Amber Portwood was back to ranting on TikTok Live over the weekend and, this time, the former (?) Teen Mom star was set off by followers’ comments informing the person she was battling with on TikTok that Amber had “abandoned” her daughter, Leah. When the man questioned Amber as to why neither of her children live with her, Amber went off— bragging about her long, storied career on reality TV and defending her parenting skills and history.
Allow The Ashley to break it all down for you…
Amber was (as usual) on TikTok Live with some random guy— who appears to have no idea who Amber was and knows limited English. When he asked why Amber had so many people on her Live, Amber– never one to pass up the chance to brag about being famous— proceeded to tell the random dude that she is famous from being on “the longest-running franchise on MTV.”
“About 20 years I was on television,” Amber bragged, to which the random dude started laughing.
Amber then insisted that she’s “trying to retire” from the show– for the third time— but she’s still under contract. (As The Ashley previously told you, Amber revealed in March that she has quit ‘Teen Mom: The Next Chapter.’) As Amber goes on about her reality television career, the man starts reading the comments being posted on their Live… and that’s when things started to get tense.
The self-proclaimed “damn good mom” was not happy when the man read a comment from a follower that claimed Amber “abandoned her daughter.”
The man— who, again, appeared to have no knowledge of Amber’s history or family life— then read a comment from someone who stated that Amber has “children she doesn’t see.” (As ‘Teen Mom’ fans know, Amber is the mother of 16-year-old daughter, Leah, with whom she’s currently estranged from, and son James, who is about to turn seven and lives in California with his father, Andrew Glennon.)
“That’s not true at all. No,” Amber replied in regard to the comment about her not seeing her kids. “First of all, I see all of my children. And not only that, I have an amazing relationship.”
The guy on Amber’s Live is ready to move on to other topics, but Amber is fired up and tells him to be quiet so she can “clear up” what is being said about her relationship with Leah.
“You talk a lot! Let me talk!” the man tells Amber.
Amber ignores his plea to let him get a word in and proceeds to explain that the problems in her and Leah’s relationship are because Leah is a teenager.
“Things happen! We’re going to be OK,” Amber insists, before telling him that she has an “amazing” relationship with her son James. “…My daughter’s 16. She’s going through her 16 phase. We’re gonna be OK. It’s starting to calm down a little bit anyways.
“[The fans] are going off of [things they’ve seen on] a show I’m trying to quit!” Amber tells the man (all while the One Direction song “That’s What Makes You Beautiful” randomly plays in the background…naturally.) “Anyone who is going to be on my Live, you’re going to show me respect or you’re not going to be on my Live anymore!”
Amber then begins to brag about being a big cheese in the reality TV world.
“I’m very respected in what the f**k I do!” Amber insisted. “Whether people know it or not, I’m very respected. So I will not take that. There’s no other show that is the longest-running franchise on MTV.”
Answer:
The random man doesn’t seem impressed with Amber’s TV career, much to the future LazyBoy spokesperson’s dismay. She scolds the man for reading the comments about her parenting.
“Whoever is saying that I don’t have my daughter is wrong,” she says. “I have joint custody of my daughter.”
“I was going to rehab, so I signed my rights over for [Leah’s dad Gary Shirley] to have primary [custody]. And that was over 10 years ago,” Amber added.
The man is still confused about Amber’s custody situation and asks the simple question, “So where is your son?”
“Again, another situation where he’s with his father,” Amber replied. “I am here, but we are not together. But I see my son all the time and I talk to my son all the time….I know the truth; [the fans are] just going off of MTV.”
At the utterance of “MTV,” Ambie made a face like she just smelled the inside of Farrah Abraham‘s driveway porta-potty, to let everyone know that she is none-too-fond of the network these days.
The man is still confused about the living situations of Amber’s children and then asks another question.
“Your daughter or son, not live with you?” he asks Amber in broken English. “They not live with you?”
The question seems to tick Amber off even more, and she begins to launch into an explanation.
“I have no guilt for what I did in my twenties, darling!” Amber says.
“Why they’re not living with you?” the man asks Amber again of her kids.
Amber prepares to verbally go for this man’s jugular. (We know this because she does the head tilt and squinty eyes combo, a sure sign that Portwood is able to strike.)
However, Amber pauses for a moment, seemingly trying to figure out a way to answer that question.
“Your son and daughter. They live with your husband, with your ex?” he asks her again.
Amber finally settles on an explanation and ask the man if he knows what an addict is.
“Do you know what fentanyl is?” she asks. “That’s what I was addicted to the last time, and that’s what I withdrew off of. So, you can tell your little people over there to go f**k off! I almost died three times!”
The man seems surprised (and, honestly, a bit scared) at how quickly the anger flowed out of Amber, but she continued to explain that Leah “was given” to Gary so that Leah didn’t see Amber on drugs or getting beat up by her “all her exes.”
“I’ve been shutting my mouth for a long f**king time!” Amber ranted, before explaining why she doesn’t have custody of her son, James.
“[That] was a bulls**t lie. But I have an amazing relationship with my ex [Andrew] and with my son. Amazing. So you guys need to stop f**king judging addicts and people who have four mental illnesses and leave us the f**k alone.
“I am a good mom for everything that I f**king deal with!” she added.
By this time, the man seems to have totally tuned Amber out, and looks like he’s trying to figure out why this American woman keeps screaming at him. However, Amber keeps going.
“You don’t judge people who f**ked up when they were younger, OK?” she said. “I’ll be 35 on May 14th. Everybody grow the f**k up. I am not the only person in the world that is like this. I’m not the worst person.”
Amber goes on to tell the man— who, mind you, by this time is barely keeping his eyes open— that she fought for her kids and was an addict and mentally unstable.
“Today I’m not an addict and I’m not mentally unstable!” Amber insisted, later adding, “I’m a very nice person! …But I will not be judged!”

I have 4 mental illnesses. Bpd, BP1, PTSD and anxiety disorder. I went through absolute hell growing up. Two narcissist parents. One of them also being a raging alcoholic. Just insane shit. It does happen. The difference is that I don’t use it as a crutch. I work. My kids are doing amazing in college. I showed up and no matter how I felt . I put my kids first. Luckily my psychotic episodes never involved them. I was very careful about the things I said to them. I never ever wanted to act like me parents.
The legal definition of parental abandonment in Indiana is not having communication or adequate visitation with the child for atleast 1 year without good cause when a reasonable effort could have been made. So with that being said yes Amber you did in fact abandoned your daughter.
She doesn’t have joint custody of Leah. As she admitted, she signed custody over to Gary. But, she has never actually made an attempt to get any custody or visitation rights back. There has never been a custody case or hearing for Leah because Amber has never bothered.
At what point is Teen Mom going to cut ties with this lunatic?
Then why can’t Kristina adopt Leah if Gary allows it? I believe they have joint legal and split physical custody. Amber has visitation rights. I don’t think she has 0 custody rights, otherwise Leah could have been adopted years ago.
That’s not how step parents adoption works. The birth parents rights have to be terminated, either voluntarily or by a judge. It doesn’t have anything to do with custody. My sons father never had anything to do with him but I had to hire a lawyer and have a judge terminate his rights before my husband could adopt him.
Exactly- so that means Amber still has rights. Her rights have NOT been terminated- she still shares custody with Gary which is why Kristina can’t adopt her.
It doesn’t have anything to do with custody. A person can have no custody, no visitation, pay no child support, but still legally be their parent. I don’t know what the case is with them. I’m just saying. Parental rights comes down to whose name is listed on the birth certificate. Amber is listed as her mother on her birth certificate. That’s what it comes down to.
Just leave already Amber. You have been closer to the men in your life as you did Leah. You have lost her and it’s your fault.

I have so many questions about this man? Like how did they meet? Does he think it’s acceptable to meet someone and do a live with them? Did he learn his lesson? Is he still alive or did amber get him with a machete?
It’s almost as if she believes the bs she spews. She can blame mtv all she wants but we heard it straight from friggin Leah!

My guess is that she’s abusing pills again, possibly coke or meth too. I’m leaning towards meth, because it would exacerbate her mental health issues to an extreme. She needs help, treatment AND counseling. Gary needs to file to get her parental rights terminated. She needs to be away from the cameras, away from social media, away from the enablers. She needs help ASAP before the next article we are reading is either her OD’ing, her unaliving herself, or her in jail. It’s obviously gotten THAT serious, this is not just a manic episode. Someone needs to help her.
It takes an addict to spot an addict, especially an addict who’s lying to everyone about being sober.
People are enabling her when they act like this. She is a narcissist. Pretending she is so far gone that she is in danger is enabling and gives her ammunition to pity herself.
Which is one of many reasons she needs help.🤷🤦
Not that I disagree but getting her parental rights terminated isn’t going to change anything. She doesn’t really have any rights anyway. Let’s be real “rill” here, Kristina has more rights than Amber does. Leah is going to be 18 in 2 years and at that point Kristina will adopt her. However none of this will stop the crazy train. I just feel sad though. Everybody knows Amber is not in a good place but everyone who has the ability to step in and help her is just standing back and watching her go up in flames again. It’s sad. No one will step in and help her or legally commit her because honestly that is what she so desperately needs. They’re just using her craziness for pure entertainment. MTV are you listening?
🙄 commit her? For what? For being an abusive couch potato? Step in and do what? Tell her to grow up? This mindset makes no sense. She’s a full grown adult who only cares about herself. It happens all the time. If we committed every adult who put themselves above all else, we’d need full blown communities for narcissistic abusers.
Until (note I didn’t say unless, because this is likely inevitable) she is a direct physical danger to herself (read: her own mortality, not mentality) and/or others, there is literally nothing anyone can do legally. Unfortunately, this is how things work, the world over, when it comes to mental illnesses and the problems they present. You can’t legally get someone committed just because they are acting batshit crazy, refuse to take their meds, substitute their own substances for their meds, randomly go off on social media or generally behave like an unhinged whackadoodle. There has to be just cause for a legal intervention. Amber knows this, she’s been told this, countless times, by professionals and quite likely the court as well. Amber has ample help available to her and what she lacks in monetary resources will and can be provided by the numerous different agencies and organizations that do help people who struggle getting the mental help they need. She chooses not to utilize the vast amounts of help available to her and instead uses the issues she does have as not only a crutch to get by in life, but an excuse to do and say whatever she wants. She does have mental illnesses, obviously, but she plays them up quite a bit, she knows how to use them to her own (perceived) advantage.
The fact that Amber doesn’t have custody or any real physical contact with her children only enables this even more. She’s not an actual physical danger to them, because they are never around her, especially unsupervised. She’s also been told this as well-which is why it’s her most often wielded weapon of choice.
Amber, you may not be the worst person in the world, but that means that the bar is so low that it melted in the earth’s mantle.
And you’re no longer an addict or mentally ill? That is definitely NOT how either of those things work, sweetie.

Just ONE time and pay attention to all the ads airing right now saying that the kids that were born when you started the show are now 16. That means that you’ve been on TV 16 years. Not 20. I would say to ask Leah for clarification, but it’s unlikely that Amber even remembers that she has a daughter unless she’s playing the victim or a camera crew is around so that she can earn a paycheck.
Don’t forget that she was also in jail for some time so it hasn’t even been 16 years.
