Catelynn Lowell has had a lot to say about being cut off from her biological daughter, Carly, and now Cate’s mother April is giving her thoughts on the situation— and spilling some behind-the-scenes tea about Catelynn’s trusty adoption counselor Dawn!
April apparently has a podcast now, alongside Cate’s youngest brother Nick Radtke. (The Ashley never thought she’d see the day where April from ‘Teen Mom’ has a podcast but…here we are.)
Anyway, during the first episode, April revealed how she feels about Carly’s parents, Brandon and Teresa Davis, and their decision to stop communicating with Cate and her husband Tyler Baltierra.
Fans will remember that April was very against Catelynn and Tyler placing Carly for adoption after her 2009 birth, even taking Cate and Ty to court (along with her then-husband Butch Baltierra) to try to block the adoption. (In 2024, Tyler spoke about Butch and April’s attempt to keep them from adopting out Carly, stating, “Our parents actually fought us in court. They were withdrawn from drugs in the back of the courtroom trying to get us to stop doing what we were doing. So, we had to get guardian ad litem appointed to represent us.”)
Interestingly, April did not take the opportunity to tell her daughter “I told you so” regarding the adoption, even though her predictions about them getting cut out of Carly’s life have essentially come true.
When a fan asks how she feels about Brandon and Teresa cutting off Cate and Ty, April stated that she feels bad for her daughter and son-in-law.
“It makes me sad,” April told Nick. “Like, I don’t really know them people [Brandon and Teresa] to really say anything. It just makes me sad for Catelynn and Tyler and all of us that got to see her and now we can’t.”
(As The Ashley reported in 2023, April was included in what was to be Cate and Ty’s last in-person visit with Carly. Things went south during the visit after April allegedly cracked open a brewsky, after Catelynn told her there was to be no drinking during the visit with Carly.)
April said that she has no way of getting in touch with Carly (or her parents).
“It’s not like I can just pick up the phone and call her, email them because I don’t know any of that stuff,” April said. “I don’t think I would do that anyway… I gotta respect them. So, that’s what I’ve always tried to do with them guys.”
“I think so. But that’s my opinion,” April said. “They were young. You know, it was a crazy time in their lives. Hard to say.”
After that, April and Nick spilled some tea about Dawn, the adoption counselor used by Cate and Ty during Carly’s adoption. (Dawn has remained a go-between between the two families and remains in contact with Cate and Ty, as well as Brandon and Teresa.)
Although Tyler has defended Dawn and her role in the adoption— even in recent years— it’s clear that April does not feel the same way about the adoption counselor.
“I didn’t like Dawn then,” April said. “I liked her for a little while later on in life and I don’t f**kin’ like her now!”
Nick went on to reveal that April reportedly caught Dawn “talking s**t” about her about three years ago. (We can assume that it was during the visit with Carly in 2023.)
“That’s why I don’t like her anymore!” April added.
April went on to regale listeners with the tale, stating that she was in the bathroom when she overheard Dawn allegedly telling someone about a certain someone being “disrespectful.”
“I heard her talking and saying how disrespectful somebody was, and I was like being nosy and I’m like, ‘who’s disrespectful?'” April said.
“It was me,” April continued. “They were talking about me because I said my son Nicholas was where we were for the visit [with Carly], and that my mother was there too with Nicholas.”
April said came barreling out of the bathroom stall at that point, likely to Dawn’s horror.
“Then when I came out of that stall, she tried to be like ‘Oh, April!’ [and I was like] ‘Get the f**k away from me.'”
April went on to state that she believed Brandon and Teresa were intimidated by how many people came with Cate and Ty on their last visit with Carly. She claimed it was her, as well as Tyler’s mom Kim and her husband, as well as Cate’s friend, all on the visit.
“People just kept comin’!” she said.
“Teresa, when I walked up to her, she’s like, ‘Who’s all these people?'” April said.
April also addressed the drinking incident that set off a period of estrangement between her and Cate.
“The whole drinking thing, like, oh, it was made to look like I was drunk, which if we all had brains, we would know that for one, Cate and Ty wouldn’t have allowed me to be there drunk,” she said. “… and I’m not that f**king stupid. Okay, I had a one beer. One beer with dinner. Teresa and Brandon were drinking wine. So I drank a beer. That was it. And then we all left after dinner. They went home to their hotel and I went home to mine.”
April stated that, these days, she has a great relationship with Catelynn and Tyler, as well as their three daughters.

Of course, April takes no accountability for being the reason why Cate’s life was so “crazy.” But, how is it that even she has enough sense not to publicly criticize Brandon and Theresa?? April being the diplomatic one was not on bingo card.
The only pleasant news here is that April isn’t publicly bashing B&T. The rest is just ridiculous because April, Butch, and Tyler are the three main reasons why Cate gave up Carly and none of them ever take responsibility for it.

Sorry to all commenters………………………….. all we have EVER seen is what MYV wants us to!!!!! We know cate and Tyler gave her up for good reasons but not one single viewer can speculate anything to do with Kate, Ty, April, Butch, etc.

Everyone hating on April or hating on cate and ty or dawn or nick or Brandon and Teresa none of us actually have a right to do that at all we only saw a very small portion of their lives. We only now see what they share publicly and being a young mom who consider adoption I can stay with 100% certain if I was on TV I would share very very, very limited things in my life. I was a teen mom when I started watching this show and even maybe a teen mom knows that 100%. It’s a very tiny portion of their lives that gets edited for views at the end of the day and none of us at all know any of the parties involved in this situation we only know what Kate Ty, and now recently April has shared so at the end of the day everybody attacking April or Nick or Kate or Ty or even Carly‘s adoptive parents y’all have no right no right at all this family tries to keep shit private now for a reason so let’s all just stop speculating!!!!! And now for my final words, I’m sure I’m gonna be attacked and I’m OK with that people who hate are gonna hate, but regardless the reality of the situation is what I stated above none of us know them any of them at all we know what we’ve seen on TV that’s it point blank. So let’s stop attacking people just because we hate them for a poorly edited TV show by the way is off the air now who cares let them all live their lives. Let Karley turn a team. Will let her reach out to her parents. If that’s what she wants let them fucking be.

April if you weren’t an addict and an awful mother Cate wouldn’t have put her daughter up for adoption. She didn’t want her daughter to be raised near you and wind up like her so stfu already and have some accountability

April is a notorious addict and that’s why they requested she wouldn’t consume alcohol. And she couldn’t respect that because she’s an addict and she’s entitled like the rest of her family
April and Butch were actively using crack while Caitlyn was pregnant.
Caitlyn said in her and Tyler’s book that this is why they put Carly up for adoption: they wanted a better life for her.
That 16-17 years later, Ape still hasn’t grasped she was the biggest factor in Carly’s adoption placement says everything.
She didn’t need to drink a beer at dinner because B & T had a glass of wine. She should have waited to drink one after the visit at her hotel room.

I understand it being a
“family reunion” but it had to be overwhelming. I’m adopted and didn’t find out until I was in my 30s and it was overwhelming to me at family functions. Still is sometimes.
April still doesn’t understand that SHE is the reason Carly was placed for adoption. Because cate didn’t want Carly to have the life she had, that April made for her. No accountability

Here’s a caring but truthful version, steady and human, with clean wording and no dashes:
The theme in all of this is what the situation is doing to them, not anything about seeing Carly. There has not been a single accusation that Carly is not being cared for. There has not been a single mention questioning whether she is safe. They avoid those points because they already know the truth. Carly is well, loved, and thriving. Their decision to place her for adoption was the best decision for Cate, for Tyler, and especially for Carly. She is living proof that the right choice was made at a time when two teenagers were hurting in ways most people will never understand. I will always have sympathy for that.
But the reality is that the reason they cannot see Carly now is because of Cate and Tyler, their choices, and their behavior over the past few years. They cannot see that they are repeating the same patterns they once wanted to protect Carly from. They act completely unaware that they have three other girls living in the middle of the same unhealthy, life altering environment they were trying to escape.
I’m sure they didn’t like their OF either.
And also Tyler threatened to bolt, if Cait kept the baby too.
Saying that Catelynn and Tyler are repeating the same patterns they wanted to protect Carly from is actually so wild.
When did Catelynn and Tyler start using crack? When did Tyler go to prison for multiple years? When did Catelynn become an abusive alcoholic?
Catelynn and Tyler have their faults like everyone does but they are no where close to being anything like Butch and April.
Maybe they don’t do crack but they are very obviously addicted to weed. And before you say “oh that’s not as bad” obviously. But they’re still drug addicts. They’re jobless losers. They’re selfish. So yes, you’re right. They’re not crack heads. But they’re not good people or good parents.
No, smoking weed doesn’t make someone a drug addict. And they are not addicted. Be so for real 🙄. Don’t they have a podcast? Isn’t that a job? Or it only counts as a job if it’s a 9-5? How exactly are they bad people or bad parents? Do they act like Farrah, Jenelle, Amber, Ryan, Amanda?? No.
Overcoming a childhood being raised by addicts and abused is hard. Have some compassion.
Well weed is a drug. And they are addicted to it. So yes they ARE drug addicts. It’s crazy to me that since it’s socially acceptable to smoke weed people pretend like it’s not addictive. And being under the influence of anything while there’s children around IS dangerous.
@sam ~ not to speak for @andress, but she pretty obviously didn’t mean the EXACT patterns (crack, prison, etc). it seems she was talking more about lack of accountability, lack of education, general low-brow lifestyle…which cate and tyler have continued.
i can’t even IMAGINE what their life would be if they hadn’t chosen adoption and hadn’t been on teen mom**. that very well could’ve resulted in ACTUAL crackhead life, and it’s VERY doubtful they’d still be together.

That’s an interesting question: where would Jace be if JE didn’t get picked for MTV?
I think Babs would still have taken custody but would strongly consider adoption. Jace may have lived the Carly golden life, with stable, smart parents, perhaps a siblings, free from screaming adults, abusive stepfathers and mental health facilities.
Jace, when you turn 18 get the hell away from Jenelle, get an agent and a good ghostwriter & release a tell-all book. Unfortunately we know it’s gonna be a hard read, you won’t need to exaggerate any of what you’ve witnessed and experienced but we will buy your book and believe you. Take the money and run far away and live well.
Sure, April had one beer to go with Brandon/Theresa’s wine. The problem is the 8 beers April probably had prior to that. Picturing Butch and April together is a bit frightening. I recall a few episodes when they were being really harsh with Cate when she was living with them.
The amount of people Catelynn and Tyler brought along was WILD. I could see bringing Kim because, if I recall correctly, she’s always consistently sent Carly letters and gifts via Dawn, isn’t super trashy and insane, and has a basic understanding of boundaries or at least accountability if she oversteps. But drunk April and a random friend was ridiculous. This is supposed to be your super special visit and you bring half the town.

And were super late because they were finishing a scrapbook. Can you imagine not having jobs and have all the time in the world to finish a scrap book and you are late and make them wait for the circus to arrive.
Exactly! I brought that up on a Facebook video the other day. Catelynn waiting until the last minute and making them wait shows how little they actually respect Carly and her parents. Self-centered as hell.
It’s also insane that they brought all these people with them, but didn’t run it by B&T first. They didn’t bother to see if B&T were okay with it, or at the very least give them a heads up that there would be all those people coming with them. This is exactly why cate and Tyler are cut off at this time. They are so entitled when it comes to Carly and never respected any of the boundaries B&T set.
Is it just me or does anyone else find it hysterical that even April has a podcast and Jenelle still can’t manage to get the one that she swears is coming any day now off the ground? 😉

That abusive drunk has a podcast? You’ve got to be kidding, Caitlyn said she had a big fight with April and we all know it’s because she was told not to drink. She’s an alcoholic. What did she expect? Too many showed up, I agree.
