Seventeen-Year-Old ‘American Idol’ Star Triston Harper & Teenage Wife Welcome First Child

“I’m a teen parent— MTV call me!”

Former American Idol star Triston Harper is officially a dad.

Last week, the 17-year-old singer and his wife, Paris Reed, also 17 years old, welcomed their first child, daughter Brenley Lichelle Harper.

Fans will remember Triston from Season 22 of ‘American Idol’ last year, on which he competed at the age of 15 and went on to be a Top 5 finalist.

Triston’s mom, Hattie Sullivan, shared the baby news with fans on social media.

Triston and his baby mama…

“Everybody my grand baby has made her grand entrance … weighing a solid 6 lbs and 6 ounces Brenley Lichelle Harper has now arrived on the scene and she ain’t here to play,” Hattie wrote on Facebook.

While baby Brenley arrived June 23, according to Paris’s Amazon baby registry, she was not due to arrive until July 26.

As The Ashley reported in November, Triston shared on Facebook that he had tied the knot with Paris and just days later, the teenage husband and wife announced that they were expecting a child together.

Triston’s mom later claimed on Facebook that Triston didn’t get married because he got his girlfriend pregnant, insisting that the teens had “been married for a while now.”

“They just posted [the news],” Hattie claimed. “She did not get pregnant until after they were married.”

Triston auditioned for the show by performing a cover a Jason Isbell’s “Cover Me Up” before sharing with judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie that he had grown up in a small town and “been through a lot in life.”

In a video segment that aired on the show, the McIntosh Alabama, native revealed that he got into performing music because his “mama wanted us to be something.”

He also shared in the video some of the struggles he and his family had endured during his childhood.

“By the age of 11, my mom was with my stepdad,” he recalled. “He was getting very abusive. We had to leave McIntosh and then everything went sideways.”

Triston went on to reveal that by the age of 12, he and his mom were homeless and “sleeping on the sidewalk.” He said on the show that he was happy to have the opportunity to share his story with millions of viewers.

          1. Karol, please give it a rest, for your own mental health.

Also, you’re too salty to bite.

        1. @mamber ~ ICAM. 🎯💯
like, krude klown karol 🤡 and her abrasive, trashy 🗑️ comments should’ve been banned months ago.
(cue one of her oh-so-eloquent replies in 3,2,1…)

  1. God bless them now and forever. I don’t know who they are, but I hope things go well for them. We had our daughter when I was just 18. Sure,I am in another country with social safety for all parents, free schools, no real drug problems etc but still – things can go very well for young parents. Let’s hope that goes for this family.

  2. The photo and caption at the top would be amusing, if this wasn’t actually so sad. Triston had a huge opportunity to break the cycle, but he chose to get married and have a baby before he is legally old enough to drink, gamble, smoke, or vote instead.

Triston’s mother is clearly afraid that her meal ticket on the gravy train is about to end, hence her “they’ve been married for a while, THEN she got pregnant” comment….ma’am, that truly doesn’t make the situation any better. Seventeen year olds should be worried about proms and football games, not getting married and having babies.

    1. You know full well what that photo is actually about!!! But @theashley is trying to make it out to be something else….its truly pathetic!!

And as far as his mom is concerned wtf do you know about it? Are you acquainted with her?

Look, as long as THE KID (meaning Brenley) is happy, healthy and well taken care of then wtf else matters? Seriously, who tf cares how old the parents are?

      1. It matters how old the parents are because 17 year olds aren’t even done growing up. Their frontal lobes aren’t fully formed. They are not experienced enough to care for a whole, brand new human being WELL. They might keep it alive but that child will be very messed up due to mistakes the parents don’t even realize they’re making because they themselves are KIDS.

        1. @karol ~ relax, sweetie. you sound a bit…overly invested. 🙄 wouldn’t want your poor little brain to explode 🧠🤯 from over-exertion, now would we?! 🤭🤣😹
anyway, if you were able to read and comprehend, @jenn was very clearly NOT calling the baby a mistake, but rather saying these kids had made (and most likely will make) mistake(s).

          1. hmm, looks like krude klown karol’s 🤡 comment was removed as i was typing mine. good. quite frankly, she should be banned altogether. 👎🏻🙅
anyway, the sentiment of my comment stands. 🤷🏼‍♀️

          2. All kids make “mistakes” but if they’re not our kids then why tf does it matter?

      2. Are you acquainted with Triston and his mom? You sure are going out of your way to defend this teen pregnancy.

          1. Because MOST TEENS AREN’T MARRIED KAROL.
Both of my grandparents were married off and having babies this young. It’s not cute. Those are real children they are raising that will become real adults. They deserve to have people who are ready AND able to care for them in a non-chaotic environment. I’m watching the aftermath of this play out in real time in my own life. Everyone is a productive member of society, fed and housed and cared for…and they all have varying issues that they probably needed a lot of therapy from that they didn’t get. I hope things are different for these two, but there’s a reason why society now knows better and we encourage kids to do better!
Grandma made an announcement publicly and people are allowed to react to that.

  3. America is so fucked up that anyone can even pretend that this is anything beyond a tragedy. Kids shouldn’t be getting married to other kids and having babies. JFC.

  4. I wish this couple the best but I feel very sad for them. My parents were 19 when I was born. They stayed married for 41 years until my Mom passed away. They were friends until the end, don’t get me wrong. But babies shouldn’t have babies. Thank God for my grandparents! I hope this couple has/may develop a strong support system – they will need it!

  5. Yes. That’s actually true. My mom moved away from him before I was born. Lol. Not once did it ever bother me. You can’t miss someone you don’t know. Yet again, you prove you’re nuts. You’re going for my throat immediately. You’re projecting and it’s quite obvious. You’re not understanding. You can’t say anything that will beat me down. My step-dad abused me like that and said my “real family didn’t want me.” So. You’re a little late to that party. Carry on…

  6. Wow. You’re nuts. You literally just gave an opinion about Ryan and Mack’s situation. I can say what i want. I’ve noticed that you’re just generally abrasive to a lot of people on here. You just said you don’t care about Ryan. Then you contradicted your statement by saying, “the only thing I care about.” You’re not going to win this. Just give up. You’re blaming a victim for the things that happened to her. Mack is not in any way responsible for Ryan’s abuse.

    1. She wouldn’t have had to deal with Ryan’s crap I’d she had walked (or ran away) years ago…and neither would the kids, who the ONLY important elements to this equation.

And I think it’s HILARIOUS that you think I care about you…because I DONT…and never will…I can see why your dad wanted nothing to do with you…you’re an embarrassment to EVERYONE

    2. Oh don’t engage. Karol is nothing but another keyboard warrior Karen troll trying to instigate shit. They should have been banned ages ago.

  7. Yeah, because it’s so uncommon for teens who have babies to struggle in an awful situation. This is a gossip website. People literally come on here to give opinions. Is Amber’s situation your situation? Is Ryan Edward’s your situation. I’m guessing not, but you probably still talk shit. GTFOH with your shit. Why don’t you just stop coming here if it bothers you so much when people to say things.

    1. Why don’t you stop calling a situation “terrible” when you know NOTHING about it. Just because your situation left a lot to be desired doesn’t mean that this child is the same way…so butt the fuck out

FYI, no Amber and Ryan’s situations aren’t mine…that’s why I don’t care about that either…the only thing I care about in Ryan’s case is the fact that nobody seems to want to pass along any of the blame onto Mack when Ryan AND MACK have done wrong…yes Ryan did more wrong BUT Mack married knowing his past, knowing he was still a druggy and knowing that he was unpredictable

As long as the kid(s) in these situations get taken care of I don’t give a flying fuck what else goes on

      1. I dont…its not my life…its theirs and as long as everyone (especially the child) is happy and healthy then it’s all good

  8. Everything about this is terrible. My mom had me at 17. Single mom. Thank God we lived with my grandma and great grandma to help. All of my mom’s 3 sisters were teen moms. Some girls have been able to be successful. But that is an extremely small amount. Being married at 17 is also a terrible idea. The girl is still in braces. I have a 17 year old daughter and I’d never wish this upon her
