Actors, Singers, Athletes & a Former Press Secretary: Meet the ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Season 28 Cast

“We’d like 15 more minutes of fame, please!”

Get ready to see a random group of celebrities put on their dancing shoes for a chance to take home the coveted Mirror Ball trophy when Dancing with the Stars returns to ABC on September 16.

The newest ‘DWTS’ cast was revealed Wednesday on Good Morning America, with each competitor breaking the ice with some awkward dance moves upon their introductions.

Check out the cast for Season 28 that will be battling it out on the dance floor… with the help of their respective pro-dancer partners, of course.

Karamo Brown, Queer Eye Culture Expert

Karamo, who previously appeared on The Real World: Philadelphia in 2004 and also on The Challenge, proudly announced on GMA that he’s the only member of the ‘Queer Eye’ Fab Five with any rhythm. In addition to showing off his dance moves, Karamo said he’s looking forward to rocking some fun outfits this season.

“I want the sequins, I want the moves, I want it all,” he said.

Hannah Brown, The Bachelorette

As The Ashley told you earlier this week, ‘Bachelorette’ Hannah has signed on for the dancing competition reality show, after having appeared on both The Bachelor (Colton Underwood‘s season) and most recently, ‘The Bachelorette.’

Before announcing her run for the ‘DWTS’ Mirror Ball trophy, Hannah gave her Instagram followers a look at some of the moves she’ll be bringing with her this season.

Let’s just hope Hannah’s ‘DWTS’ experience ends on a better note than her ‘Bachelorette’ season did.

James Van Der Beek, Actor

Best known as Dawson from ‘Dawson’s Creek,’ James recently appeared on the FX series ‘Pose’ and is also a writer and producer. (But…let’s be honest: he can do whatever he wants and he’ll always be Dawson.) He has some dancing experience under his belt as well, as he said he and his family (including his FIVE kids) dance “all the time at home, constantly.”

James shared the news of his latest gig on Instagram, telling his followers that “the craziest choices are always my favorite ones,” along with a “YesItsHappening” hashtag.

Christie Brinkley, Supermodel

Despite currently starring as Roxie Hart in “Chicago” on Broadway, Christie says her theater experience won’t be giving her an advantage in the ‘DWTS’ competition this season.

“No, not at all — I think of the real dancers like, they could knock their own teeth out with their knee,” she said. “I can barely get my leg up and believe me, what I learned in ‘Chicago’ doing the honey rag, you cannot — dance to Beyonce doing the honey rag, so I need some moves.”

Kate Flannery, Actress

Kate, known best for her role as Meredith Palmer on NBC’s ‘The Office,’ said she’s ready to bring on the glitz, glam and Spanx this season as she breaks away from what she calls “the most unglamorous character on TV.”

Ray Lewis, Former NFL Linebacker

With two Super Bowl Championships to his name, (and some sweet pre-game dance moves) Ray is looking to add ‘DWTS’ Champ to his list of accomplishments… though he’s been given some strict instructions from his daughter.

” … She was like, ‘Dad, please don’t embarrass me.'”

Despite his daughter’s warning, Ray told his Instagram followers that he’s not holding back.

“I don’t think y’all are ready for this. I’m bringing it,” he wrote.

Lamar Odom, Former NBA Player & Kardash-a-Husband

Aside from his NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers, Lamar is also known as the ex-husband of Khloe Kardashian and for appearing on Keeping Up With the Kardashians. While Lamar has publicly battled addiction, he said ‘DWTS’ is an intimidating new challenge… especially the outfits.

“I don’t know if I can do sparkles,” he said.

Lamar shared the ‘DWTS’ news on Instagram, thanking “Team Odom” for their support and adding, “I don’t think the world is ready to see my dance moves yet!”

Lauren Alaina, County Singer

Lauren was the runner-up on Season 10 of American Idol and has since released two albums.

The 24-year-old told fans she “can’t wait” to dance for the Mirror Ball trophy this season.

Ally Brooke, Singer

Former member of the girl-group Fifth Harmony, Ally is now a solo artist who is ready to show her haters that she actually does have some moves, despite the criticism she’s received from some of her music video dancing.

“This is an opportunity for me to not only prove [to] them but to myself that I can really tackle this,” she said.

Sean Spicer, Former White House Press Secretary

After having resigned as Press Secretary and White House Communications Director in July 2017, Sean said he’s ready to take on a new challenge: dancing machine. His plan to make it happen: “work really, really, really hard every day,” he said.

“Game on! Excited to join this seasons awesome cast on Dancing with the Stars,” Sean shared on social media, along with a photo of some of his fellow competitors. “Definitely going to be way outside my comfort zone, but will have some fun and hopefully get some votes!”

Kel Mitchell, Actor

Kel made a name for himself in the 1990s on Nickelodeon shows including All That and Kenan and Kel, and as it turns out, he’s already been working on his moves at home with his wife.

“When we got the call, she’s like, ‘let me see some moves, let’s go,” he said. “We’re dancing every day in the house.”

Mary Wilson, Singer

Mary may be the eldest competitor this season at 75 years-old, but the founding member of The Supremes is ready to bring it, and her 11 grandchildren are already rooting for her to bring home the win.

“For years they never allowed me to even have my gold records in the house,” she said. “So now that they’ve watched ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ I’m like, ‘Hey, grandma is cool!'”

The celebs’ pro-dancer pairs won’t be revealed until the premiere, however, returning pros will include Valentin Chmerkovskiy, Sasha Farber, Alan Bersten, Brandon Armstrong, Gleb Savchenko, Keo Motsepe, Witney Carson, Peta Murgatroyd, Lindsay Arnold, Jenna Johnson, Emma Slater and Cheryl Burke; newcomers Daniella Karagach and Pasha Pashkov will also be joining.

Season 28 of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ premieres September 16 on ABC.

  1. Surprise, surprise! Another bachelorette “who was just looking for love on TV” suddenly on another reality TV show!

  2. Sean Spicer…really? He will not last past the first episode. I guess there are not many opportunities available for him anymore lol!

    1. Actually he’s somewhat successful even aftr his lying gig for the president. Heard a interview w/ him on POTUS this am. Pretty interesting. But yes not sure how long he’ll last. Stiff competition

  3. Oh man Karamo had my favorite one-liner of all time on The Real World and now I cannot for the life of me remember it. Driving me nuts trying to think of it.

How come Lamar isn’t in the group photo?

  4. Good to see Spicer’s life has turned out so well he’s going on Dancing with the Stars… (Press Secretaries are NOT stars, even if they’re the mouthpiece of a former reality star POTUS)
