Almost a year after ‘The Challenge’ star Davis Mallory announced on social media that he was no longer gay, the former MTV star has hard-launched his relationship with girlfriend Rachel Vaughan.
Over the weekend, the 43-year-old posted a video to Instagram featuring memories from his recent travels, many of which included a woman named Rachel. In a follow-up post on Sunday, he confirmed that he and Rachel are in a relationship.
“It’s crazy what love can do,” Davis captioned his carousel of coupled-up photos. “I love you @rachelevaughanaa.”
As The Ashley told you last year, Davis– who publicly came out as gay during 2006’s ‘The Real World: Denver’– posted a video to Instagram of him sharing his testimony to a crowd at a church event in Hawaii. In the video, Davis told the audience that he was raised in the church and that his parents had met as “worship leaders.” He then shared that his parents divorced when he was 10, leaving him without a father figure; Davis suggested that this played a role in him going on to “live the gay lifestyle for about 20 years.”
“ … I was on a television show, ‘The Real World,’ and I came out on the show as a gay Christian, but God really pulled me out of that lifestyle a year ago,” Davis stated. “He started speaking to me in my dreams and showing me the spiritual warfare that I was going through.”
Fans may remember Davis opening up during his season of ‘The Real World’ about his experience growing up in the south in a conservative Christian family. Davis also revealed to viewers at the time that when he came out as gay as a teenager, some members of his family were not supportive.
Following his ‘Real World’ stint, Davis went on to compete on three seasons of ‘The Challenge’– The Inferno 3, The Duel 2 and Rivals. He has pursued a singing and songwriting career while DJ-ing and hosting the Leaving a Legacy podcast.
“Do I find men beautiful? Yes of course. Do I find women beautiful? Yes of course,” Davis responded. “We are created in God’s image and in His likeness. The beauty of creation gives glory to the Creator. I’ll ask you this. What do you believe the design of sex is for? What do you believe is sexually immoral behavior?”
When the fan went on to accuse Davis of “dodging” the questions, Davis fired back, “To answer your question directly then NO & NO.”
“But God started giving me vivid dreams and healed me from trauma and showed me the spiritual warfare I was under,” he reiterated.
As for his relationship with Rachel, Davis seemingly opened up about their connection earlier this month during an appearance on The Zach Nichols Podcast. On the episode, Davis explained that, at one point, “physical intimacy with a man” began to feel “hollow,” which is when his “spiritual journey began.”
“I really feel like the Holy Spirit was kind of grieving me, so then we just didn’t have any sex, ‘cause it just felt really hollow and empty,” he said. “And I went to Hawaii to DJ a wedding and I met this beautiful girl who checked me into a hostel, and I became friends with her on Instagram. And she was on fire for Jesus and was, like, going to the beach and reading the Bible at a time in my life when I wasn’t surrounded by any Christians at all.”
Earlier this month, Rachel– who, according to social media, was living in Hawaii at the time of Davis’s aforementioned trip– shared a video to social media in honor of Davis’s birthday. In the caption of her post, she provided her own account of how the two first connected.
“First day I met Davis in the middle of the ocean we pet wild horses and hitchhiked up the valley,” she wrote. “From countless God stories, worship nights, crazy cities all over the world it’s safe to say it’s never ever ever boring with you. Hehe love you so much and I’m so proud of you.”
At this time, Davis and Rachel have limited the comments on their recent posts. However, when someone in the comment section of Davis’ post asked him “when’s the wedding date?” he made it clear that he and Rachel are very serious.
“That’s what we’ve been talking about!” he replied.
