‘Love Island USA’ Star Sean Reifel– Who Resigned From Police Force to Join Show– Breaks Silence After Being First Islander to Exit Villa in Season 8

“Hey, Bethlehem Police Department…is it too late to pull you for a chat?”

Sean Reifel, the Love Island USA star who made headlines earlier this month after it was revealed that he quit his job to appear on Season 8 of the Peacock reality series, is breaking his silence after being the first Islander eliminated from the Villa.

As fans of the dating series know, 29-year-old dad Sean was left single after the first recoupling of Season 8, resulting in him being sent home from Fiji at the conclusion of the June 7 episode.

On Friday, Sean took to Instagram to reflect on his short-lived ‘Love Island’ experience, telling fans, “I can’t thank you all enough for the love you showed me.”

“From all the videos to the funny a** pictures that became the background to my group chats,” he continued. “All of it was more than appreciated. ❤️”

Following Sean’s exit from the show, his sister Brice Marie revealed on TikTok that she and her family learned about Sean’s elimination from the Villa before viewers did. Despite the heads-up, Brice admitted that it was still tough to see her brother “being dumped” on TV.

“ … I still cried watching it,” she said. “It’s just hard to see him upset and it was hard to see everyone cry for him. You know, it just shows, like, how much of a genuine, kind person Sean is, that he was still able to get along with everyone in the Villa.

“ … I’m just so happy he got to have this experience,” Brice continued. “It was really good for him and I know that he is going to find love outside of the Villa.”

Sean’s sister went on to say that she doesn’t think ‘Love Island’ is “really catered” towards people like Sean– someone in his late twenties who is a dad and “very mature.” She also said that while she believes her brother formed some good friendships in the Villa, she wasn’t that surprised that he didn’t also find love.

“ … I have no doubt that he’ll find that in real life,” she added.

As The Ashley told you last week, Brice also spoke out after her brother was criticized by the mayor and police chief of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, for resigning from his job as a police officer in order to join the current season of ‘Love Island USA.’

Days after the Season 8 premiere, Mayor J. William Reynolds told ABC 27: WHTM that the police department “spent a lot of time” and “thousands of taxpayer dollars” to send Sean to the academy, and that his resignation had left a “vacancy in our department that is impossible to fill until next year.”

“I never thought I’d see the day in America where reality show participation wins out over being a police officer,” he added.

Meanwhile, Sean’s former boss, Police Chief Michelle Kott, told The Morning Call that she was “disappointed” in Sean’s actions, noting that the police department works “incredibly hard to try to recruit the best people we can to be part of the Bethlehem Police Department.” Chief Kott confirmed that Sean’s last day with the force was May 20– less than a year after he joined the department.

While Chief Kott also said that it would have been unlikely for Sean to be given a temporary leave of absence to appear on a TV show, Sean’s sister insisted in an Instagram comment that her brother’s ‘Love Island USA’ appearance “could have been a great opportunity for the mayor and police department to connect with the community, generate positive publicity for the town, and help improve perceptions of law enforcement.”

“Instead, they chose a response that will likely reinforce the stereotypes they should be working to change,” she continued.

In another comment, Brice argued that the whole situation could have been avoided if the Bethlehem Police Department had “allowed Sean to take unpaid leave and participate” in the dating series.

New episodes of ‘Love Island USA’ are currently airing daily (except Wednesdays) on Peacock.
