Barbara Evans— the often-quoted mother of Teen Mom star Jenelle Evans— has suffered a stroke.
TMZ broke the news— and The Ashley can confirm— that Barb was hospitalized last week in medical crisis. The Ashley’s sources tell her the medical emergency happened around Wednesday in North Carolina, and that Barb was in bad shape for a bit. (The Sun reports that Barbara had her stroke on Friday but that is incorrect.)
“Jace and [her other daughter] Ashleigh were by her side while she was hospitalized, and after she had improved enough, she was sent home. She will still require some physical therapy and things like that, but she is doing OK now. She’s not back to normal yet, though,” the source tells The Ashley. “Jace has been taking care of her.”
TMZ reports that Jenelle flew back to North Carolina to “see her mother and be with family,” but, The Ashley’s source tells her that Jenelle had already planned to go back to her home state even before Barb’s health crisis.
In addition, the source stated that Jenelle wasn’t allowed on Barb’s property in the past.
“There was a no trespassing order type thing against Jenelle and [her ex-husband] David [Eason] that forbid them from going to Barbara’s house, so it’s unlikely she’s going to ‘see her mother’ like [TMZ] is reporting,” the source said. “That order was from back when Jenelle and David were still together and were harassing Barbara by calling her constantly and stuff.”
The source is unclear if the order is still in place but the source says that “Barbara does not want Jenelle over there.”
Jenelle and her mom have been at odds for months, particularly since August, when Jace went back to living with Barbara in North Carolina.
“As of right now, Barbara’s stroke will not change the living situation,” the source confirmed. “Jace is still going to continue to live with her.”
UPDATE! Farrah Abraham decided to weigh in on the story, bashing Barbara over her health crisis in a post to Instagram Stories. (As The Ashley recently told you, Farrah and Jenelle are back to battling online after a few months of truce.)
Farrah reposted a screenshot of the TMZ story, along with a message for Barb.
“Was it my Farrah Roast that did it?” she wrote. “Let’s ask if Babs horrible mothering and grandma habits played a part?? Health is wealth people– put mental health #1 unlike the Evans family.”

I didn’t head back to the comments and I missed all this crazy? Ashleigh Evans or Ashleigh Wilson is not a social worker in North Carolina. This reminds me of the time that Jenelle claimed she was going to “Save Lives” because she was planning on becoming a medical assistant, but then couldn’t get certified because of her criminal history. The delusion runs strong in this family.

You don’t know me and my profession I go above and beyond for many people of all walks of life, including my own family just because I am a social worker and I have an excellent job. I went to school and I graduated. I was hired a job a profession. Before I was laid off from working in at hospital, I was a mental health coordinator case manager. I obtained my social work job whenI graduated. I am very lucky.. being a smart woman I knew our healthcare system was going to collapse, so I knew I had to make a change and apply my knowledge with health and human services and social work in which I did graduate with a degree. I’m very blessed to have such a great paying job working with people every day to give them a better quality of life. As I said in my previous comments, I have two bachelors degrees. I graduated my associates in my early 20s and got my bachelor degree in my late 20s and then just graduated last year with a second bachelors degree in another field because it’s useful for my career advancement, people do that all the time. I’m not gonna keep changing my answer each time you comment. I have a bachelors degree in a college education it’s going to be the same answer each time you can’t twist around what I’m sayin. So why am I reiterating what I’ve said? Are we going to keep trying to manipulate the comments ? Or go find something else that’s more productive and fulfilling in your life.?

Regarding the comments, I wanted to share some perspective. I used to work in long-term care, as well, and I know that “social workers” in those settings or nursing homes don’t always need a formal social work degree—some are “grandfathered” in or trained on the job. Working as a social worker with foster children or in child protective services is very different from working in long-term care. Unfortunately, when people, including myself, hear “social worker,” they often automatically assume it’s the child-focused role that does require an actual bachelor degree in social work. That’s likely why you’ve been getting criticism (which doesn’t make it right).
If it were me, I wouldn’t have even responded to any of the comments, but since you already did—I’d clarify your role once, and then leave it alone rather than engaging and arguing with people who don’t know you or your family. You’ve already explained that you have two bachelor’s degrees (in health and human services??) and work with individuals with Alzheimer’s, mental disabilities, and veterans, which aligns more with a long-term care or nursing home setting— not children.

It would be an interesting show. There are plenty of grandparents through the Teen Mom and 16 & Pregnant shows who have either been heavily involved with, or have raised their grandchildren.

But then again, all three of her children are a mess (Collin, Ashleigh, Jenelle) though do hope that this will bring then together, to bury the hatchet, as Barb needs them right now.

I am a social worker so why are you gonna try to tell me what I do and do not do for work I am a social worker. I worked in the hospital for Jace was committed at. I almost got fired because of Jenelle a couple years back and I progressed in my career and mental health as a social worker. Where are you getting this information from? Do you know my employer? Do you know where I work? I have never done the bare minimum for my mother ever. I do above and beyond so watch what you say again. You were not there and you’re not here now with my mother either so you can’t comment on those things.

So glad she’s already been discharged & is well enough to be at home. Strokes are no joke & time is really of the essence for treatment. It’s always scary to see a parent be sick but somehow I feel like JE would make it all about her & try to use Babs’ health against her out of spite.
It took like 24 hours to treat mine.. it was 50,/50 that id survivr thr night ,but they ar t9 cancel all surgeries for the next dat because the only way to seave me was brain surgery followed with a craniotomy… um still bitter they put my skull back in
I have migraines & thought I was having a stroke & went to the ER for it. My mom has a history of brain aneurysms so the speed they worked at to treat me was insane. Luckily it ended up just being a nasty migraine & intracranial hypertension.
