Unexpected grandma Misty “Mama G” Georgeff recently opened up about her relationship with her daughter Amaya‘s baby daddy (and ex-boyfriend) Jose, who has continued to live with her, despite his relationship with Amaya ending.

During a recent TikTok Live, Mama G was asked why she didn’t officially adopt Jose, or become his legal guardian. (As ‘Unexpected’ fans are aware, Jose has lived with Amaya and Mama G for a long time. He moved in with them when his own parents moved away and had another baby of their own. While Jose is in contact with his family, they only appeared briefly in one episode of the show.) 

Mama G stated that, despite her close bond with Jose, and the fact that she pays for nearly all his living expenses, his mother won’t allow her to become his legal guardian. She also gave the surprising (and sad) reason she suspects Jose’s mom refuses to sign guardianship of him over to her.

“She will not give me legal guardianship,” Mama G said. “She still holds insurance for him, she carries the insurance but she does not buy food for him, she does not buy him clothes, she does not buy his personal hygiene. She does not buy any of those things for him.

“But I think she will not legally give me guardianship because of taxes. But that could be my opinion, but I’m pretty f**king smart,” she said.

During another TikTok Live, Mama G and Jose revealed that Jose’s dad is not really involved in his life. his mother did show up to the first birthday party they held for Jose and Amaya’s son Sammy. (She also revealed that Sammy had no clue who Jose’s family members were because they had not been involved much in his life.) 

During a TikTok video posted after last week’s Season 7 finale episode, Mama G spoke about how she supports Jose, despite the fact that he and Amaya broke up about 10 months ago (and Amaya now has a girlfriend.) That garnered a lot of praise for Mama G.

“I love that regardless you made sure Jose knew he was loved and wanted,” one person wrote in the comments of the video. “I’m so happy that boy found someone who genuinely cares for him and wants to see him do better. And that you are helping navigate this time in life when most won’t.”

When fans praised Mama G for being there for Jose when she had no obligation to do so, she revealed how she feels about the 17-year-old.

“I love Jose like I birthed that child lol,” she wrote in the comment section of the post.

“I love Jose like a true son he will forever be ok with me,” she told someone else.

Mama G also praised Jose for being a great father, and slammed fans who insinuated that Amaya and her girlfriend had used Jose as a “sperm donor.” 

“He is not a sperm donor. He is a father and a great one!” she said, before confirming that Jose has started to date and is welcome to date other people while continuing to live in her home.
