‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’ Returns with a New Host & Special Guests to Renovate the Homes of 10 Deserving Families

“Ready or not, here come the emotional home renovations!”

Prepare for plenty of bus moving in the new year — Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is getting the reboot treatment!

HGTV has announced that the community-led home transformation show will return to TV (moving from ABC to HGTV) in February with 10 new episodes, a new host, celebrity guests and a trio of regularly-appearing designers ready to customize homes for each of the families featured on the show.

Taking over hosting duties for the rebooted series is actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson, according to HGTV. Joining Jesse along the way are 10 special celebrity guests, including Anthony Anderson, Derek Hough, Ty Pennington, LeAnn Rimes, Laila Ali, Tyler Florence and HGTV stars David Bromstad, Tamara Day, Tarek El Moussa and Jasmine Roth. Designers for the show are Breegan Jane, Carrie Locklyn and Darren Keefe

Also working alongside Jesse, the special guests and designers will be neighbors and local building experts — in typical ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’ fashion — as the deserving family featured on each episode receives a life changing home renovation.

In a sneak peek released by the network, viewers get a glimpse at the emotional and inspirational reveals in store for the series reboot.

“Today’s short teaser video is just a taste of what everyone can expect from ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,'” said Jane Latman, president of HGTV. “We reimagined television’s most iconic home renovation show. We cast Jesse as host, reviewed hundreds of deeply emotional family stories, added more special guests who have a passion to help others, and executed truly unbelievable, life-changing, whole-home renovations.

“Basically what she’s saying is prepare to ugly cry.”

“With help from more than 10,000 volunteers — families, friends and neighbors — sharing more than 560,000 hours of their own time, we improved the lives of 10 special families and created another can’t miss television series on HGTV.”

The new episodes will be produced by Endelmol Shine North America — the same company that produced the original version of the show for ABC.

‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’ premieres Sunday, February 16 on HGTV. Check out a sneak peek below!

  1. One of the biggest issues with the first show was the number of families who had to foreclose their homes, because they were given mansions that they couldn’t afford, so I hope this show helps with the mortgage or helps with it in some way. Most of the families didn’t have a lot of money, hence the reason their homes were so dilapidated, so I have no clue what made them build these people 6 bedrooms castles, with electricity bills to cry over with all the electronic stuff they gave, and expected them to be able to pay for it!

  2. I am happy for the families that you have chosen. I just like to know how do you choose the families? I am a grandmother raising 6 grandchildren and I enter my information to you Extreme Makeover. We are about to be homeless but the home we are renting owner or selling. We need a 5 bedroom home or we will end up in shelter. I would like to know why I wasn’t chosen.

  4. They did 2 houses for 2 families in my county. Not only were the families very deserving, the houses are incredibly beautiful. The community really rallied around these families. I can’t wait to see their episodes.
