Amber Portwood Claims MTV is Trying to Push Her Daughter Leah to Forefront of Spinoff About the ‘Teen Mom’ Kids: “Time for It to Stop!”

“You’ll never be me, kid. Don’t even try. There’s only one Amber Portwood.”

During one of her latest TikTok Live rants, Amber Portwood defended her decision to continuously speak out against the Teen Mom franchise, claiming that her ultimate goal is to prevent her teenage daughter, Leah Shirley, from going through what she went through on the reality series. Throughout her hours-long Live on Monday night, Amber claimed that the show’s producers are trying to get Leah prepared to star on a new spin-off show about the ‘Teen Mom’ teenagers.

Amber has made a habit of taking to TikTok Live as of late to rant about everything from her issues with ‘Teen Mom’ and some of her co-stars, to her mental health struggles, to estranged relationship with Leah, whom she shares with ex Gary Shirley.

Earlier this week, Amber claimed that her recent decision to leave the MTV franchise to try to prevent Leah from appearing on the alleged spin-off about the kids of ‘Teen Mom’ that she claims the franchise’s producers are trying to make happen.

Leah and some of the other ‘Teen Mom’ kids on the latest episode of ‘Teen Mom: The Next Chapter’…

“I don’t want her to go through what I went through,” Amber said. “I don’t want her to be pushed to the forefront [of a show]. I don’t want it, guys. I just want her to understand and not be judgmental … .”

“They’re trying to take my daughter right now and push her to the forefront so they can have a new show with the kids!” Amber insisted later in the Live.

Amber was also unhappy about some of her castmates having on-camera conversations with Leah. (During recent episodes, Cheyenne Floyd spoke to Leah about her relationship with Amber, as did Maci Bookout and Catelynn Lowell.)

“Now MTV is pushing [Leah] to the forefront. And also flying out people from other states to come and talk to my daughter about us,” Amber said. “What do these girls on this show know anything about what I’ve been through, what I’m going through or what my daughter’s been through? They don’t know anything. They’re not therapists, psychiatrists or anything.”

I did take that microblading course, so it’s basically the same thing.”

Amber claimed that she spoke with a producer on Monday night and expressed her concerns about the ‘Teen Mom’ kids show idea; however, according to her, the producer had “no remorse.” She also claimed that the show’s producers made Cate & Co. have the on-air conversations with Leah, something Amber took personally.

“I never knew that I was going to get bullied and torn down by a franchise I helped build tremendously,” Amber stated.

While Amber claimed there’s a spin-off about the ‘Teen Mom’ kids being talked about by the network, no one else on the ‘Teen Mom’ cast has mentioned or confirmed that this spin-off is actually being discussed. However, ‘Teen Mom’ dad Cory Wharton did reveal in April that the MTV series is currently “on pause” and that the cast is “waiting to get green lit” for the next season of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter.

Raise your hand if you’re anxiously awaiting that phone call…

In between getting emotional on TikTok Live and responding to comments in the chat, a tearful Amber explained this week that “the only way” she can ensure that Leah doesn’t experience what she experienced on reality TV is by Amber walking away from the franchise herself.

“What I wanna say is I love my daughter enough to leave hundreds of thousands of dollars,” she said, presumably referring to her decision to quit ‘Teen Mom.’

Amber’s firing off on TikTok Live this week…

In addition to accusing a “really big company”– presumably MTV or the production company behind ‘Teen Mom’– of pushing an “agenda,” Amber told fans that she “gave so much” of herself to the franchise, only to experience things that “weren’t good.” Amber didn’t go into detail about what she was referring to with this comment and instead, told viewers that she couldn’t talk about it on TikTok Live. She did, however, reiterate that she doesn’t want her daughter “to do [the show] anymore.”

In response to someone in the chat who suggested that Amber needed to get off of TikTok Live as “it’s not helping anything,” Amber insisted again that she was speaking out on the platform for a reason.

As if this superimposed cowboy outfit isn’t reason enough…

“ … I’ve spent half my life just trying to help people because of the pain that I went through and was going through, but it’s time for it to stop,” she said. “MTV or 11th Street [Productions] … I don’t know what they’re thinking or what they’re doing … .”

While Amber may not want to see her daughter continue appearing on ‘Teen Mom’ (or any alleged spin-offs) Leah recently told People magazine that she enjoys sharing her story on TV.

“Don’t get any ideas, Amber…this doesn’t mean I’m down to come over for on-camera couch chats with you.”

“For me, having my life captured on TV has been a blessing,” Leah told the outlet. “I like being able to share my story and help other people who have gone through some of the things I’ve been through.”

New episodes of ‘Teen Mom: The Next Chapter’ air Thursdays on MTV.

  1. Amber, you aren’t leaving hundreds of thousands of dollars because of your love for Leah. You are quitting because you cannot control producers any longer. Leah is grown, SHE HAS A VOICE, the show has shifted and they are showing the raw reality of a neglected child. You don’t have neither one of your two children bc you are abusive, violent, dismissive, delusional and in general a very dangerous person with multiple mental health disorders that are not under control. You are completely irrelevant to the show.
For what I’ve seen, all of these famous for nothing -used to be- teen moms are going to be replaced with their teen children.

  2. The only way for me to prevent my kid from making their own choices is to make a choice that doesn’t affect them… super sound logic 😂

  3. IF this is true(Amber isn’t exactly the more reliable source ever). It is crazy that Gary or any of the other parents would consider it.I get they don’t want to lose the money but how sad is it that Leah or any of the other kids have a clue what life is like without a camera in their face?
That being said, Amber’s ranting on Tik tok… for someone who doesn’t have custody of either of her kids, it’s laughable she’ thinks she’s helping anyone when she can’t even help herself.

    1. Likely because she often needs a little help standing up, especially for extended periods of time (like photoshoots). She’s using the 6 for that. She’s not that far away from Bentley, their elbows are touching, lol.

  4. We know Amber is insane and that Leah seems incredibly uncomfortable filming now. So why does Garry and Christina continue to force their daughter to film? $$$$$$$ Yes, I include “wonderful and amazing mom” Christina in this. Does Cristina even have a real job?

      1. Agreed. Kristina stepped up when Amber sat down. She didn’t have to love Leah like she did but she’s a good person.

    1. They at one point talked about her going to nursing school but not sure whatever came of that.
And yes Gary ain’t about to miss out on a cash grab.

      1. Gary stepped to the plate and made sure his daughter was out of harm. He definitely always has Leah’s best interest first and foremost.

    2. Force her???? Honestly, Gary has always done the best for Leah, so if Leah didn’t want to be part of the show she wouldn’t be. The hard part for Leah is Amber’s actions.

  5. Oh please amber we all know you don’t give a 💩 about Leah
All you care about is amber, men, fame and money.
Leah is a very intelligent young lady that can make her own choices like she has already told you.
She’s also a caring and compassionate young lady that wants her story to help others, she don’t want people to feel alone and unworthy like you made her feel in all these years.
Amber you’re doing all these bs tik toks cause you want to stay relevant when tbh you’re irrelevant

  6. And your issue with that is that you don’t have a relationship with her so it would not benefit you, right?

  7. While I also think there is something in the works for a spinoff and that should NOT happen (this show needs to stop and these kids have been exploited long enough), it’s not Amber’s place to make any sort of decision for Leah. She had her chance to help Leah make life choices and decided to blow it time and time again. For men, drugs and herself.

  8. Leah wants to talk about things that Amber has done to her. Let that girl speak about whatever she wants to. Do you pay child support? 99% sure you don’t. You are making things worse by these dumb ass posts. You are making things worse but you just can’t stop. Get a real job and let Leah have a great life with her dad and Kristina. You don’t get any awards for posting about you mental health. I think everyone is done with your mental health because you haven’t made any progress. You do a great job playing the victim. Get another opinion on your diagnosis because clearly nothing has changed.. Geez!

    1. Oh but didn’t you know? Amber and her already talked about all of it- Once. And now everything is resolved! Amber said Leah had no trauma to begin with, I mean she wasn’t physically beaten or anything… SMH Amber is as dense as they come. She clearly doesn’t understand that Trauma isn’t just from being physically assaulted. The only reason Amber doesn’t want Leah to be on TV is because she has no relationship with Amber and with that said, Amber wouldn’t have any access to her money. It’s comical that Amber claims she would “leave hundreds of thousands of dollars” for her daughter when she won’t even get her ass off her couch to go spend time with her and also because it’s not like Amber walked away- pretty sure MTV didn’t want her anymore anyway, regardless of what the situation was presented as. Amber seriously needs a good dose of accountability and some intensive therapy because clearly she’s delusional.

  9. Amber claims to have all these mental illnesses, she may have one or two (including agoraphobia) but I think her main issue is that she’s just an entitled a$$hole. She claims that Leah does not have any trauma, but constantly cries about how much trauma she has from her childhood, then it was revealed that her mother “not being there” was because she had a 9-5 (something Amber can not relate to). That being said, I need the tell-alls from Leah, Sophia, and Jace in my life!!!

    1. I completely agree with you.

Amber uses her BPD and bipolar illnesses as an excuse for ALL of her bad behavior. Never has she ever taken accountability or worked on herself. When confronted about anything, she doubles down. She’s always a victim with fake tears to try to garner sympathy.

      1. My mother in law is this way. We had to cut her out. She would use her mental diagnosis to excuse every single awful thing she did. And no matter what she did to you, she was always the victim. With the tears and the manipulation. I have no patience for people like her and Amber. We all have problems. We’ve all had bad things happen in our lives. MOST people had a hard upbringing. Some people truly just really suck.

  10. Amber, if you’re reading this, just stop. Get off TikTok and whatever else, contact your daughter and apologize for your mistakes. Apologize and mean it then do better than you did before.

  11. While I wouldn’t be surprised at all if MTV was planning to switch to the teens (we’ve all seen this coming), Amber’s only issue about that would be her not being included/paid and Leah being able to share her story from her point of view.

If the teens do get their own show, I think they’d handle it better than their parents did. They’ve grown up on TV and they’ve see stupid things their parents did on air and with their money. Hopefully, they’ll have learned through that. Unfortunately, I don’t see any of them being able to have a completely normal life at this point, so they may as well get paid and show life on their own terms instead of their parents talking about them.

    1. Yep. Leah is getting to the age where Mommy Dearest will not be benefitting financially.
That, and she’ll have no control over the storylines.

I’d be fine with it if it were going to pay for Leah’s college, help her purchase a home, etc, but if it’s just forced conversations about Amber… No. We already have that show.

    2. I agree. Their lives are already on TV and have been since before they were born. These kids may as well get their own show so they can have a voice, share their own stories and get financially compensated for it.

  12. Amber, please get a second and third opinion about whatever diagnoses you have and the treatments that they would recommend.
There’s a lot going on in that live and absolutely none of it is helping your children.

  13. She just needs to stop but I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re actually going to try to do a spinoff. It does sound likely.

  14. As usual, Amber pretends that she’s altruistic and well-meaning after behaving in a way that’s obviously self-centered. It’s gotten so old.

  15. if amber really wants to prove to everyone she loves leah so much she’d stfu and and stop with the tiktok lives like leah asked

  16. It’s always interesting how the intense ‘desire to help others’ just happens to come with fame, money, and a TV deal. This wasn’t some selfless mission, it was a paycheck that came from being a teen mom. You didn’t sacrifice yourself and have millions looking to you for the answers. Get over yourself.
