Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson Says Her Dad Sugar Bear Only Sees Her When They Film; Reveals Sad Reason He Neglects Her

“Can I get some decent parents, PLEASE?!”

Poor Alana Thompson says she’s given up trying to have a relationship with her father.

Alana– otherwise known as “Honey Boo Boo” and her sister Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon recently sat down with OK! magazine to discuss the status of the relationship that Alana has with her father, Mike “Sugar Bear” Thompson. According to the Mama June: From Not to Hot stars, ol’ Sugar Bear is basically M.I.A. from Alana’s life.

“The only time I ever see him is if we’re filming with him, which is very rarely,” Alana said of her dad. “I tell myself all the time, I’m not going to put effort into something where there’s no effort being put in by the other person, or the other person doesn’t even care. So I’m not going to care about something that the other person don’t care about.

“He knows that I think we should have a better relationship, that we should see each other, like, once a month,” she added.

The whole motley crew during happier times in 2015…

To solve that pesky “parenting” problem, Sugar Bear used his noggin and basically scheduled himself to be a dad at the same time every month…via a single text.

“He textses her, but he textses her the same text message over and over again,” Pumpkin said. (And, yes, she said “textses.”)

“Like, he copies and pastes!” Alana said. “Or, he has a set time every day— well, it’s not even every day he texts me— it’s probably once every month, and he has a set time [every month], and he sends the exact same text. He has it on a schedule.”

June Shannon, who— as The Ashley told you, is facing some serious drug charges following her recent gas station brawl/drug bust with boyfriend Geno Doak— currently has no relationship at all with The Bear.

“She doesn’t talk to him,” Alana said. “The only time she’ll talk to him is if we have to film but she doesn’t even really talk to him then.”

(‘Member when everyone was happy and doing the “Honey Boo Boo Bop” together? Sigh…those were the days!)

While Sugar Bear does send her Christmas gifts, Alana said that he would have no clue as to when her birthday is.

“He’d be like, ‘It’s sometime in August, that’s all I know.’ It’s not that hard to remember my birthday,” Alana said.

“So yer tellin’ me I need to remember every one of them birthdays?! Danggammit!”

According to Alana, there’s a pretty sad reason for why Sugar Bear chooses to be absent from her life.

“I feel like [he doesn’t want to be part of my life] because I’m not a boy,” she said. “When my mom [was pregnant and] told Sugar Bear that I was going to be a girl, he didn’t want me. He was just like, ‘I wanted a boy.’ So now he’s with Jennifer and Joseph is Jennifer’s son, and he pays more attention to Joseph than he does me. And I feel like that’s only because I’m a girl and he wanted a boy.”

  1. She was saddled with shit parents, I will give her that. It completely and utterly sucks, and so many children, the world over, are in the same boat. By the same token, though, as heartbreaking as it seems at times (and it does I won’t downplay that), you can move past it. You can do better, s you can be be better. You now have ample evidence telling you how not to be, what not to do. So much, in fact, that you have all the tools you need to avoid putting others in the same position you’re in now.

That whole mess of folks needs so much work, it’s unreal. As hard as it can be at times to face reality, you sort of have to when it repeatedly slaps you upside the head. Holding out faith that reality is going to up and change on you one day is an exercise in futility, not strength. Move on, make something great out of your life, do something better with yourself, take CARE of yourself, and don’t let your past dictate how your future goes. You can use it as a stepping stone, a jumping off point, sure, but using it to keep yourself relevant, or rather, letting others use it to keep you relevant, is going to end in disaster. This girl needs so much help it’s not even funny. She’s not healthy in mind, body or spirit, and it will kill her someday-and yes her upbringing is the cause of that. She needs someone to slap her (not literally) upside the head with an actual reality. She needs people willing to help her do better, be better and move the hell on from her past-get away from the shit, out of the limelight. I don’t say that lightly, or to be mean, but, she’s kinda stuck in a perpetual spin and it’s taking her down the drain. I feel bad saying someone is never going to amount to anything, and I do hope she gets out of it, honestly, but at this rate, she’s going to end up worse than BOTH of her parents, assuming she even lives as long as they do. No one is helping her, not really, unless it benefits them.

    1. Alana is huge. She’s gonna end up diabetic if someone doesn’t step in and monitor this child’s diet. I imagine her mother is cracked out a lot these days and probably neglects her kid.

  2. If I had a Dad like Sugar Bear, not to even mention he calls himself Sugar Bear, I would want an absent Dad. A bunch of trailer trash hicks that found a way out and none of them have the sense to know what to do. Or they just plain didn’t want out.

  3. I have to say I’m impressed with pumpkin and her sticking together for her sister and having a level head in all this mess

  4. The only way that Alana could know her father was disappointed when her mother was pregnant and found out the gender is if her mother told her that. So her mother is bad mouthing her father. That’s awful and sad. What a bunch of trashy idiots.

  5. Please…we can’t be this desperate. I guess we’ll try anything to get the spotlight off Momma June. And life goes on for the has beens .. oops, I meant the rich and famous

  6. “I feel like [he doesn’t want to be part of my life] because I’m not a boy,” she said. “When my mom [was pregnant and] told Sugar Bear that I was going to be a girl, he didn’t want me. He was just like, ‘I wanted a boy.’ Said every father since the dawn of time!

    1. Eh, I think there are some men that just aren’t ready for a child period. Take Ryan Edwards, he didn’t care what the sex was, just didn’t want to grow up and be an active parent.

    2. There are PLENTY of men who are excited to have a little girl. My dad was for example. So I call BS on your theory.
