Brittany Combs is opening about one thing that fans seem to be fascinated with: her headbands.
The 1000-lb. Sisters star— who is the sister-in-law of Tammy and Amy Slaton— recently revealed the reason she is always filmed and photographed wearing a wide headband. Her ever-present headbands have become a frequent topic discussed by fans on social media, so earlier this week, Brittany left some comments on the @AccordingtoAmber1 Instagram page to discuss them.
Brittany told fans that her headbands have a purpose and are not just a fashion accessory.
“I have thin hair on top and I wear the headband to cover it,” Brittany wrote in the comment section of a post in which fans were talking about her style and recent weight loss. “I feel very self-conscious about it.”
Brittany– who is rarely if ever featured on the show without some sort of head covering— pointed out that the show’s fans who criticize her headbands would likely ridicule her over how her hair looks if she showed it on TV.
“If I didn’t wear something people would be talking about how bad I look so either way someone is gonna talk about me. So I’m gonna keep wearing them because I like them and they make me feel more comfortable,” Brittany wrote.
During an appearance on the LOLCow Live YouTube show in March, Brittany’s sister-in-law Tammy was asked why Brittany always wears a headband or bandana.
“She has– it’s a condition. I used to have it, too,” Tammy replied. “With the hair, it kind of recedes early. It’s a little bit of an insecurity for her, so we don’t really talk about her or try to point it out.”

Tammy also revealed that Brittany’s religious beliefs play a part in how she looks.
“It’s also part of her religion,” Tammy continued. “She’s Pentecostal.”
Although Brittany always wears her hair tied up on the show, her tresses are actually incredibly long. Apostolic Pentecostal women do not cut or dye their hair, due to the way they interpret 1 Corinthians 11:3-16 in the Bible, which says that long hair is a glory to a woman, and that it is a shame for a woman to be “shorn.” They also refrain from wearing makeup or immodest clothing.
Brittany has discussed this a few times on the show, including in a bonus scene from Season 4 when Amanda Halterman tries to persuade Brittany to let her put makeup on her and give her a makeover.
“We don’t cut our hair because we believe it’s our glory,” Brittany explained. “God gives it to us.”
Brittany stated that she had never cut her hair before, not even a trim. As a result, her hair is now past her waist.

Let me see more than five pages!! Please…. ?
Why don’t any of them know how to wear a bra??!!
I want to say the same thing! For one of their adventures they should go for a formal bra fitting! All of them need some serious help! Tammy most of all!
At least wear a pretty one that doesn’t look like an ace bandage
Maybe I’m wrong. but wouldn’t covering it up, especially tightly the way a headband would, cause further hair loss or for it at least to not grow?
Unless it’s loose, you’re right. I’ll only wear a loose braid or ponytail I have thin spots. I do use stuff to help with the thinning, though.
Her hair is so heavy that could be part of the thinning problem…
If she has never cut her hair, why does it look like she has bangs in one of the photos? Is the back hair somehow more important than the front hair in God’s eyes? For a Christian, Brittany sure is full of jealousy and spite. She is so passive aggressive it’s not even funny.
Don’t think some of those pictures are real. She posted the pic herself of them at the meet and greet and she isn’t that thin
How old is Brittany?
30 something.
Her hair is gods glory? Nah, not that greasy frizzy mess, god called he said get a trim.
She may have a hormonal imbalance. Lack of estrogen causes hair loss. Women inherit female pattern baldness. You don’t have to choose to be unkind to people over things they can’t control. If you want to talk shit about what they say/do. That’s completely different.
I’m thinking it’s a porky interpreted and misunderstood quote that meant “it would be a shameful punishment for a woman have their hair forcibly shorn/shaved off.”
Which yeah, no, duh. Still, the same. You can be expelled from schools and charged with assault for forcibly cutting someone’s hair against their will.
I think it’s one of those evangelical things where their poor interpretation of the poor interpretation or the original Greek or Latin, twists the meaning to….”somehow” make it about how women aren’t allowed to make hair decisions for themselves at all and MUST HAVE LONG HAIR, when the original meaning was more nuanced.
The still bigoted “a good way to punish a woman is to shave all her head hair off against her will,” has somehow been interpreted by evangelicals as “even the woman herself is not allowed to trim pr style her hair as she likes…because it’s shameful to not have split-end hair down to your butt.”
The first interpretation is very close to the laws we have now: it is shameful and traumatizing to shave a woman’s head or give her a random short haircut against her will bc you’re punishing her for som thing.
The second interpretation is bizarre evangelical BS where they cherry pick certain verses without any context and then some very gross, misogynistic, likely pedophia-inclined evangelical “Pastor” tells his congregation that women aren’t allowed any choice in how to wear their hair. They it would be “a shame against God” to trim their ends….. conformity—by any way— is how they keep people brainwashed and giving money to the church, who then give that money to conservative political figures.
Good point-they’re going to talk anyway, might as well do it the way you want.
You know, good for her. I’ll never come for someone making a positive change in their life. I Hope she continues to wear those headbands since they make her feel comfortable, she deserves that. Unfortunately she’s right… People would absolutely ridicule her for showing her natural hair, too. When people should be celebrating her weight loss they are worried about what she wears on her head. You truly can’t win with society. I’m pulling a hard Tyra and rooting for all these people. Tammy especially. I can’t help but want to hang out with her and be her friend 😂 she cracks me up
