Jody Patterson— who appeared on many episodes of Teen Mom alongside his stepson, Gary Shirley— has been charged with four felony counts of child molestation, and the alleged details are shocking.
Local Indianapolis news station Fox 59 broke the news of Jody’s charges on Friday, indicating that Jody received extra charges because his alleged victim was under the age of 14. The case was filed against him in Indiana court on Thursday.
‘Teen Mom OG’ fans will best-remember Jody from several episodes from Season 7, in which he and Gary took DNA tests to see if Jody was Gary’s biological father. Although the tests showed that Jody was not Gary’s father, Jody remained active in Gary’s life. Over the years, Jody has appeared frequently on the shows with Gary and his mom.
According to Fox 59, Jody is accused of molesting the same girl over a period of years, starting when the girl was eight. She recently reported the alleged abuse at the age of 13. The girl claims that, during the first alleged incident, Jody allegedly separated her from her siblings while he was babysitting and made her sleep on the couch with him. The girl claims that the abuse continued on until right before her 12th birthday.
The girl also stated that Jody threatened that she would “get in big trouble” if she told anyone about the alleged abuse.
The State of Indiana is currently seeking habitual offender status for Jody. It is currently unknown when Jody’s court hearing is.
As of press time, Gary has not commented on his stepdad’s charges.

Jody Patterson was himself a victim of a high-profile crime in 1984. At age 11, he was kidnapped and sexually assaulted by his karate instructor, Jeff Doucet. This case gained national attention when Patterson’s father, Gary Plauché, shot and killed Doucet on live television at the Baton Rouge airport following the boy’s rescue.

Are you sure it’s the same one? Because Gary had to be born around 1986 and Jody was at least suspected to be his biological father, but if it was the same one, he’d have only been thirteen at the time of Gary’s birth.

Gary is his step-son so he could be much younger than Gary’s mom.
Gary’s mom told him he was the father. He believed it and he was on the birth certificate. This was the mid 80s before dna tests were widespread. It’s not the same Jody.
That victim’s name was Joseph Boyce “Jody” Plauche–not Jody Patterson. The dates and names do not match up. This is a different person, and by all accounts, Jody Plauche grew up to be a wonderful adult who works in the field of child abuse prevention. Please do not spread this false and harmful information about a victim.
This is not the same Jody. Jody Plauche has written a book about his story, titled “Why, Gary, Why”. A simple google search of his name and book title will pull up a photo of him holding the book.

As a CSA survivor, I doubt this is his only victim. It’s never just one. They do it over and over until they get caught and only then, do SOME of them stop

@betty- not that I could find from court records in indiana. However, it could be because he is accused of abusing the girl for a number of years. But I couldn’t find any other charges in this category ever filed against him! -The Ashley

Nowhere in A’s comment mentioned Amber and Gary’s relationship and their age difference.
Everyone likes to ignore it bc amber is insane, but Gary started dating her when she was young too. Just saying

definitely agree he was a creep for dating a minor and the people who defend him just because he’s a great dad are weird too HOWEVER gary’s also the same one who got angry at amber and told her he was taking leah because amber had her dick of the week changing leah’s diapers, i do think he should be called out for dating amber as a minor but i don’t think he’d support jody or be anything like him
I think he stepped as a father, but it doesn’t take away from dating an obviously unstable teenager.
True, but if I remember correctly Amber was acting above her age and Gary was immature. Not that it makes it right. But I could swear she lied to him about her age at first, but then he kept dating her.
