee and Kaitlyn, who won’t have their mother around for the big milestones coming up in their lives.

“My thing that I’m dealing with and struggling with right now as Anna’s mother is Kaitlyn, in around five months, is going to be graduating 8th grade and Anna is not gonna be there for that,” June said. “That’s what bothers me.

“She’s not gonna be there for the 5th grade graduation of Kylee, she’s not gonna be here for the 8th grade graduation for Kaitlyn, she’s not gonna be there for the first day of middle school for Kylee, she’s not gonna be there for the first day of high school for Kaitlyn, she’s not gonna be there for their [high school] graduation,” she continued. “And that, I think, bothers me the most.”

June admitted to feeling angry over the fact that Anna is no longer here, though she said she tries to remember Anna “favorite saying” about playing the hand you’re dealt, adding, “it is what it is.”

“Losing a child has been one of the hardest things that I’ve ever went through in my whole entire f**king life, even outside of drug addiction,” June added.

  1. You lost Anna the moment you chose her abuser over her, not once but twice. You are disgusting and no mother at all to any of your children.
Also it’s criminal that you separated this girls from each other. They lost their mother and now they can’t even live together. You are a POS

  3. Seriously. F this woman. She exposed her own children to a pedophile over and over again. She deserves every ounce of pain she will ever experience. It should have been her.
