Cory Wharton Gives an Update on Whether ‘Teen Mom: The Next Chapter’ is Cancelled: “It’s a Sad Day”

“…to keep from getting a regular job.”

Fans have continued to wonder if Teen Mom: The Next Chapter is officially cancelled, and, over the weekend, Cory Wharton discussed the topic on Snapchat, stating that he pretty much considers the very-long-in-the-tooth show to be dunzo at this point, given that the cast has not filmed or been contacted to film in over a year.

“Basically, it is cancelled at this point,” Cory continued. “It’s been about a year since we’ve filmed.”

“Cancelled!” Cory’s now-on-again girlfriend Taylor Selfridge chimed in.

Cory went on to say that a lot has happened since they last cheesed for the MTV cameras, including nearly a whole pregnancy for his other baby mama, Cheyenne Floyd, who is due to give birth to her third child soon.

Zach after realizing that there will probably no new MTV paychecks coming in to pay for this third kids’ diapers, etc.

Cory also noted that he has been dreading the day the show was over.

“I don’t know what to tell you guys; it’s a sad day over here,” he said. “It’s one of those things that you always talk about, like, the day that it ends. [You think], ‘How will I feel? What position will I be in?’

“I always thought that before ‘Teen Mom’ were to cancel, we would do one season that was like the send-off season,” Cory added. “Like, ‘OK, we got cleared for one season, this is the last season.’ And they could shoot it differently and give the fans a good feeling leaving the franchise.”

How the fans are feeling after watching this crap for 16 years…

Cory said he’s unhappy that the show was seemingly unceremoniously killed.

“It just abruptly ended,” he told fans. “Like, it didn’t get picked back up. I didn’t even watch last season, so I don’t know how the different families’ stories played out.”

“Um, you’re not the only one who didn’t watch last season, Cory. That’s the problem!”

Cory said that, when it comes to him and his duo of baby mamas, there’s plenty more story to be told. He then hinted that ‘Teen Mom’ may not be where his story will be told next.

“Don’t worry. I told you guys, good things are happening. Things are in talks,” Cory— who also stars on MTV’s The Challenge— said.

As The Ashley has previously reported, MTV recently cancelled several of its long-running reality shows including Catfish and Ridiculousness. Cory stated that the network is in the process of “switching it up.”

One could argue that ‘Teen Mom’ could have been called ‘Ridiculousness’ and it would have been entirely appropriate…

Catelynn Lowell recently discussed the topic of the show being cancelled as well. While on TikTok Live earlier this month, Catelynn stated that the cast hasn’t been told anything as of now. However, the network still has six months before they have to inform the cast if the show is officially done.

“They don’t have to give any of us ‘Teen Mom’ people an answer until, like, May,” Catelynn said. “May-something is when our contracts are coming up [for renewal].”

(As The Ashley has previously told you, the cast contracts generally extend for one calendar year after the last episode aired. The last episode of the show aired on May 22, 2025, so that date in 2026 would be the date the cast’s existing contracts would be up.)

“[The network] is obligated to give us an answer by that time, basically,” Catelynn said, adding that the cast would have to be informed if the show was, indeed, cancelled officially. “But we haven’t heard anything. We haven’t heard anything bad [about it being cancelled].”

“Tyler have your red thong ready to go in case we need to throw you back on OnlyFans if this show goes belly-up!”

She also discussed the many layoffs the network has had over the last year, but noted that two of the show’s highest executives are still employed, so that could indicate that MTV intends to bring ‘Teen Mom’ back in some form.

“But you never know,” she said. “Basically what [the network] is doing now is they’re going through every show and everything that they own with a fine-tooth comb and they’re figuring out what costs too much money to make and what doesn’t. What makes them the most [money], you know what I mean?”

That face you make when you realize the only employment you have is hooked to two MTV shows…

As of press time, The Ashley has not heard any official word that the show is officially cancelled.

  1. This show needs to end! They should have prepared for the ending of the show!!! I stopped watching when Ashley and Bar went wine tasting. It was so boring I actually questioned my life choices. Now I come here for updates

  2. They’re probably dropping all the 30-somethings and making a new show that focuses on their teen kids. “Growing Up MTV” or something like that. Bentley, Leah, the Girlses, and maybe Gannon will be their targeted cast. I think the only reason they’ve kept the Teen Mom train rolling as long as they have is because they were waiting for the next generation to age up.

    1. I feel like that show idea would capture absolutely 0 new viewers, certainly not a younger demographic of viewers

  3. Oh, Cory, just wait until you realize that MTV’s strange obsession with you will not transfer to any other show on any other network. Also, much to Cheyenne’s disbelief, Ryan Seacrest Productions is not interested in shopping “Keeping up with Cory and Cheyenne” to E!

  4. This grown man should not be on a tv show called teen mom. It’s time to move onto an adult job, you’ve got three kids! This is ridiculous honestly

  5. I hope they leave the kids (esp the older ones) alone. Remember how years ago Bentley didn’t appreciate everything around his life being discussed and Maci did it anyway?! These are teenagers at this point, prob on point of having their first crushes/loves, I don’t think they want every personal thing to be shown on a TV Show…unless if the show is hoping for one of the kids to knock up another teen and be “the next generation”? (I REALLY hope this doesn’t happen but with moms like Jenelle and Farrah you never know)

    1. LMAO at the hoping for one more season just to prove to Amber that she didn’t cause the show to get cancelled! Hell, I would *pay* people to watch it just to boost the show’s ratings if that happened as a way to show that evil witch how wrong she is.

  6. Cory said “I didn’t even watch last season, so I don’t know how the different families’ stories played out.”

That’s the problem Cory, we aren’t watching either!🤣

Cue Amber’s 3am tik tok’s manically laughing about how she got the show cancelled because she started it.🙄

Bye Teen Mom franchise as TJ says “Hope to see you never”.

  7. it’s not far off to assume it’s been cancelled especially with the direction mtv has been taken lately (like since when is the vma’s on cbs???) but since when did cory “mtv wh0re” warton, who’s not even a teen dad become a spokesperson for the franchise???

  8. ” I didn’t even watch last season…”
Yeah, you and America, dude. That’s why it’s on a hiatus. No one watches it.
Jesus Christ with these reality ppl stg.

Anyways, yeah they need a break in between seasons. They all need refreshed storylines as some of the kids are nearing 18 and high school graduations.
Although maybe that’s what they’re waiting for– kids turning 18 and most giving their parents a collective middle finger. That’s a ratings bonanza right there.
