Amber Portwood Says Her ‘Teen Mom’ Co-Stars Maci Bookout & Catelynn Lowell “Turned On Her” For Money

“Money never flipped us off on TikTok Live but…OK Amber.”

The longtime friendships Amber Portwood had with her Teen Mom co-stars Maci Bookout and Catelynn Lowell are apparently over.

Amber— who has been ranting on TikTok Live for the bulk majority of the last few days— was asked by a fan on TikTok Live on Monday for a status update on her relationship with Maci and Cate. It was then that the couch enthusiast revealed that her former friends are no longer loyal to her.

“You guys, they turned on me, too,” Amber said of Maci and Catelynn. “For money…they turned on me for money.”

As The Ashley previously reported, Amber flipped off Maci and Catelynn during a Live in March, denying that the girls have been good friends to her, as one fan stated. The next day, Amber was back on Live, apologizing to her friends for giving them the double bird salute. During her apology, Amber explained that she had been mad at Maci and Catelynn because they knew that Amber’s daughter, Leah, wanted to be adopted by stepmom Kristina Shirley, and the girls didn’t tell her. Maci and Catelynn had spoken to Leah’s dad, Gary, on-camera about the situation, making Amber feel like Cate and Maci were keeping it a secret from her.

However, once Amber spoke to Cate, she said she gained a different perspective on the situation, with Cate insisting that she thought Gary had told Amber.

“I’m over here riding therapy horses and trying to raise these Not-Carlys. I don’t have time for this crap.”

“ … Maci and Catelynn had came into town to see me [and] a certain person [Gary] had lied to them about what I knew, which was a really horrific situation, and somebody told them that I knew about this horrific situation, so they thought to not bring it up to me because they thought it was going to hurt me … ,” she said at the time. “…“They were lied to and I never knew that…So, I’m going to say right now, Cate and Maci, I’m so sorry, darlings, for flipping you off and doing that stuff. I did not know that you guys were lied to. I thought you were keeping a secret from me, and to be honest, I should’ve known better.”

In April, Amber did not mention Maci or Catelynn much, except to say that she thought they were still mad at her for what she did.

On Monday, however, Amber revealed that the girls are no longer her friends, because they chose “money” (and presumably the show) over their friendship.

“And I ain’t trying to find out what it’s like to have to clock in at a 9-to-5 job, OK?”

“They’re gonna follow the leader. I’m not a follower. I guess that’s the difference, right? I’m not a follower,” Amber said of Cate and Maci. “Have you guys not noticed that? For all you haters, I’m not a f**king follower. I don’t follow money. I don’t do that, sorry. I was actually dedicated to this show. Very dedicated. I really wanted to help people. And I did, and I’m still going to.”

In regard to Amber’s claim that Maci and Cate chose money over their friendship, Amber may be referring to the fact that Maci and Catelynn filmed a scene with Leah back in January in which they discussed Leah’s strained relationship with Amber. The scene— which aired during last week’s episode— did not show Maci and Cate bashing Amber; however, Amber may feel like the girls were convinced by production to film with Leah, therefore choosing the show — and money— over their loyalty to Amber. (This is The Ashley’s best guess; however, Amber did not confirm it.)

“That’s why I trust my puppets and not people! They’d never do me like this!”

During the very long Live, Amber mentioned People magazine— which recently published an article about the cast of ‘Teen Mom’ celebrating the franchise’s 16th anniversary. While Gary and Leah participated in the photoshoot and press day (as did Maci and Cate), Amber was left out.

People magazine, why? Why? We worked so much together, so many friends,” Amber said (although she didn’t reveal if that comment was aimed at the magazine or at the ‘Teen Mom’ cast members who participated in the shoot.)

  1. She’s turned on them cause they support Leah and want Leah to do what Leah wants to do.
Amber is just throwing her dummy out the pram cause more and more people are seeing the truth. Amber wants to play the hard done by victim but tbh she’s dug her own grave and it’s about time she lays in it and admits all her wrong doings.

  2. It’s a downward spiral but Maci and Cate had no business discussing matters that don’t have anything to do with them. Even if they were Ambers “friends” and Leah wanted to discuss it with them, it should have never been discussed and Gary shouldn’t have encouraged it. They know what they’re doing and while they were wrong obviously Amber needs to accept this. Dug her own self in this mess and should have seen it coming to be discussed.

  3. my guess is that amber’s mad that they didn’t quit the show like she encouraged them to when she did, meaning the show still have a reason to go on if the og’s are still on and wouldn’t get cancelled like she swore would’ve happened if she was off the show

  4. Amber- Did it EVER occur to you that maybe they don’t support the type of “mother” (I use that term as loosely as possible) you are? Hell, (even though she’s completely inappropriate about it) Cait tries harder to be in Carly’s life than you do in Leah’s life, and she gave her up for adoption for Christ’s sake! Just because you have a vendetta against MTV, doesn’t mean the other girls have to. And yeah maybe YOU perceive them as “following the money” but even if that were the only reason, they have actual children to support. Not everyone is deluded and opposed to accountability as you are. The only reason you don’t “Follow” people for money, is that would mean you’d have to get your ass up off the couch and also, you weren’t given the opportunity to “follow” money because MTV doesn’t want you around seeing as you really aren’t a mother! Someone else said that they try to give her grace because of her mental condition and I have too- I actually have been diagnosed BPD as well (which I HIGHLY believe Amber has), although my doctor says I am low on the “spectrum” of (mainly my symptoms/characteristics are being very afraid of abandonment, depression, impulsivity and addiction issues) but I have ALWAYS had full custody of my kids, a full time job, I am sober and I have always undergone/completed therapy that is recommended for people with BPD… I am always working on improving and am in a very good place in life. So, with that said, I just cannot give her an ounce more of grace. She has SO much time and so many more resources than I do to get better and improve, but she chooses not to. I have had to take a long hard look at myself and my behavior over time and have had to accept responsibility for my actions/choices and have had to take a lot of accountability. I highly suggest that Amber does the same and maybe she wouldn’t be where she is. it’s always someone else’s fault with her and everyone is “out to get her” and it’s exhausting to watch.

  5. It feels like Amber is now in just a constant state of spinning. I try to give her as much grace as I can due to all of her diagnoses, which she DOES readily discuss. It isn’t like some of the other people on the show who don’t even want to SEE they have some serious undiagnosed issues. And I DO think she takes accountability for her actions when she was undiagnosed and reeling in addiction. The issue starts when it comes her understanding that she can’t fall on her diagnoses and past addictions for what she does and what happens NOW. She HAS worked hard to be diligent with her medications and therapies, which is so much more than a LOT of people can say, but it’s like she wants everything to be forgiven or forgotten when she does loopy crap NOW. She wants so badly to say that everything she does because of her diagnoses should be looked over, and it just can’t be that way. She likely will never understand that even though it isn’t for lack of WANT, even with meds and therapies, her mental health still will get away from her. I think her waking up and surviving another day is a miracle in and of itself. Especially since she’s so active on social media, which is the WORST thing for her. People make a mockery of her and her situation and love to watch her spin and go down a rabbit hole she can’t get out of which makes it all even worse. At the heart of it, I think Amber is good, kind person and WANTS the best for herself and her loved ones, but her diagnoses just won’t ever really let her get there. That isn’t her fault necessarily, but it’s always going to be a heartbreak for her because she can’t really understand why it’ll never be “normal” for her. Gary, Kristina and Leah carry a very heavy load trying to navigate life though it all, which will never end too. The more I watch it all, the more I can see it’s all going to end badly. 🙁

  6. “I’m not a follower.” That’s only because following usually involves getting up.

Only thing Amber is following is a man or drugs.

  7. One minute she’s bashing the show saying she lies to get out of filming then the next she’s upset cause she’s not included. The cast has probably always felt you were a horrible mother they just never heard it straight from the horses mouth (Leah) & now that they have you can’t lie about it anymore. You are no longer Leah’s mouthpiece she speaks for herself now.

  8. No accountability.

I don’t think what they said was bad. They acknowledged she was their friend but that they had also tried to give advice.

Amber can’t stand anyone that isn’t saying she is a “damn good mom!”

  9. Well, she’s not wrong that Cate and Maci will follow the money. They don’t actually care that Amber abandoned Leah or has been a terrible mom. They’re just going to do and say whatever they need to so they get air time. So, if MTV wants them to be Amber’s friend and drive her from NC back to Iowa, fine. If MTV wants them to grill Leah about when she last saw Amber, also fine.

    Can this show end already?

  10. What’s so sad is that Amber has had so many people who genuinely cared for her. Maci and Cate, Gary and Kristina, Andrew and his family, her own children, I’m sure she has people on the MTV payroll she got close with, there were decent people who cared about her and really tried to help her. It’s “you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink” with Amber Portwood.

  11. I think this probably has something to do with her “quitting” the show a few weeks ago during one of her meltdowns. She was encouraging Maci and Cait to do the same thing, likely hoping they’d have more leverage in numbers and the producers would be begging them to stay or she was planning to have Maci and Cait say that they’d only stay if Amber was still on the show so that MTV would grovel and cater to her and inflate her ego even more. But when the other girls didn’t follow suit and throw a temper tantrum with her, all her plans backfired. Now she’s forced to go crawling back to MTV like the unemployable schmuck she is. And in her delusional mind, the fact that they weren’t willing to risk an easy check (on a show that’s sinking fast and probably willing to cut some dead weight anyway to save some money) to fix the consequences of her own actions, she considers that choosing money over friendship.

  12. Let’s be real They probably didn’t want to tell her because they knew it would hurt her, and they would probably get chased with a machete.

They didn’t turn is there back on her for many? They turn their back on her because she’s a shitty human being continue never mind mother

    1. Which really says something, because Cate and Maci have a tremendously high tolerance for bullshit

  13. Ambien’s sure as hell not following her daughter around, or any doctors’ recommendations, or any sobriety plan, so: stopped clocks being right, blah, blah, blah.

  14. Macy, Cait AND MTV is not going to support Amber‘s abusive behavior towards her own daughter Leah. Bashing Gary publicly in an attempt to make herself look better. And for the attention, Leah put that so well on TM. Amber better face it, and look in the mirror and take some accountability ready. Delulu

    1. I mean MTV didn’t care that she punched Gary on camera, repeatedly screamed at little Leah, drove high with Leah in the car, chasing Andrew down with a machete while he was holding their son, attacked Matt, etc. That’s just off the top of my head. MTV doesn’t have a moral compass. There was a reason they cut ties and I would like to believe that it was because of Leah but I honestly don’t. I know one thing for sure, Leah is such a strong, smart and resilient girl. I’m so proud of her. And as always I thank God that she has Kristina.
